  • my god robin.........what a shy nervous wreck...

  • simplemente enormes los COCTEAU TWINS..!!!

  • You don't need awards when you win hearts. There is no questioning the love and loyalty fans have for them. Their music won hearts and opened so many minds, changing fans forever.

  • Liz won the best female vocalist award in the NME awards 84/5.

They chose Ivo to celebrate this on the free giveaway single. she

was also nominated in the top 5 for best female vocalist at the 91

Brit Awards. Its strange they won an inspiration award cos apart

from Cranes and Lush i'm sure they didn't inspire most of the trash

    that came after them.

  • la simpleza y sencillez es de los grandes y genios !!! y cocteau twins es uno de ellos...

  • @aedificamus why do you say that?

  • It must have been very difficult for Liz to get up there with her former band mates, what a beautiful trio they make.

  • When Liz said that this is the first thing that CT has ever won... I was almost in tears since I started listening to them when they did their first record. Almost 30 years later and I'm still in love..........

  • aye, liz is a wee bonny lassie that she is.

  • This must be the most underrated band ever, this band is very relevant — somehow the lack of recognition makes them that much special.

  • I didn't recognize Liz, both because of her grey hair, and because I forgot how much taller Robin Guthrie is. He's often sitting down, or far on the other side of the stage in videos, and they're always sitting during interviews. She's a wee little thing.

  • aj aj aj...people are not fair... one of the best bands in the world and the first prize for all of the career!!!... well, they know that they are higher and better then all that grammy-pop-stuff.

  • love them!

  • ALL HAIL SCOTLAND !!

  • @emile235 aye

  • Ha ha i'm just glad to see my first oficial fan... Bro, don't you have anything else more important to do ? Ha hahaha...who is the looser here ? worry about everything i comment searching in toher videos my nickname and searching for my name and age and nacionaluty... Relax, just ask and and will send to you a picture with my autograph hahahaha...

  • i'm crying now...you are just so mean !!

  • Woow! we have a MACHO-MAN here...an scary one.

  • OK...only if you limit to upload the video and keep quiet about the other people's feelings... It would be a nice start to be a better person. Cheers

  • @KabbalahWestCoast i was just saying shes has all gray hair and looks older tan she is im not trying to be negative. whats the point of tryin to fight with people on youtube?

  • I would cut my arm and throw it to the ocean to see them back togheter on a tour just once more. Seriously... I could die happy then.

  • liz frazer looks so old for her age!!!!!!!!!!! shes only 47

  • @birinbirinbirin I agree with you, I didnt expect she would look that old lol

  • Still the most amazing and profound music after all these years...Their humility is touching and moving...but in common with all truly great artists they are not motivated by false accolades and peer reviews.... they are motivated by the desire to create gorgeous, wonderful sounds for their own sake. This is the only way.... I still miss their music, especially Liz's voice, but IMHO Robin can still cut it [especially the work with Harold Budd] and we have Simon at the helm of Bella Union!

  • ...Do these guys even know how good they are? Seriously? ...

  • Sadly, I feel that a huge part of LIz's reluctance to stand in front of an audience is because of her extreme weight gain. If you watch the previous performances she's done over the last several years, you'll notice that she wears outfits which cause her physique to become quite amorphous. Personally, I could give 3 shits if she was the Hindenburg or whatever the fuck. She has a gorgeous voice and besides that she stands alone as an artist. Fat or thin, Liz Fraser kicks arse in my estimation

  • Surprised that haven't been awarded and recognized publicly more. They will be remembered for their amazing music because it is so unique and outstanding, more and more as time goes on I think. So wonderful to see them together again but it seemed a little tense to me, hope they are well, Love to them all, I hope they can become friends again.

  • I have one question? they return?togueter? or just because the award? one of the best band! I love them!

  • Goodness me, modesty, actual genuine modesty, and from musicians who truly deserve the highest possible accolades.

We've all seen embarassing faux humility from the likes of U2. Chris Martin etc, I wonder how they feel in the shadow of the Cocteau Twins?

Mind you, I saw Robin Guthrie at ATP last weekend and he was pretty poor.

  • Liz Frazer is the best female artist I have ever heard and I know there is some stiff competition. Her vocal range is amazing. Timeless, cherished and precious she is

  • First award they ever won??? WOW. To think that beyonce alone, for example, has won god knows how many in comparison with these talented artists is really sickening.

  • Their music was not from this world... neither all the prizes it could have given to them...

  • for them to have only just won an award ,is a big joke but i dont care i have listened to them for 20 years ,there music has always been fantastic best band ever in my eyes .sublime

  • I wonder how many artists that were or are popular in the U.S. have been influenced by them. They should speak out. Is this really the only award they have recieved?

  • We all get older. As long as they are all healthy and happy that's all that matters. Their music is eternal.

  • liz fraser got old

  • @UsefulChamber ....So do you, as I do, as everyone does... what the fuck did you expect!!! We all are going to die, we all are getting older... MOOOOORON!!!

  • finally something...!!! They deserve more...it is too late for a commemorative grammy???

  • shame i missed that.. they are an awsome sound unit. hope for more IT COULD happen

  • Kafka never won the Nobel prize. Joyce and Borges never won the Nobel prize either. And the Cocteau Twins never won a price from the music industry. Some people don't need a prize: they bright on their own. Cocteau Twins is the best band for ever and ever. They somehow transformed the Rock into pure and cristaline water.

  • @caosmosis well done i can't top that comment

  • @caosmosis you have the best comment on youtube right now. i've been trying to find a description of the cocteau sound and i'm using yours from now on if you don't mind lol... or until i find one better ;)

  • Gawd bless them,. They changed my life and I will be forever grateful for that.

  • Will Heggie should have been up there with them. Superb bassist, essential part of the first two albums. Anyway, about time they got summat.

  • Will was only on Garlands and the EPs that came out before Head Over Heels, which was just Robin and Liz.

  • Point conceded. However, Will was part of the band so deserves credit for inspiration.

  • amazing that it's their first award for anything. they burst apart the remaining boundaries of form, function and style and took popular music to a level never heard or imagined before, influencing many present day musicians along the way. yes, even madonna is a huge fan. so i'd say winning an award for Inspiration is quite fitting.

  • Can you beleive that? The first Award the Cocteaus ever won. Think of all the uncreative oiks and fads who get awards galore.

Perhaps being one of John Peel's favourate bands is award enough - I remember he said something like "and if you didn't like that session (I Think it was "head over heals" 83-4) you must be dead" + Metallica asking them to support them 1995-6 showing cross genre kudos.

And I got to ask them 2 questions in 96 in an online interview.

    They do indeed deserve more

  • All I know is that untill very recently, industry "forces" were systematically banning Cocteau Twins material from YouTube.

It's an ULTIMATE THRILL to see them finally get proper recognition, regardless of this vile industrial negativity aimed at them.

Next on Q Awards: Diamanda Galás, damnit.

  • Sorry, sorrry LunaSeaSane sorry so sorry, I meant a thumbs up for your comment, it was a mistake. I clicked the wrong little hand. I absolutely agree on what you say; and of course, a big time Diamanda Galas fan here; she deserves to be recognized.

  • It's quite alright. I myself fell foul of that very same mishap.

Annoying, isn't it? Tell me about it...

Diamanda is very much recognized, including among her own community. Except what she has to say may come across as talking a little too much sense for the music industry's "taste".

  • Yes yes yes!

  • ...You confess?

  • Sheesh that seems so seedy and inappropriate for a group who have produced such perfect timeless music.

I have no doubt that their pure genius will be recognised in time.

  • Cocteau twins, STAND FORTH AND BE RECOGNISED!

  • I cant explain what they make me feel, i cant believe this is "the first thing they ever won", makes me sad, such a great musicians, sucha a great musicians...

  • *

I don't want anybody to know that they

are the best musicians in this universe.

    People are too impure

    for them and their music.

    Elizabeth souldn't touch that crap.

    .

  • I agree.

The 'Twins have "forever" (since Treasure) been my ultimate escape ~ to worlds only my subconscious psyche can fully comprehend ...

They are, and will always be a healing source of inspiration.

I could go on and on, thank you for posting this ...

  • we all love them - they are winners in our hearts!!!! They have given the world such great music.... Music that stirs the soul...

  • The first thing they've ever won...the first..thing..theyve ...ever won...its a travesty...

  • They deserve more than an award.

    They deserve Immortality......

  • They deserve more than a damn Q award.

Their music is magic. I'm not a mindless fan boy. I have many of their cd's & they are just that - magic.

  • WOW!!! they actually went! i love cocteaus!

  • They deserve for it long time ago. But nice to see CT together, again. Any1 else dream about their new project, even it's almost impossible ?

  • It's nothing short of ridiculous that this awesome band never won any major award before now. I'd guess it says more about the awards than anything else.

  • Exactly. Such an astonishing contribution to our musical lexicon, and barely recognised. Contemporary music awards are a cheap car park blowjob for the smarmy execs that through little merit other than being corporate shills and conformist robots, float to the surface of a shit-coloured ocean of mediocrity to claim their latest trophy in the corporate war against meaningful human music.

  • mas vale tarde que nunca...

    Liz parece abuelita jajaja

ojala se animen a hacer una gira por el mundo con esto

  • The woman is the lead singer, Elizabeth Fraser, and what a singer.

She is a shy lady, but check out that voice.

    Check it out.

  • It's about time they got some recognition. Who was that woman up there with them? Gwenyth Paltrow?

  • The woman who gives them the award is Stephanie Dosen.

(I think she is also Simon Girlfriend)

  • Thanks.

  • can you believe BELIEVE THIS.....robin is super funny..

  • liz look so old!!!

  • Finaly...i saw then back. Hope to hear them again. I've heard Liz will sing in the new Massive Attack album. So let's wait. For all the inspiration they brought to everyone, they deserve this prize

  • Evviva!!! ^_^

  • it's about time they've won something

  • Algo tarde el reconocimiento

  • Bless there cotton hearts - They still make no sense ...but sound so different - all gained so much weight though ..but where the f*ck is Liz Fraser's new album she has had long enough ..although Mary and Kala (Yann) are amazing. Q mag is so bias though as they did not even feature Liz in their female vocalist section ..Just the usual Patti Smith, Joni et al ..more respect for readers of Playboy than Q

  • lol, wonderful. Still as chatty as ever 8D

They may not have won many prizes but they won countless hearts and fans with their beautiful timeless music.

  • Liz is so sweet! :-)

    LOVE COCTEAU TWINS!

  • I'm so HAPPY to see them together. It's great!! Thanks for posting this.

  • oh my god, I only found out about this now. Great to see them back together on stage again. I will love them always.

  • Wow, this was a surprise to find in my late-night YouTube perusing. It's nice they're being acknowledged, & it was great to see them on stage together, after all this time, even for so brief (& seemingly a little bit awkward a moment) - but that brings back memories of earlier interviews & the like. Meanwhile, although I should know better, I found myself hoping that when it was his turn, Simon would conclude by announcing they've been working on some songs together for a reunion release.
