  • How do you append materials, because I would like to take materials from other blender projects and use them in new ones, like if I made a nice wood texture for a desk a while back, I want to use it for a cabinet, how would I do that? Thanks in advance.

  • @Blendiv

Well, you'd pretty much have to do the same. You know when you click on append and you choose your file?

There's a menu once you click on the .blend file, and this menu lets you choose what you want to append, be it a texture, material, empty, whatever you want.

Just look for material and load it up.

You're welcome, in advance (hoping it'll work).

  • Thanks! But what if I were to want to append the animation of the pyramid as well? When I append the object, the animation changes when I scale or move the object. ):

  • @Wafflesmart

That, I must say, eludes me. I have never tried anything like that, but I imagine it's a similar process. Look up importing animations or something, if you haven't already.

  • THANK YOU!!! ive been trying to figure out how to do this all day lol

  • @capnchris03

    You're welcome!

  • Nevermind my other comment, i just experimented and it worked! lol idk why im saying this, but thanks!

  • @DarkEmilea

We all have wtf-izing moments with Blender, so don't feel discouraged!

  • D: it didnt work! it didnt do anything, and when i pushed shift-f... couldnt get to 1, Thescreen started flying everywhere! Seriously, i didnt know blender could do that!

  • @DarkEmilea It's Shift-f1, you know, shift, the key that makes capital letters, and f1, the key on top of the keyboard between esc and f2?

  • thanx buddy!

  • ha u think ur desktop is criwded u should see mine

  • Ah yeah... nowadays I have like 150 items on it... thinking 40 was a lot seems cute now, doesn't it?

  • lol

yeah u ever see a teachers desktop?

    they get even worse

  • lol funny this only works if the item is in the mesh in in the same project as the one ur working on and thats not posible of you wouldnt need to do this cous it would already be there lol what a crock IT dont work

  • Append

    (Transitive verb) ap·pend·ed, ap·pend·ing, ap·pends

    1. To fix to; attach.

Of course it's a verb. Now go back in time about 1 3/4 years and tell your old self this. (when the video was made). Although that would alter the space time continuum, you would move on to be a spelling teacher and completely abandon Blender.

  • Good for you!

  • thanx for the video helped me out

  • your vioce is soooo cool you sound like NIKO BELIC from GTA4 =)

  • Luckily, unlike Niko, I don't have some annoying Roman phoning me every time I do a tut, eh?

  • lol yes roman was sooo annoying in the expansion pack when he had to be kidnapped =)

  • lololol

  • bahahahha why are you siting in youre desk like that XD and "im on a killing spree" roflroflhahahah dudeee all youre tutorials make me laugh and there very helpdul too

  • AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAH!

  • thank u so much, finally i know how to do this shit...nicer than the pyramids of egypt

  • stupid software.. try Catia or Solid Edge much better (much harder I know :D)

  • Thing is... are they free and do they have a friendly and helpful community?

    Don't diss Blender, man.

  • Stupid guy, try to fix your cellphone before bullshiting...bad az

  • ...or how about Autodesk? Thing is, I can't fork over that kind of money to get all the tools I want that aren't included or good enough. Blender is just fine with me

  • Catia is one of the best now...better than autodesk :)

  • no, Autodesk isn't ONE OF the best, it IS THE best; professional video game-makers and pixar and the such use Autodesk's products and a mix of their own plugins to make what they do

  • What you're not seeing is after you choose the file that you want appended, choose "OBJECT" from the list that pops up. Then choose the file that you need and hit the RETURN key. Both meshes should now be on the same screen. Hope this helps.

  • Ty very much!

I cant use export nor import for odd reason and now i can use this! Really good, thanks alot =)

  • No problem!

  • I dosent work =( it says error not a library =,(

  • I think you spell blender like blanher or isitatmydeskweird or 'the cat tail whipped me in the eye' or bulendur, I think im a bit off feel free to correct me!

  • Nice tutorial mate! Is that you're real desk? nice 5/5

  • How come it doesn't work on me? I keep on appending but nothing happens..

  • ya every time I try to append something it never works!! Grrr, lol, Ya so atm iv gotta export as, say, a .3ds file and re-import it

  • How did you inflate the subsurfaced ball into a pyramid from 0:43-0:46?

  • Shift+E in Edit Mode, it's called CREASE. Pretty useful, but only for subsurf as far as I can tell.

  • What key do you use to merge vertices?

  • Well, either ALT+M or scale the vertices down to 0 and remove doubles by pressing W, remove doubles.

  • Selecting the vertices and pressing w>merge>4vertices>center seems a bit easier than scaling something down to a minute size and ordering a hit man to remove doubles and do god knows what with/to them.

  • I mean when you subsurfed one pyramid inserted it in the other and sized it to the borders

  • yes and how you did that pyramid

  • Aww, come on!! You just have to merge the top four vertices.

  • please insert a tutorial of what you did in the beggining

  • The subsurf?

  • doesnet work

  • hey, you do know that your objects always look like mercury (element) when you subsurf them. thants not a bad thing

  • I know... isn't it cool?!

  • yeah, THATS WHY I WANT THAT SETTING SO BADLY!!!!!!!!!

  • Question... How did you change the size of the mesh, and yet. Keep it within the boundries of the shape?

  • Uhm... if you could state the time at which I did that, I think it would be a lot easier.

Usually, I think that is callled Crease, you do it in SubSurf, Edit Mode, select all (or just the faces you want) and press Alt+S. However, if Alt+S is your TV Out shortcut key...

  • Excellent!

Thanks a lot for the tut on that, I've been wondering how this is done and so simple too!

    Thanks again mate!

  • No problem, dude!

  • Psst. It's "B-l-e-n-d-e-r" :)

  • Hum. Thought somebody might notice it. Good job kid!

Yea, unfortunately not too many people choose to say things like "you're wrong!" out loud without cursing the hell outta me.

  • One thing I seem to be having a problem with is not saving the files, but deleting them when I'm done. I have many projects I have saved, but now I want them deleted and don't know how. So, how do I delete the saved files when they are no longer needed? :o)

  • Well, if you use the Blender interface, just select the file(s) with RIGHT-CLICK and press X.

On the other hand, you can enter your hard-disk manually and SHIFT+Del them on the spot.

  • Great! I like your jelly wallpaper!

  • I think I can do a special on how-to.

    Want any?

  • Im still stumped on timeline and adding bloom O.o.

  • Well, just input the frames manually and add the bloom of your choice.

And always hit refresh if you're doing any changes in the 3D view or Rendering Settings.

  • "I" hot key in the timeline ;)
