I had one of these Duo's!!! I had a PowerBook Duo 2300C. It was my first laptop I ever had. My parents bought it from one of my now tech friends who fixed it up back in 2004 as a christmas gift. I was in 5th grade at the time. It ran great, even with Mac OS 9, 100MHz G3, and 50MB of RAM. I loved it! He even gave the Duo Dock to go along with it. I wish I still had it :(
@SuperEvilSquid oh thouse computers from 2010 dident have 3d uhdmi screens and those usb's... only got an 2.13 GHz intel Core 2 Duo mine has got an 6.3 GHz intel Core 4 quad come on there so darn old says the kid from the future
@bradkal 6.3Ghz on a Core 2 Quad sounds pretty nice, what did you use to cool it off after overclocking? A water cooled system doesn't work on a 6.3GHz P4, but on a Core 2 Quad maybe.
@mrdeadguy1 you do know that without the PowerBook 100 Laptops could look very different Apple introduced the first proper laptop and set the building blocks for all laptops of the future
great idea. While laptops are portable, they are not as ergonomic as a desktop. The more modern fix would be to get a USB keyboard and mouse and elevate your laptop to eye level.
It was a lot more than just a "dock" - it had it's own internal hard drive, many extra ports, and even NuBus expansion slots (old Mac equivalent of PCI cards).
Too bad no other companies made something like this after Apple discontinued the Duos... It seems like the perfect solution for field technicians and marketing/sales people.
The best of the Duo line was the 2300c. Active-matrix display, trackpad, and it had a PowerPC processor! (I think it was a slower 603. It could have been a 601...)
Yup, plug it straight into a display. And plug it straight into a keyboard, and straight into a mouse, and straight into your network, and straight into your printer, and straight into your external drives, and--whoops, can't plug it into your expansion cards; no slots for those! And plug it into the power supply, and plug it into your external speakers. Whew! Thank you Apple, this is so much easier than just sliding it into a slot!
why didn't the idea last. A laptop that can dock to a desktop awesome

@intelcore2duo43 actually the PowerBook Duo you mentioned had a 100 MHz PowerPC 603 processor , not a PPC 750 "G3"

Wow, how dumb are apple?
So all i learnt was that a powerbook duo could get up in the middle of the night and go talk to computers, AND Fax machines?

MightyMaul 2 years ago 4
They do. If you buy a display, turn your MacBook on to desktop mode, and you can use your MacBook as a stationary computer.

Thats not the point. What he means is having a dock connector. Like Toshiba laptops have the port...

People have different scenses of humor, obiously you don't get it, if you go outside you'd get it.

Umm was that intended to be funny, I dont think 16gb of ram and a 16TB HDD and a quadcore processor is something to joke about.
