You're 100% correct about the SlingBox. While it works, it's not exactly perfect, and I too "crave" that hardware solution that allows me to take the recording off my MBP.
Perhaps a video pass-through device into one of the small inexpensive HD cams SDHC with video in is what I need to look at.
hauppauge hd pvr is definitely the way to go in terms of HD quality recording.

I rec. my video games by hooking a DVD Recorder up to my 360 and then ripping what I recorded with a DVD Ripper..
Which is a pain. We need something easier. :(

Try an Archos 605 (or one of the newer ones) with the DVR Station

Hey Micheal can't you buy a Blackmagic Design Intensity for $199 that capture HDMI or component at 720p and 1080 or a Hauppauge HD PVR for $249.
