and he dumped me and ended up with some piece of trash and i had to watch them go off together ... broke my heart as i was in love with miles on the show myself. harold gould was adorable but it was crappy to shove it in rose's face and hurt her. i would have made it to where rose gets married to miles instead of that hag nanette fabray
Besides, having Rose and Miles marry would not only have been predictable, but it would have changed the dynamic of the show, causing some people to cry that the marriage made GP “jump the shark”. Instead, they took a left turn and gave you a plot twist you didn’t see coming, and wouldn’t you rather be surprised than coddled with a predictable ending? No risk, no reward.

True, the dissolution of Rose and Miles’ relationship is a little unbelievable, considering how close they were on GG, but at least the writers delivered it well. The two episodes of GP dealing with their break-up are both funny and touching, and like someone else mentioned, having Rose single again probably would have produced interesting new storylines, had the show survived.
Miles is a typical example of a man. the show showed a very accurate description of a man. there'r so many times u hear stories of a man who dates a woman 4 a long time and suddenly he breaks up with her and then he's getting married to another woman whom he just knows for a short time. but one thing that's good is that they showed the reality of things: that miles does marry Fern becoz in real life that's what the man would do. Miles is not an asshole or anything, he's just being a MAN.

This was one of the worse decisions for storylines in Golden Palace. Despite the witness protection angle, which exposed Miles as a fraud, he would never have been this bad of a two-timer on Rose. I was never a fan of the witness protection angle for Miles in GG to begin with. Didn't fit with the character. A college professor would never be in a witness protection program. I think Rose and Miles should have gotten married on GP.
Poor Rose :( she didn't deserve that ending, Miles should of married her on the last episode! oh well she deserves someone better then miles, anyway R.I.P Bea Arthur and Estelle Luv you all, I love the golden girls and the golden palace is just a bonus!!!
It would be nice if Miles could be a little more apologetic. Obviously he's not going to be begging Rose to come back to him, but some amount of groveling seems necessary. He broke the poor woman's heart, he cheated on her, for a while he kept it from her, and then had the wedding with his new wife at her hotel, and he didn't even seem to acknowledge how hurtful all of it was. I've lost all respect for Miles.
I know the ending was supposed to be serious but seeing as how it was a cow themed wedding I think it would have been funny if we heard mooing as Rose looked through the window of the kitchen door. Probably would have spoiled the emotional moment though...
Miles acts like a totally different guy in these Golden Palace episodes. I agree with the person who commented that his actions are completely out of character.

Well, actually, some of the writers on "The Golden Palace" had worked on "The Golden Girls" before. The writer of this episode in particular, Marc Sotkin, had joined "The Golden Girls" as head writer in 1989.
