You have to realize that things are always more complicated than they appear to be. In other words, there will always be new technology (that will help protect kids AND adults online such as blocking IP addresses, setting up passwords to share your account/online activity with ONLY certain people that you TRUST!) AT THE SAME TIME, online predators are ALSO SMART! And THEY will ALSO have new technologies that will help them hide online, create more "believable" fake identities... etc.

Talent Profile sites have now become more worrying than the general social networking sites, as so many young people have ease of registering to them, many of which are un-supervised online, ok accepting that happens is being a realist, however, because those youngsters are so keen to be noticed for Disney Channel and such like, they give across their personal information freely on profiles and in forums, believing they will get noticed! Finally - I also recommend anyone under 16 or so, seriously consider disabling embedding on each video you upload. This helps to make it harder for questionable websites to re-use your vids and thereby attract other potential stalkers (or weirdos) to your YT account.

The one point you skipped, basically means that parents should talk to kids (or kids should talk to parents!) about what they do online and what they think about it. It's a very good idea for parents to ask you (or you tell them!) about things like; who do you talk to online, what do you know about them, what sort of things do they talk about. That gives your parents the chance to help you identify people that maybe you should think twice about trusting.

The issue about people disguising their identity is not solved just by blocking them. The point about them disguising their identity is that they do so to win your trust so that you wouldn't even think of blocking them. It's worth emphasising, adults *do* use stolen video and images of kids to create YT and IM accounts pretending to be kids.

To give an example, I recently found out about a 40yo man who was pretending to be a 15yo. He had YT, MySpace and MSN accounts all set up with fake (stolen) photos. He spent nearly a year talking to ppl from age 9 right up to adults, none of them caught on. When I found out I had someone tell him that he could either close all his accounts and never come back, or he could explain his activities to the police.

there are many points to raise and this could go on for a long time. IT isnt as clear cut as it sometimes seems and dont put your entire trust in firewalls and passwords. Parents should be more aware of what they are getting for their kids, and kids should try and involve their parents more. I wouldnt leave my child unsupervised on the net cos type something in the wrong way and you get inappropriate stuff, some of it quite shocking.

I think its up to each person. Some kids (like yourself, "Crash") are very mature and responsible for their age and, if I was your parent, I would trust you implicitly. But there's other kids who, even in their mid and late teens, are so irresponsible and inmature that I feel would need to be policed. So, it depends on the kid. And, parents need to clue themselves in as to the ways of the internet as well. If they don't know much about it themselves, will be hard for them to relate.

You should be aware of the fact, that every standard internet user gets a new ip address each time he or she connects to the internet. So even if the current ip is blocked the next day or so he is able to reconnect because he has a new ip.

Second thing: people can pretend to be someone else and if someone wants to harm you, he or she could pretend to be a nice 12 year old girl who wants to meet you. And this person can get your trust very easy if you are not careful.
