  • good god that was a slow needle sweep!

  • you can send me your cluster and i will send you mine howx that sound for good?

  • looks like a jetta. ew.

  • hi there

awesome stuff man- i managed to get the nice blue effect- but how did u get the pins to light up red???

  • arata chiar ft bine. daca nu te superi, nu`mi poti spune cum pot lua legatura cu tine sau cu cristian (d p forum)? m-ar tenta si pe mine sa-mi fac o astfel de modificare

  • Now it looks like a VW dash...

  • @09feb1992 it does look a bit VW-ish! The LEDs are either the wrong type or the light is not diffused correctly as there are a few bright parts. Looking at that dashboard, orange or red would suit it better. There is no point sticking new LEDs in if most of the car is another colour...

  • Hello,

    NIce result!

How do you get the blue effect on the BMW e36 tacho?

Did you removed the orange glasses inside or does the blue shine thru??

  • sherry - where ur headlight switch is under that is a screw, take that out, and pull the switch knob and it will just pop out, then go to ur cluster unit theres 2 star screws along the top take them out lower the steering wheel to the lowest put ur hand through where the headlight switch was and push the dials from the back. unlick the 3 clips and the back of the cluster unit then done just follow the steps iv made below :-)

  • off ebay then put um in and now the orange has gone they look the tits hope this works for u :-)

  • iv got it done in my 1999 e36 318is coupe if ur struggling still all i done was take the cluster out, take it apart, then take the dials off the clear plastic, get some nail varnish remover and some cotton wall balls and strip the glue of the back of the dials. bmw hhave put some orange in the glue so it will never shine through blue only brown. be careful not to get any nail varnish on the front of the dials or it will make it look tacky. put it all back together then i got some 501 led bulbs

  • @tazmad8

Hi - can you do this for my E36? I wil pay you? - Im in North London if u r in the uk?

  • @doyoulikechocolate

I would mate but to be honest the hardest bit is getting the unit out the rest is pretty straight forward, i will try and get a guide on how to take the cluster unit apart, once you got the unit apart all you need to do is get some long nose pliers and pop out the little stoppers with abit of gentle play they just pop out, take a picture of where the needles end up, get a fork and slide the fork under the needles and gently ease up, get a knife and ease the dials off the...

  • @tazmad8 - Thanks alot for the advice - really appreciate it and will try and get hold of this kit.

Looks awesome, nice job, hope i dont fuck it up!

  • clear plastic, get some nail varnish remover and some cotton wall balls and remove the glue from behind the dials then pop it all back together and screw the unit back up pop the 3 wires that go into the back of the unit back in pop the blue bulbs in the green bulb holders (the bulbs just pull out of the green holder) pop the cluster unit back in its gap and done :-)

  • That is fantastic mate!

I do have a question though..

I have a 1993 BMW 318is coupé and I have tried numerous times to succdessfully change the l.e.d's to 12v blue but everytime I do, it's just not bright enough.. I have bought LEDS from ebay, then later from Autobahn but none of them have been successful. They are just too weak and aren't shining bright at all. Where did you get your L.E.Ds from if I may ask?

Any information would be more than helpful.

    Thanks so much,

    Jesse...

  • @jaytaxz by the way you cant just change the bulbs for blue ones you have to take the sticker off that shows the readings of what the needles are pointing too and REMOVE THE ORANGE PAINT FROM THE BACK blue light will not shine through an orange filter

  • @prvt8pyle Thanks so much! This is great information! Do I have to pull the cluster apart to get to the 'orange paint'? This is probably why the blue is so dimmed.

  • @jaytaxz

2 T1O 501 W5W 5 SMD Blue LED Side Wedge Light Bulb Lamp

Type that into ebay you will need 2 packs as you need 3 bulbs there only £1.98 per pack these are the ones iv got in my car and as long as you remove the orange glue behind the dials they will be bright enough hope this helps

  • temme man how da hell didcha opened da dashboard i cant get it opened ??

  • @shery3331

You got 2 torx screws running along the top of the cluster one at each end you will feel them with your finger, unscrew them then get a small flat head screwdriver and gently bend the metal bits down abit once you done this you then want to unscrew the cross head screw thats under the headlight switch then pull the headlight unit out. pop your hand in the hole and push the cluster unit from behind. make sure your steering wheel is as low as possible..........

  • @shery3331

Once the unit is half out grab the flat head screwdriver and undo the 3 clips at the back of the cluster unit, there the ones that you push the bottom tab bit in and slide the slider up i used a screwdriver because iv got big fingers and i bite my nails but you may not need a screwdriver to push the bottom tab in then slide the whole cluster unit through the top bit of the steering wheel and done :-)
