Yes, you can use dog brushes - what you want for "carding" would be slicker brushes - the larger size would be best and the flat ones better than curved. You'll need two - not as efficient as hand cards, however. You can also finger pick fiber, I did that for years before I got my first picker (A Meck mini). I am such a fan of your videos! this is the 3 one I have watched and I think they are the best ones I have seen for explaining what you are doing and also what not to do. Do you have any suggestions of how to buy second hand equipment as I am just starting out and want to try (and see if I like) before I break the bank? Right now I have a drop spindle on the way that I found on ebay and am going to move on from there.
So you don't pick the fiber when you comb it, but you do pick it before carding?

Do you think that a person could use dog brushes to pick or card fiber? Or are there other tools that aren't so expensive?
