theres something I don't think many people are getting. I believe the entire animation, in its self, is a satire of how one views any opposing art.

The man with rainbows and flowers represents what a normal animator would view as there "acceptable, independant art".

The Angsty Man represents the next generation, the next "fad", that happens, an inevitablity. Rainbow Man built his life on his own view of art, and expected something that is ever changing, to make his entire life on.

The Rainbow man becomes a stepping for the Angsty Man's art, and eventually, Rainbow man is overshadowed by the next fad. The Rainbow Man now has two options: find a new job, and do art as a passion and side. Or, he can make his stand against new art he views as "bad", just as the angsty man viewed his the rainbow mans. The cycle of hatred and lack of understanding.

The Rainbow man picks the latter, sells his house, goes into poverty making a expensive looking plaque out of hatred.

In the end, they both fall victim, and they both lose. Why? Because they are both what is wrong with the art community, or any creative community. They refuse to accept times change, they refuse to accept one day they aren't going to be the public favorite, and will have to take a back seat.

The video isn't saying mainstream is terrible. The video isn't saying a paticular art style angsty or not, is bad. Its saying the cycle of blame, and intolerance, is what is bad.

I remember when I first saw this on ABS years ago. It speaks the truth across all forms of media and art. The big names and mainstream stuff always get in the way of the genuinely creative material.

I'm actually gonna use this vid in my upcoming English 200 paper where we have to write a rhetorical critique about a video of our choice that has a "message" of some sort. It is just too perfect.

In order to fully understand the symbolism in this cartoon, you have to have been a flash author on Newgrounds. And how frustrating it is to have flash that you have put a lot of effort into bashed intensely almost for no reason except for the flash doesn't have the same type of humor as Illwillpress.

And then to think about how much effort it takes to make a cartoon like illwillpress, it's almost hopeless for people on Newgrounds who aren't well known already to make a name for themselves.
