Style doesn't need to have anything to do with "grabbing attention". Weren't you listening to Richie? Having a personal style is all about being comfortable with yourself and being happy with the person you are, and not afraid of showing it.
if the point is to not grab attention... then wouldnt the most logical choice for your appearance be of one style that is the same as all the others to avoid being bothered by people? which draws yourself to the question of what is essence of up keeping your apperance if it has nothing to do with seeking attention?

Nonono - the point of style isn't to grab attention, but it isn't to hide from it either. It's got nothing to do with people thinking you're "cool" - it's just the way of presenting yourself that you feel expresses you best. Like, with your crew cut and light clothing you express yourself as a practical, no-nonsense person. Another person might wear bright, funky clothes to express themselves as a fun, outgoing person. Or whatever. It's about being MENTALLY comfortable with how you look.
i wish i had money to express myself through personal style but when you're an unemployed 16 year old with a struggling single mom it's not exactly easy even when you do find inexpensive stuff. GAHHHH
To me, a style is not about how your appearance... or how people look at you. It's about how you express yourself by speaking, writing and acting. It's not necessary to have money to show who you are. I think style is also a kind of attitude of how we look at the world and living.=] No matter it's positive or negative, it's just how we think.

When I first clicked play for this video, I had a feeling it would consist of useless information. Well I guess my first instinct was wrong. You bring up many good points when it comes to the fashion industry and the way society visualizes hollywood. I must admit it is difficult to see "style" and "fashion" as different things but you seem to have a very clear understanding of the differences. So your MAC collection is not fashionable, especially among the youtube makeup addicts? What about your smoky eyes and nude lips? You really need to take a serious look into your personal style as it seems to be very fashion oriented to me.

Wonderful person you are, seriously. You really made my day. People who look at me with my bright eyeshadows and my bright lipsticks and see me as a freak. On the other hand, I dress in black all the time, so people tend to call me an emo (emo meets neon colors, yey). I love every word you have said.
