I have this monitor for few years now (got it as replacement for my broken FP241W) and I it really sucks at viewing angles. I know its TN panel problem, but I was really disappointed after coming from FP241W (it had TFT panel, viewing angles great, but it gets hot as hell).
LOL ! thats the most stupid fucking thing i've ever seen as a con ! You could barely push it with ur hand let alone a cat or a dog would do that, unless ur pet is an elephant.
benq is shit never buy it. my monitor is buzzing like crazy and is annoying as hell and when i tried to ask customer support they send me to their site to fill out a form. the form doesnt have canada or the u.s as country options and my new lcd model want even on the list. i havent even had the damn thing 3 weeks. if you want a monitor dont cheap out on benq spend the extra few bucks and get something worth it.
Mine 24" Viewsonic, 1 USB port(dont need it because i got a USB HUB with 16 ports), no speakers, speaker and microphone input, Full HD 1080p for sure. bought for 220€
speakers are faulty my speakers work fine and don't be a picky reviewer, no one likes them, its a very very good monitor for its price and has served me very well.
dude this screen is a master of all master. When i saw your personal ''mac'' computer i started to puke and call you a faggot. and please go suck steve jobs balls in his grave faggot
i got this im seriously disappointing with the viewing angle when sitting in front of it i notice the colors change when slouching or sitting up to high. i dont care what viewing angle it says it has i notice some serious color changing when only moving slightly. try looking at a white screen and moving your head up and down. the stand is also a bit disappointing as you cant adjust the height only angle. the ports are great though
this review was horrible...first of all, no one listens to anything using monitor speakers (and those sounded broken, mine is fine)...the presets are actually meant for viewing those things that they say....like GAMES and MOVIES...play a game with the GAME setting and it is good, same with movies....and viewing angles? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU, who sits at that angle and watches shit on their monitor...that's not even realistic. the monitor has viewing angles of H-170, V-160,more than enough. FAIL
this guy is full of shit. I have this monitor and it puts out a great picture; movies are a bit dark but the media player can fix that. I use a set of Logiteh speakers. Who the fuck wants to here anything just from a monitor anyway? My son tilts it forward; I till it back. It's whatever one prefers really.
Whatever you do don't by a LG Monitor. They only last a couple of years and then you gotta go out and buy a BenQ
@Starpass He just has standards, standards this monitor clearly doesn't meet. I'm the same. I spend a lot of time in front of my computer, so I want a good experience while I do it. I also use my systems for creating graphics where a good monitor is important. This guy does too, only he does video work, which is just as important to have a good monitor for. It's all personal choice and requirements. I wouldn't spend less than £400 on a monitor, and I don't, because I need more than most.
Personally I prefer the person reviewing to point out all the bad things, cuz its very easy to find the things people will like on the manufactures website. Thanks for the review m8 :)
SD Card on monitors ROFLMAO ;)))) get an LED TV seriously. So u bought a cheap LCD Tft monitor if its faulty send it back, if u dont like it well u get what u pay for.
Ik it suck buying crap electronics :D im gonna buy Benq 24" LED monitor :p old lcd's suck balls.
Haha, who the freckle watches it from that angle? And the only reason it looks pix-elated is because your not using a HDMI cable. Its an awesome monitor for consoles and what not
Also, @ descendency, an LEDLCD monitor is a LCD monitor with a LED backlight. A LED monitor implies an AMOLED monitor (like the ones on all the fancy samsung phones). I don't think that this one has a LED backlight (not specified on the box)
Those speakers are faulty.... Of course the viewing angles are going to bad as it's using a TN panel, and who looks at their screen from the side anyway? An SD card slot is also asking too much considering how cheap this screen is to buy (most more expensive monitors don't even have SD card slots). Anyway i'm thinking about purchasing this monitor purely because it has VGA, DVI, HDMI ports along with audio in/out ports (great for hooking up consoles and external speakers).
The speakers are crap. I've got a 24' Sony Bravia that has an in built bluray player and actually can support up to 1920x1200 with my mac mini. If I can find the model number I'll show you it. You may be interested.
Wow what a mixed up Review of this Monitor Bad Lighting makes for Bad capture . I watched this in both low Res and 720 p (HD) . I suggest next time you do a Review setup your Filming environment better before you complain about certain aspects of a product. I also have this monitor and for Price vs Features you were comparing to a DELL 30 seriously.......I think you may have got a faulty 1 as i have this Product and its is superb ..........You contradict yourself throughout........
I have just bought this monitor. Thanks for the review, but mine seems fine, so far! I have separate speakers, as in my opinion they far far superior (Logitech) So in general I happy with the monitor, good value for the money, thus far.
Why? If you are going to be listening to music you would be dumb to not buy proper speakers anyways, and gamers would be using headsets. For a $250 monitor why is that a dealbreaker?
@HDaviator I'm have a pair of speakers and a subwoofer so I would never use the built in speakers in any monitor. The reason it's a dealbreaker for me is cus I'm pedantic and I wouldn't want a monitor with speakers so poor built in to it.
@Flacktub 2ms-5ms..... becareful of input lag.. i just new about it today... and it has nothing to do with response time or hertz... so read reviews carefully
How is the image quality using the HDMI and VGA connections? I've seen monitors that look fine when using DVI but are horrible when using any other connection (ASUS PW201).
How about the image quality while watching a video? Any screen tearing? Any gradient banding?
How easy is it to switch input modes? Does it skip unused connections?
Is there an audio out connection other than the headphone jack?
To be more accurate, people really should use the term LED backlit vs. CCFL backlit (CCFL = Cold cathode fluorescent lamps). Both types use LCD screens, the only difference is the back lighting.
Would you recommend this monitor for pc gaming, ps3 gaming and watching blu-rays? I just watch REALLY good blu-rays such as Avatar, Toy Story 3 and so on. Please give me your opinion on that :-) I love that it have 2 hdmi ports so i can switch between the ps3 and pc whenever i want to.
btw LED stands for light-emitting diode which is the type of back lighting some of the modern LCDs use
the monitor you're reviewing uses CFL "compact fluorescent lamp"
so LCD is the type of the panel (like plasma, OLED) while LED and CFL are the back lighting technologies that they put behind the panel to display the image. cause LCD panels are incapable of producing light (unlike OLED and plasma)
Can anyone give me a good speaker system for this monitor and where is it plugged in. Needed a new speaker system because this one is rubbiish and ruins the feel of ps3 gaming.
then shoot the dog or the cat ffs, what are you doin letting ya pets near ya pc.i dont even let me kids near my pc,let alone a scabby cat or a mutt lol.good vid though.
hey man, nice review just 4 mnths late, I use this monitor for my PS3 and Its ok, Is it hard to calibrate the colour for how you want it? I usually play COD and FIFA and that's about it, and there connected to my Logitech X-540's and sometimes I watch the occasional Bluray, one more question, you now how theres the three plugs for the audio jacks, does this mean, it has a 5.1 sound card? thanks.
90% sure im gunna get this, but there is a samsung P2450hd which looks pretty good for a little less money. What do you suggest, because i cant decide between the two!
this monitor is definitely not for work, it is impossible to work with excel or read documents, my eyes start hurting, it is good for films or games, and i hate the glowing plastic of which it is made of, i will paint or glue up it because of sun from window.
I have 2 E2420HD and i can't recall any of the cons and take some time use the disc that follow and read about the screen maybe you will learn that YOU NEVER USE A BLOODY MAC with Benq screens dumbass
@kaushiksays are the speakers really as bad as in the review, or are yours better? im thinking of buying one soon.. (i dont really care bout the speakers, but still :P)
@slaughtered777 Yes they're crap. But I don't know any monitor which does. Im using Creative Gigaworks T20 for about 2.5 to 3 years they're awesome, crisp sound. It costed me 180AU$ then surely they must be cheaper now.
Why anyone would buy a monitor and use the shitty built in speakers is beyond me.
I have this BenQ and it is great for TV, DVD and bluray. Plus it had a native 16:9 aspect ratio as opposed to 16:10, which makes it great value for media.
Did you get the USB ports to work on the mac? If so, how?
It doesn't have the proper port on my macbook for it to connect (unless I buy the adaptor which hopefully works)
I just bought this and you are spot on, the auto modes are appalling! How can they release something with those modes? Also my screen doesn't rock as much as yours. It's quite sturdy.
1. LED panels are still LCD screens, they just use an LED light source instead of the traditional TFT.
2. Also Most (90%) of screens come with power (usually power for US/UK on top of aussie), and at least one VGA and DVI cable. (i say 90% as i am sure some screens might not, but i have never seen one).
3. Sam sung have a few monitors with the buttons on the is (like my SM 2333SW+). not a unique feature.
Why do you recommend not using the audio output :S Isn't that what you'd want to do because of how bad the speakers are? Connect other speakers to it because the built in ones are inusable? Is the outputed sound quality bad on an external set of speakers, I'm planning on connecting this monitor via hdmi to my xbox 360 so bad speaker output would be a dealbreaker
Dude i have a HP w2228h HP monitor i am a gamer, The game setting really helps if im playing games in high def looks really nice but when your doing other stuff like movies and work stuff it sucks, Nice vid man
Why is there no review of actual movie/gaming footage?

this monitor is definitely not for work, it is impossible to work with excel or read documents, my eyes start hurting, it is good for films or games, and i hate the glowing plastic of which it is made of, i will paint or glue up it because of sun from window.

kaushiksays 1 year ago
@kaushiksays are the speakers really as bad as in the review, or are yours better? im thinking of buying one soon.. (i dont really care bout the speakers, but still :P)
slaughtered777 1 year ago
@slaughtered777 Yes they're crap. But I don't know any monitor which does. Im using Creative Gigaworks T20 for about 2.5 to 3 years they're awesome, crisp sound. It costed me 180AU$ then surely they must be cheaper now.

I have dual 24" BenQ monitors hooked up to my main machine, Mac Pro (Nehalem 8-Core 2.26 GHz) and they are AMAZING Quality.

@Mister707Gamer
But I use external Bose speakers. The built in ones are choppy
Mister707Gamer 1 year ago
Why anyone would buy a monitor and use the shitty built in speakers is beyond me.
I have this BenQ and it is great for TV, DVD and bluray. Plus it had a native 16:9 aspect ratio as opposed to 16:10, which makes it great value for media.
I give it 7.5 out of 10.
Well worth the money

Did you get the USB ports to work on the mac? If so, how?
It doesn't have the proper port on my macbook for it to connect (unless I buy the adaptor which hopefully works)
I just bought this and you are spot on, the auto modes are appalling! How can they release something with those modes? Also my screen doesn't rock as much as yours. It's quite sturdy.
Keep it up man.
Spiceman333 1 year ago
don't know if it has been mentioned before, but:
3. Sam sung have a few monitors with the buttons on the is (like my SM 2333SW+). not a unique feature.

thank you mate!
Can get it at MSY for $249

WHY WOULD ANYONE SELL SPEAKERS LIKE THAT?!!?!?!? wtf!
usforlife01 1 year ago
speakers SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holy SH*T
sahaj376 1 year ago
Why do you recommend not using the audio output :S Isn't that what you'd want to do because of how bad the speakers are? Connect other speakers to it because the built in ones are inusable? Is the outputed sound quality bad on an external set of speakers, I'm planning on connecting this monitor via hdmi to my xbox 360 so bad speaker output would be a dealbreaker
