  • Can you cook them in a wild rice casserol?

  • @jarochlitz Wait...1 YEAR? umm...you must not take good care of them. The people I know with rats have lived to be 4 or 5, one 3.

  • Pet rats live about two-three years.

Most wild rats live about a year to a year and a half.

If you take good care of your pet rat, and it comes from a reputable breeder that tracks the genetic lines, they tend to live longer.

Mostly because true breeder breed rats for health and temperament, and not looks.

They're going to be ugly either way, lol.

Pet store inbreeding runs rampant and causes genetic illnesses to appear at about 1-2 years. The can, and often to die of them if not caught early.

  • RATS = VERMIN ffs

stupid egoistic so called "culture" in holding millions of pets instead of getting rid of poverty!

  • 3-5 years in captivity MY ASS.. this woman is misleading people

  • @SystemXpander i had a rat for 4 years 2-5 years is ok some rats get health problems and breeding can shorten life aswell sooooooooo yah she is right but i dont belive 7 years

  • She just wants to get her fat face on the internet. She doesn't have a clue what she's talking about. Take it from someone who has kept pet rats for 17 years. I think I am a bit more experienced then she. They live from a year and a half to 3 years on average. She claims to teach? God help her students. Some people just like to hear themselves talk.

  • @wheezer97 Its 3 monts, that owr biggest love Josephine Von Chanel went on the oder side of rainbow brige. She died in age of 5years and 5 monts. In age of 3, she had really bad accident with doors(both hands broken). She was 3 times under knife. longest operation took over 2,5 hours!!!!(try it with pet rat, and you have 99% chance she´ll stay on the table). But owr wild Josephine did woke up, and almost completly recoverd. But it shortcuted her live at least for year. So that fat lady was right

  • shes making it up pet rats live bout 2 yearsi have 2 albeno rats my rats are from a lab coz my dad works at astra zenica -one of the largest employers in brittan - so he brought them home with lol

  • The Rat Picture In The Backround Looks Like Its Chomping On Your Left Arm!

  • i know!

  • LOL

  • LOOOOOOOl

  • my hands sweat SO much when i touch little critters like mice, hamsters, rabbits and things of that nature lol

  • she's supposed to be an expert. shes talking a bunch of crap wild rats and mice are lucky if they make it be one year old. even in city areas. Mortality isnt only determinded by predators. and the average life span for rats in captivity is 2 1/2 to 3 years. thats the average.

  • male rats, although they have a grease to their fur, will sit still and be a lap rat after awhile,, female rats are always on the move, always searching but dryer and cleaner

  • "natures popcorn" lol.

people have to find a vet that deals with rats and buy th medacine for them or they will die at about two years as did mine, pictured in my profile . with good care they easiely live to 6 years or more.

FYI they don't mind being handled. put the back of you hand totheir face and let the knuckel hairs tough their nose.. do not put your finger tips to their face.. and they will try to eat your feet.. they can smell throughthe soap too

  • i have 2 rats at the moment both from the same little from my previous rats which 1 had to be put down at the age of 6 because of tumours

  • Yeah, I've had 16 rats in total. They're really great. Pity that they die quite soon though, mostly due to tumors :( I used to do everything together with my little friends. Watch TV, shower, have dinner, computer, shopping etc :) We've now got a kitten though :P Also lovely animals, if you got the right ones :x

  • aww I had great pet rat and she only lived about 2 and a half years but they are great pets and mine was so sweet and cute but htye poop alot but they're really sweet

  • Tumors :(

  • What got my rats =(

  • Expert Village sucks when it comes to information on rats. WILD rats only live around a year in the wild, whereas domesticated ones will live to be 2-3 years old.

  • expert village is neither

  • are the milk snakes your dirty hillibilly family?

  • i hate snakes wors animal ever

  • and they probably hate humans because how much we dont care about the environment / their home

  • To Seacean23: I care for ALL animals, regardless of what they are, rat, mouse, snake, if I must feed the snake rat/mouse, I will. That doesn't mean I don't like the rats/mice..

  • To RMary: Rats and mice are important to the ecosystem, it's a very complex matter, but can be summed up as this: if they disappear, so do we.

That, and the fact that urbanization+people not cleaning up after themselves leads to you having rodents that can be defined as a hazard.

  • what facts are out there that support rats need to be here in order for us to live?

  • To boogiedownbandit: I appreciate your comment since it lacks expletives. The reason we need rats is that they support entire ecosystems. They feed snakes, wolves (rodents account for much of their diet), predatory birds, so on and so forth. They are also responsible for keeping various plants under control, and also spread the seeds of many others. All this causes a chain reaction, the seeds from the rats, to the plants from the seeds, to the oxygen from the plants, and many other things.

  • if you neuter or spade your rats when they are young they will last much longer, they are smart and cuddlie, also clean and really fun to train, highly social and can learn to stay without caging them, they play hide an seek, chase you, chase me, and all sorts of fun games, I never cage my rats, they know where they live, and i change there set ups including ramps and everchanging configurations to stimulate there minds, they are spiritual beings as well. check out Indias myths of rats. cheers!

  • they live 1 year in the wild.

    and 3 years in captivity

  • i thought they lived like a year in the widl?!

i guess they are just a bit sneakier and dont get eaten that easily
