  • Go for the eyes boo!! oh shit wrong game

  • MASH... WINCHESTER!!!

  • "I shall tell you.. of such a tale.." Chills every time.

  • It is ironic looking from todays perspective that this game was at its time considered almost hack&slash. Tells you what kind of games were made back at that time. Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Fallout...

Icewind Dale had probably the best soundtrack I ever heard in any game. What it lacked in depth compared to BG for example it compensated with great music, atmosphere and story.

  • @retardinho Play the Elder Scrolls games then, you'll love the soundtracks. :)

  • icewind dale, baldur's gate, fallout, planescape torment... black isle thank you for my best gaming moments

  • Epic Game!!! One of my top 3 games of all time, which i'll always enjoy playing Icewind Dale. This intro rocks, thx fot the post=]

  • Jesus... what an amazing intro. Sometimes I think the current state of gaming isn't so bad, but then I remember cRPGs like this. This is when games were MADE. This is when they were made for true game enthusiasts and not some bunch of casual jock retards with brains like a sack of hammers and attention spans like that of a gerbil.

Set the flux capacitor for the late 90s, gaming today can't compare.

  • @theTerribleFamiliar Play SkyRim then, not all is lost in modern gaming. :)

  • @AutoPsychotic Yep - been playing... still can't touch the depth and interest of the infinity engine games for me. These were the height of video game roleplaying for me.

  • @theTerribleFamiliar Fair enough. For me it was the first two Fallout games.

  • @AutoPsychotic Yep - those were great stuff too. Not that Fallout 3 was bad, but it wasn't as good as the first 2. Sheesh I sound like a stodgy old codger... So far I'm liking Skyrim better than Oblivion, but I still had a better time with Morrowind. I should go back and play that again now. It probably isn't as amazing as I remember :)

  • @theTerribleFamiliar True. Keep in mind Fallout 3 wasn't the third Fallout game; there was Fallout Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel in between. Fallout 2 still remains my favorite of the series, though. Morrowind was fantastic for its time. Compared with current generation RPGs, though, it just isn't up to fluff. Better to preserve it in your memory how it was when you first experienced it.

  • my all time favorite

  • I NEED TO REPLAY THIS GAME! FUCKING EPIC WINNING!

  • Easily the most epic opening of ALL Black Isle games.Narration , music sound effects are superb and reach climax that sends shivers each time I watch it.

  • @djuraish Pretty big fan of Fallout 2's intro as well. :)

  • The first time I played Icewind Dale I wondered why there is no Drizzt XD

  • superb music epic gameplay - one of the best rpgs on the pc - love the books as well

  • is it Alfred Noyes that speaks here?

  • If anyone still has this game and wants to play it again, check out the mod, NPC Project by Kulyok. It adds 5 NPCs at your party, and it's one of the best written mods, including those in IWD2 and the Baldur's Gate series that I have ever played. Has content for not only IWD1, but HoW and Trials of the Luremaster expansions as well.

  • Best intro to a game. Ever.

  • I love atmosphere of this game ...

  • i never did get to play this is it multiplayer ?

    AND WHAT AN EPIC OPENING

  • @niceprince Yes, up to 6 people in multi.

  • i never did get to play this is it multiplayer ?

  • Masterpiece intro. It's about as good as Megatraveller's character generation sequence. Can't wait for a sequel.

  • dragon age sucks neverwinter nights is way way better

  • I like it.

  • cum bubble

  • @igotthatsnowmayn did you guys know that in some of the lines of code in a .ini file they a designer put a word anal cum bubble lmfao that was on bg2 i think

  • @sesqueda2 fallout 3 was a MASSIVE disapointment, with a dumb battle system.

  • this is indeed the best intro ever

  • forgotten realms is epic that intro is epic and the text in the book is written in thorass by the way

  • This is a great intro, the narrator makes you feel like he's about to tell you something epic as you both sit by the fire. The game itself? Way too much for fighting for me, I loved the world and the atmosphere though, I wanted more of those ala Baldur's Gate 2.

  • wasn't this narrated by the late great gygax?

  • @theliberator1 i dont know was it? gary gygax was the grandfather of Rpg d&d

  • @theliberator1 actually it was david ogden stiers best known for his role as maj. winchester on MASH.

  • My favorite blackisle opening of all their games.. it has to be the narrator who really made it so amazing.

  • can anyone tell me what game of 2008/2009/2010 is like Icewind Dale? I played the entire series some 9 years ago and since I haven't found anything like it. And I liked Icewind Dale better than Baldur's Gate because it had more fighting.

  • @vindicator2008 The only one that I can think up of is The Temple of Elemental Evil. You need to patch the heck out of it because it's pretty buggy. My favorite RPG of recent.

  • @vindicator2008

Try "Dragon Age: Origins" ...it's like a modern Baldur's Gate in 3d. And the soundtrack is awesome.

    watch?v=7WcBlj3hTck - (gameplay trailer)

    watch?v=jmwCNma6nSU - (sample track from DA:O)

  • @vindicator2008 dragon age

  • @vindicator2008 Get Dragon Age: Origins and its expansion. Just like old times, only not.

  • @ZandurOfBronte ya. unlike the classics the storyline is a joke.

  • @vindicator2008 hmm maybe neverwinter nights 1 . but i know another rpg -adventure game series which are way different but still have a bit common - you control party , choose classes and races - Might and Magic 1-8 .you may check them if you like RPGs . Might and Magic 7 is my favourite

  • @vindicator2008 eschalon books

  • @vindicator2008 Sky...Rim...?

  • @vindicator2008 did you try neverwinter nights 1 & 2 ?? :))

  • Icewind dale is without a doubt the greatest RPG EVER created! By itself it pretty much is average, but when you combine it with Heart of winter, holy shit, what a difference. When I first started playing IWD/HOW I went 20 hours straight without stopping, it was like video crack. Lord of the Rings has nothing on this game, neighter does Baldurs gate 1 or 2. The unlimited exp, the massive amount of items, the monsters, the evil scumbags, game is beyond epic.

  • To bad i have nvidia and widescreen. :( To much graphic glitches on nvdia cards like annoying black boxes .

  • why dont you use windowed mode

by the way Icewind dale games are designed for Nvidia cards so you may also check your graphic card drivers

  • Yeah i was happy when i heard that they make F3 but then big dissapointing .

  • An addendum to my prior comment

David Ogden Stiers narrated this intro. He was best known for his performance in M*A*S*H as the stuffy yet lovable Maj Winchester. I always enjoyed the fact that he continued great performance work in voice-acting, this instance specifically. Thanks again for the posting!

  • And also that annoying clock thingy in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

  • Best game opening ever, thanks for posting this Max!

  • Watching this intro again sends shivers down my spine. This game, along with shadows of Amn were masterpieces. I got so enthralled in the game and the story you just forget how long you've been playing for. And it wasnt like wow, where it was just a grindfest to lvl and get phat loots, the story is what drove the game, not fat loots and grinding. You played because you wanted to continue the story. Such an amazing game.

  • @ManuscriptRe SOOOOO TRUE, ughhhh goood shiverss

  • Lots of new games have good storylines, play Mass Effect or KotOR.

  • and Dragon Age: Origins too...

  • Well but they have primitive rpg system and are to easy.

  • an epic intro. plus, this game had a mind-blowing soundtrack by Jeremy Soule. too bad my copy get destroyed... :(

  • i just ordered this game along with its addons and icewind dale 2 and baldurs gates series for just 10€

im happy when it finally arrives, then i can play the masterpiece :D

  • Ach! Still one of my favorite games..

just hearing the intro brings back all sorts of memories/ emotions.

It's a shame that today's Wii-generation will never find anything quite like this ever again.

The ONLY thing that I preferred when comparing this to BG/BG2 was BG's storyline.

I remember when I first found out that "I" was the son of the God of murder and hatred. Blew. my. mind.

And when you find out that the phrophecies revolve around you FAILING to stop the others. Brilliant.

  • I played a loved BG 1 and 2 but I absolutely loved IWD. Epic story, sound, music and gameplay.

  • That was awsome. Where did this come from?

  • It's from an old game called Icewind Dale. It ran on the same engine as Baldur's Gate if that rings a bell. This game was a dungeon crawler where Baldur's Gate was a traditional RPG.

It's based off the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition ruleset. Here, you create six characters from scratch which equal up to your party and face the challenges in the game.

A remotely hard game and great for people that want a challenge. If you ever come across it you should pick up a copy.

  • Are Drizzt and the gang in it?

  • That would have been great but sadly, no. This takes place years before Drizzt if I'm not mistaken. The Baldur's Gate series has him, you can even kill him too which I find funny.

  • Oh that's a bumber

I know you can play as him and Entrei in Bulder's Gate Dark Aliance 2.

  • I remembered those. I had the first one on the console and you could play Drizzt in a survival bonus game.

Theses games were on the PC and I think I saw in one of your videos that you didn't own a Console, right? These games are great because they don't require so much to play.

You should check out my other video "Baldur's Gate II [Tiax rules, bad dog!]".

  • I like those games to nice action rpg great music, graphics, story .

  • Try the IWD NPCs mod by, if I'm getting the name correctly, someone who went by Kulyok. Adds a refreshingly normal, chatty party to Icewind Dale, 5 NPCs. One of the best mods I have ever had the pleasure of playing, and every single character was fantastic. The writing is amazing.

  • I never heard of that mod, I should check it out. hopefully I can find it.

  • Any chance anyone can post the IWD ending in english? Polish and french voice acting isn't quite the same.

  • Best video game intro ever

  • I loved the storyline of this game i wish i still had it!

  • I also like the irony involving um...which character is narrating the story. At the end I was like "WHAH?? Didn't see that coming..."

  • This was better than finding out Bruce Willis WAS dead.

  • Icewind Dale!!! WUhuuuuuuu!!!!!

Im playing part 2 right now!

  • ...Baldur's gate get's more praise, why? This intro alone goes to show you that IWD is so much better than that over rated POS BalDURRs gate.

  • Arguably, Baldur's Gate's story had some freedom to it and had some flexibility in terms of the "roleplaying" aspects in respects to traditional AD&D. Icewind Dale was more of a "tactical dungeon crawler". Not that I'm hating on it, I LOVE IWD and miss it so much, I love creating a whole party of 6 to travel the frozen north. (I'm waiting for it in the mail actually!). The story wasn't bad in IWD, but it pulled you by the nose the ENTIRE game. But hey, it's apples and oranges, I love both games.

  • Thank you for not being rabid. I will admit, I let this whole BG thing gone to my head, and I'll admit, it's not a bad game, it's just a little unfair that IWD get's picked on by people who wanted the same experience as BG.

IWD was more like a traditional RPG such as the goldbox games, and Wizardry...while BG was more on the lines of Japanese style RPGs, such as Final Fantasy, or Dragon Quest.

  • @rebirthangel ummm, no. BG is not at all like a JRPG(Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest), it is and always has been an rpg in the western tradition, in that choice matters, and NOT having a strictly linear storyline. How it relates to those games is beyond me, maybe in terms of production values...but to me, BG is like the epitome of western rpgs, theres a lot of choice, but theres also a very solid, enjoyable storyline, along with a very fun, pseudo turn based combat system.

  • IWD was way fun multiplayer. but your right. playing by yourself and being pulled along kinda sucked. BG ftw.

  • I always loved the music in the beginning of the intro,up till about the :50 mark

  • same here!! think thats why i always just see the beginning off the intro, always did so when i played it :P

  • Aahhhhhh... Icewind Dale

    Good stuff !!!

  • Nice!i must have this game :)

  • lol nvm =P i found it, and i will get it tomorrow =D yay

  • That's cool, have fun with it.

  • i miss this game, and im kinda mad a myself for never finishing it when i had it.

does any1 know were i can get this game, if possible?

  • no problem, just check Amazon. You can get a new copy for $15... I recommend getting the "Box set", which has Icewind Dale 1 + 2 + the Heart of Winter expansion for the first game. While you're at it, you should get the Baldurs Gate box set too if you dont have it yet. Some of the best gaming possible. I prefer these games over any xbox game, ect. My favorite game is "The Temple of Elemental Evil." Check that out too. Have fun!

  • Wasn't there a box set that came with all of the Infinity Engine games in one?

  • i did see that a while back on Amazon. it might have been an Interplay box set. But, it really doesnt matter much now as you can get new copies of Baldurs&IWD for cheap... Your vid made me want to do another run up the mountain!

  • this game was brilliant

  • I can't figure out how to do the cheats in the game

  • try this: Ctrl+space bar, which brings up a chat window. then type CLUAConsole:CreateItem(BAG04") Type exactly the way I have it, then hit Enter. You can enter different codes, like BAG02, ect. Find the item cheat list for more. I recently after all these years have only now been able to play Icewind dale and the Baldurs gate series. Wow - I just cant get enough. Im now playing Baldurs Gate 1 with the tutu mod!!! I dont evenplay my xbox anymore because in love these games so much...

  • Aye I bet. Welcome to the golden age of the PC. Back when games were made for the gamers and when our great father, Black Ilse still lived. Alas not more, but their spirit still live on. And hopefully a new golden age will come again. Would be a shame for all of those young ignorant children and youths to never have seen games like these.

  • there aren't really built in cheats

this game was created back in the olden days, when gamers were gamers, and didn't back away from a challenge

hand holding wasn't taken as something to be expected back in those legendary times, and if you wish to play games of that era, then you should LRN2PLY n00b

  • The way the tale is told, i'd love to see a whole movie made this way (: so beautiful.

It is a shame black isle is no more, and a shame that games like this are dissapearing :( im in constant need of things like this to fuel my immagination

    (excuse my english)

  • i hear ya, i love these games so much. however for me, im just now paying them for the 1st time ever. Ive been playing Baldurs Gaye 1 with the tutu mod which allows you to use BG2s interface. Simply brilliant mod. Once Im done this game Ill play Icewind Dale 1, then Baldurs Gate 2, and then Icewind Dale 2. Lots of great gaming ahead of me. Dont expect to use me xbox for a while... There are so many great mods for these games. The Baldurs Gate community is still very active after!

  • I personally think this is Jeremy Soule at his absolute best. The only other score he did which comes close is Total Annihilation.

Really though, a large portion of what makes this intro one of the best Ive ever seen is his score. I luckily got it on CD in the Icewind Dale Collection.

  • I think the art was probably the best in the set of games. The score is also the best, I'm surprised these people didn't go further out than the Icewind Dale series.

  • The art team they assembled for Icewind Dale was pretty unusual. Justin Sweet, Kevin Llewellyn, Jason Manley, among others; big names in the entertainment art field. The graphics weren't anything special by today's standards, but the game's visuals oozed quality.

  • LOVE this game!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank god for an english version, great upload Maximusmadrica.

  • No problem!

  • Icewind Dale's music is fantastic, i love this game.

  • Same here, a classic.

  • FINALLY!! AN ENGLISH VERSION!

Whoever posted this brilliant intro sequence deserves an internet award! hehe...

  • Haha thanks but I only did this for anyone that wanted this.

  • great post, big hugs and kisses for an english version instead of french or whatever crap language it was

  • thx for posting. It is indeed irritating 9french is the worst) to hear it other than Shakespeare's language. Some things are not meant to be translated. Learn english !

  • lol don't be mean but you're right, strange that no one posted the English version of this and so I just decided to do it.

    =]

  • Thanks for posting this! It was so irritating having all these spannish, polish or whatver versions on here but no english one (I found myself becoming quite the racist).

Any chance of u uploading the end movie?

  • I'll see ifI can, I haven't been playing and so I haven't unlocked the ending but I'll have it up once I beat it again.

  • I remember this game. It is good, but the intro is exceptional. Thanks for posting!!

  • Who's the guy, who's talking in the video, I will like to know who it is.

  • That's actor David Ogden Stiers, who you might remember as Winchester (the bald guy) from MASH

  • That's some nice info, I should place it on the discription.

    =]

  • Geez, it's finally time for an English version of this.

    Thanks a bunch!

  • No problem.

    =]

  • This RPG might just have been a dungeon crawler released mere months before bioware released the beast that is Baldurs Gate II.. But this intro is, even by today's standards, absolutely astounding!

  • I agree, a great game and it's just a dungeon crawler.

    =]

  • One of the best RPG's ever!

  • Yes!

  • Ah, I've been looking for this ever since I lost my copy of this game. Thanks for posting!

  • No problem.

    =]

  • I love this voice and intro

  • It's one of the best narrators in my opinion.
