the book and the movie both were absolutely beautiful for me... it's a really subtle thing,in my opinion everything was about that quote: "it's like being nostalgic about something that will never happen"

the music is so suggestive and the movie has something really unique and special.

This was a great movie. I really don't understand the negative comments about this film. It clearly was a love story so, i don't know why people kept "waiting for something to happen" Its not an action film. The acting all around was good and Sei Ashina was great. Just gazing into her eyes was amazing. Only thing i didnt like is when he went back and was confronted he didnt fight back. You travel that distance and you are armed with a gun.Shoot someone,go down fighting(he was French) never mind.

it had nice scenery .. or atleast the half of the movie i saw did. I had to turn it off. The editing style just putt me off .. I wasn't captivated by the story at all. Keira Knightley's American accent seemed to vanish at some parts too. The music was beautiful though, but i didn't like half of the movie i saw.

This isn't a bad film. Pitt was miscast, true, but he wasn't that bad either. He just didn't have the charisma yet (he didn't live up to that surname.)The producers must've thought that if Ryan Gosling became hot, Michael could also be hot. Not yet.

Try the novel by the same title by Antonio Baricco. Must have been translated into English. As far as I remember, it contains the full letter (but evidently in a 'girl to boy' version ;-) in full.

Wow, I'm totally shocked by all of the negative reviews for this movie. I've watched it twice now and at no point did I find it boring. I loved the soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Oh well, maybe it was just too subtle for most people. Sucks to be them.

No, it isn't suposed to look like or be a dream at all. I would say it portraies somehow lifes reality. Things that happen in peoples lives, however in many ways. And about the end, just as it says in this video info, i would also say that Hélène wrote that letter to him because she wanted to be every woman he may ever fall in love(infatuation ou wahtever) with! She wanted him to be happy.

The movie Silk that I was talking about him being in is Japanese, Chinese, and American all combined (the actors are from all three countries and they speak all three different languages in the movie)!!!! You should check out the trailer!<3 Thanks for you reply though...lol

I read the book and I think Hongo's character played a significant role. It was really sad and touching when I read the part of the village boy. Good book. I like Hongo's role. He's so cute.

The book was really short. The Village boy was like in two chapters, but it was still a significant part. Anwayz, Herve Joncour visits war torn Japan for the fourth time b/c he's so obsessed with the Japanese concubine. When he goes to the village, it is actually burned down and deserted but he encounters a village boy who leads him to some civilization. And that's where the concubine and her master is but something sad happens with the village boy. I don't want to give away any spoilers.
