I can't believe ppl are attacking the hell outta this poor guy. My opinion, as far as importance in metal history, the big four of metal is Black Sabbath, Judas Preist, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. Those aren't my favorite metal bands but they're definately the big four.
Destruction is the band that revolutionized thrash metal in my opinion despite being from Germany they basically influenced a lot of bands like Sodom and Kreator and possibly Exodus. Sodom and Kreator were more influenced since they are also bands from Germany but I think those bands could deffintly be in a top 10

Metal is metal, who cares what group it may or may not belong to. You listen and you like it or you don't. Simple as that. The original metal bands were all classified as rock in the 70's. The music industry comes up with all these stupid names for all the sheep out there to describe the groups product. Don't be a bloody sheep. Enjoy the music for what it is not what it's called.
No companies came up with genre names. Nobody's here to enjoy the music for what it's called, they're just arguing over it. I agree, it's not all that important, but in many cases it's better to give them proper names based on characteristics. 1. testament
2.exodus
3.metallica or anthrax
4.megadeth
slayer has no emotion and anthrax does and makes 100x better riffs than slayer, honestly i can make better riffs than slayer and im not so good, sepultura is not even that good in my opinion

@Ivan4131994 Everyone has your own opinion.I personally think that Sepultura is one of the best "extreme" metal bands ever.Schizofrenia and Beneath the Remains are fucking aweasome albums with: great riffs,excelent drums performance and sick guitar solos (that actually makes sense,differently of Slayer for example).Slayer has aweasome riffs too.Like for example Angel of Death,Rainning Blood and Dead Skin Mask.Overall, i think that the next Big 4 should be made with some extreme bands.You know...

@MagnumBullets47 you know what, you're right, it should be opinion, but the big four aren't about how awesome they are just that they were the ones that popularized the thrash genre, metallica and slayer aremost known, metallica and megadeth are known as big rivals to some fans (not me), anthrax was just more popular than exodus and testament so they were on there for that reason, this doesnt mean the are better, only more popular

To clarify: THE BIG FOUR DO NOT REPRESENT THE BEST, ONLY WHAT MADE THE GENRE POPULAR! We could compare our top four thrash bands all day, in the end it doesn't matter, the big four were an 80s thing, so Metallica did deserve their spot in the big four (at the time) The big four are a thing of the past, so stop waving around thrash metal bands that you feel are better because they aren't mainstream, I could name plenty of obscure bands: Razor, Heathen, Forbidden, Whiplash, Excel, it's not hard.

I don't like the concept of the big four anyway, so I'd be a little iffy if Exodus was part of it haha.

Metal is metal, who cares what group it may or may not belong to. You listen and you like it or you don't. Simple as that. The original metal bands were all classified as rock in the 70's. The music industry comes up with all these stupid names for all the sheep out there to describe the groups product. Don't be a bloody sheep. Enjoy the music for what it is not what it's called.

No companies came up with genre names. Nobody's here to enjoy the music for what it's called, they're just arguing over it. I agree, it's not all that important, but in many cases it's better to give them proper names based on characteristics. Would you rather everybody called a bunch of screamo bands grindcore when they aren't? Would you rather people called a rock band heavy metal? I know I wouldn't.
