Sooo....given the fact that the most resource hogging game is being played conveniently on a mac, way back in 2007, I suppose its safe to assume that a mac book pro in 2011 would be even more game friendly!!!!!
@vyazz pretty much. I can play it on it's default settings on my stock 2010 macbook with an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card and an Intel core 2 duo processor (both of which are default on a current macbook)
Bootcamp. (if you already have windows ignore this: type bootcamp into the top right searchthing, follow instructions to install windows (atleast 32GB just for crysis). and then insert your OSX disc into your computer whilst in windows and install the drivers). you can use certain programs to make crysis run on OSX but they usually decrease performance and with crysis you want all the performance you can get (windows XP is fairly cheap now like $60) if you don't have windows.
@OutlawSouljah89 ha, alienware is for noobs. you can build your own laptop with the same specs for half the price. only people whose parents buy thier computers own alienwares.
@Roflofl129 Haha comes from a poor bitch who can't affort to buy one, When you buy a Alienware you get Quality and not all that plastic shit you get from a mac. sounds like you don't know shit about anything so shut up noob, end story.
@Roflofl129 lol xD you are a noob : D.. and no i am not going to explain what is special about alienware BESIDES the design. You go and you your freaking brain for once.. hahaha such a standard noob reaction it is xD
I'm about to get I7 940 at 4.2 GHZ and 4 GTX 480's in sli with 2560 * 1600 in future cause i'm a hard core gamer and i actually play crysis in delta which isn't difficult, but i get pwnt in CSS at expert.I currently own Q9550 2.88 GHZ and HD 5870.
@luissi1234 yeah, crysis looks crap without shadows, also i think put some motion blur on their too, and it will look pretty nice, what resolution do you think it will run on, i want 1280x720 or higher, also if you start customizing the config file you can get better frames per second
@samm565 i think u might wanna see first the resolution of your screen... but as i was saying i really think that u can get a nice game with shadows and shaders on high and the rest of specs on mid settings...
i've got one computer with a Nvidia 9400m and we know is not just "the ideal" card for playing this heavy game... So i tried it with all settings on low except "water, texture, shadows on mid, and shaders on high... and i got a NICE GAME... hahaha
@adolf512 intel is good, they have been using them for a while, the quad core i5 on the imac is pretty fast, and the 8 core intel xeon on the mac pro is fast
Haha thats sooo lame, shadows n shaders on low? why dont u just play it all on low, those setts. make a huge difference on the look of the game, especially the shaders one, i bet u can push some more the 8600m gt, if it isnt flawed (like the dell ones) then u can do some more performance n go up on the shaders or else..
@KJavier88 It heats up too much to the point that you can cook bacon(at least for me). That's why you do not put this laptop directly on your lap(and because of that, you do not call it a LAPtop, you call it a notebook).
You can buy those cooling mats/pads though to let you put a notebook on your lap
Speaking from experience, you will probably have to go with mostly medium, and a few selective high, settings without aa at anything above 1024 x 768 to achieve a consistent, acceptable frame rate. (But I was in dx10)
The only real hang up during the game was the final battle, which requiring a few settings adjustments. Prolonged play on a regular surface also sometimes crashes the game. Still, its runs pretty well considering that this is a true, portable laptop.
@mattbierner Well, if you look at this guy, he has Medium/high using the older version, with the 8600, remember, I will have 2 cards and the newer 600, that being 9600. What version of the pro do you have?
I know this because I have the exact computer you alluded too, but with 8gb custom ram. He is running at 1024x 768, I'm at 1280x 800.
Also, you can not run the cards in sli, not that it would even help much anyways. The purpose of the dual cards is to offer an adjustable battery life vs preformance setting.
think twice before getting a mac... a hacker hacked it in 4 seconds. there was a huge loophole in the security system.
vid editing and etc are prob better on a mac, but it pretty much depends on the software, like adobe has versions for both pc and macs.
gaming would go for pcs because the gfx cards and hardware are always one step ahead of macs. not to mention that the hardware is just way more expensive.
Nice. I wish I had one, I have the new 13" 2.53 Ghz 4 GB DDR3 one with the 9400m integrated. I think I'll just fix up my desktop PC to game. Macs are wayy faster for anything dealing with productivity though, due to OS X.
I was reading some of the earlier comments, i laugh when i read how people are arguing over what computer brand is better. I mean, macs are good for video editing, somewat for gaiming, but mainly for editing and other uses. When I want amazing gaming I build a PC rig, though i get trouble doing some other tasks on PC's. So it all depends on wat ur going for, why the fuck would you say shit about ppl that use either one. All that arguing is pretty funny to me
@Xxsk8r23xX well, lets say we both need to clean our dining room table. I have a nice rag, and you have a dress sock. A dress sock is going to work, but why would you use it for something its not designed for? I am agreeing with you, but its important to realize why people take so much time out of their day to respond to each other's opinions on something so seemingly pointless!
got mine in june...sick system im downloading the crysis demo now to see how it runs. if this guy gets 30 fps with mostly everything on high with only 256 megs of vram i wonder what i will get with my 9600 GT gpu with 512 vram.
I love how this is a big deal! Seriously? From my experience the Intel and Nvidia parts of a Macbook are very capable but the rest of the parts used are cheap. my macbook HD has busted twice, screen went out once, my CD drive warps, the keys wear on the screen, and the bezels around screen and keyboard break within 6 months of being fixed.
It also kinda makes me laugh that running crysis on XP on and Intel platform is a big deal, run it in OS X and I will bow down to you like a god.
The game isn't compatible with OS X. You act like its hard to boot up in XP and run the game. If they allowed it to run on OSX, it'd run just fine. It sounds like someone need to quit playing fetch with his laptop.
I use my laptop daily but take exceptional care of it. It's slid out of it's case, fallen and hit the table 3" below it a few times but that is it.... after having everything replaced it's probably all shit salvaged parts from other broken macbooks. it seriously gets so hot that it warps the CD drive >.>
The best part of my Mac experience is when it's in for repairs and I don't have to worry about if it feels like being a cheap asian piece of crap and exploding while I'm finishing my homework.
xbox you're a retard. You make PC users look bad. Thank God 'm switching to a Mac. Not only I look more professional In my college career, but its more dependable and reliable! Thanx for posting man! Btw this song comes from E.S. Posthumus Album Unearthed. Its amazing!
His CPU maybe a bit low but everythhing else is ok. Thats the low end mac you can get much higher specs. I'm sure if your broke ass could afford a Mac you'd be saying otherwise. Grow up fool!
Xbox360fanboyFTW why does it matter? Do you own any stocks for microsoft? If not it does not matter which one is winning. I own both so I don't play biases or take upon fangirl roles like you do. Just because you cant afford a mac doesn't mean you have to bitch and moan on youtube. Comment back after your balls have dropped.
The entry level ones which have different specs than the one in this video, are $1999. They are 15". You can also get a 17" model with an 8 hr. battery and 1/2 GB of GDDR3 SDRAM for $2799. It may sound too much, but you get what you pay for in the computer industry.
actually now all the aluminum macbooks are called macbook pros and are more powerful and all have 6-8 hour battery they all retain the same price as before, the 13 inch, $1200 the 15, $1700 and 17, $2500, $300 cheaper actually. there is also a white macbook which i think is the same to an extent, but is $1000 and the battery isn't nearly as good, 2-5 hours
wow dude your soo much better than everyone else because you threw away thousands for a gaming laptop, quit commenting negativly for your childish sence of 'pride'
Can u run a game like dawn of war 2 on the apple mac using bootcamp. i have the latest version of the macbook pro(2009) and i am desperate to know if u can play the game
no offence, though macbooks are awesome, i have an asus notebook, which has the nvidia geforce 9800gt , with same specs than the macbook, and it runs crysis waaay better, and also, it only costs $900...
its worth buying the asus g50vt for such an amazing performance.
yh but its like (and if you like cars ull get me) its like choosing between a monaro and a audi, u (or i mainly lol) would go for the audi becouse of the badge and quality, noone would go for the pc (monaro) after owning 1 becouse they feel cheap and like 2 things ramed together(vista and hp in my case) but macs were made for OSX so they go, dont kill me cuz its only my opinion ive had both and im switing bac to mac!
The video was posted in '07 and no, the Asus is very beatable. I mean, look at the whole picture. Cost of ownership v. initial cost in the store and how much do you know about buying a MacBook Pro? Pro tip: there's a way to knock off $301-401 easy without losing a thing and still buying from Apple.
that's great n all but ur running it at a low resolution and very low settings. the whole point of crysis is watching the amazing graphics on high or very high, not barely squeezing 25fps most of the time on low/medium.
I got a big question! can the new macbook 13" run crysis and modern games like this one?
the macbook 13" has 2.0GHz or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor ,SDRAM; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory, 250GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive.
I think it's possible, i've seen people playing GTA IV on that machine (on low resolution though). I'll try to dual boot it with windows 7, and try with far cry 2 to see how it's doing
anything else except bootcamp (especially parallel and vmware fusion) is too damn processor heavy by itself. to try and run a game on it is suicide for the macbook
the mac users dont buy a mac for its gaming capabilities, it's more for multimedia work and OS X. the gaming part of a mac is just an excuse to don't buy another computer for gaming only
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB Im not sure if i should install XP (32 bit) Vista (32 bit) or Vista (64 bit) I have all of them, i dont know which one to use on bootcamp for better gaming.
XP for gaming, but the best version of Vista is the 64. Unless you MUST have vista for your games, use XP it's much faster when it comes to gaming, and isnt bogged down as much as Shitsta
i also have the same problem unfortuanatly i the version of xp i have doesnt work with bootcamp so i guess its the vista 32 bit home edition... on the same laptop will the frame rate be slow? i was looking to play with decent settings in the 25-35 fps range... is this possible or should i put the money into getting a new copy of vista?
an average fps of 30 is not really good, but for the setting used, it's not bad, but for a higher average I would put all the settings at mid, I don't think 30fps is a really good game experience
actually believe it or not an xbox 360 game runs an average of between 30-35 FPS so actually 30 FPS on a mac laptop for crysis is pretty freakin impressive. i might have to get one of these for college =]
Well that's the previous version I have that one and it has a Back Light keyboard and yes it does have an 8600 Gt ad the new one has a 9400m and 9600Gt built in.
wtf is this... you let your woman drive your car aswell maybe?

LieutenantRice 2 years ago
The hardware supports SLI but not the nvidia drivers. This is true even in windows mode.
From nvidia support site: "Q: Does the Apple Macbook Pro (Late 2008) support NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI® technology?
A: No .... "
This applies to the current models as well. Furthermore, you can only run with the 9600 in Windows mode, no GPU switching.
The memory kits I have seen cost up to $1200, I got mine for less than half that. OWC has the memory for $465.99 as of right now.

His CPU maybe a bit low but everythhing else is ok. Thats the low end mac you can get much higher specs. I'm sure if your broke ass could afford a Mac you'd be saying otherwise. Grow up fool!

You're just upset that PC isnt going to last as long as macs
rmysterio80 2 years ago
really? so far pc is winning!
xbox360fanboyFTW 2 years ago
Xbox360fanboyFTW why does it matter? Do you own any stocks for microsoft? If not it does not matter which one is winning. I own both so I don't play biases or take upon fangirl roles like you do. Just because you cant afford a mac doesn't mean you have to bitch and moan on youtube. Comment back after your balls have dropped.

acw2097 2 years ago
btw, how much does one cost? $2000?
ax2ws 2 years ago 2
The entry level ones which have different specs than the one in this video, are $1999. They are 15". You can also get a 17" model with an 8 hr. battery and 1/2 GB of GDDR3 SDRAM for $2799. It may sound too much, but you get what you pay for in the computer industry.
21stCenGamer 2 years ago 2
actually now all the aluminum macbooks are called macbook pros and are more powerful and all have 6-8 hour battery they all retain the same price as before, the 13 inch, $1200 the 15, $1700 and 17, $2500, $300 cheaper actually. there is also a white macbook which i think is the same to an extent, but is $1000 and the battery isn't nearly as good, 2-5 hours

Thanks for the update.

one more question to all who may have the answer..
can you use a PS3 or 360 controller on Crysis...? and if so is it way better or worse of an experience..?
BDMACKtheENIGMA 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure you can with a 360 controller. Just get the "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows". You may need to use a program called Xpadder.
ax2ws 2 years ago
question what is better cuz im hearing split answers on this question... Windows Vista Home Premium vs Window XP Pro SP2...
for Gaming on the same type of MBP 2.4 15" 4GBRAM etc...

shiiiit, objects quality high, that's all that counts

I am going to get Crysis for my Mac as soon as I get 4 GB of RAM.
What songs are you using for this video? They are really, really amazing.
kstrehan 2 years ago
no offence, though macbooks are awesome, i have an asus notebook, which has the nvidia geforce 9800gt , with same specs than the macbook, and it runs crysis waaay better, and also, it only costs $900...
its worth buying the asus g50vt for such an amazing performance.
N1NJO3 2 years ago 4
yh but its like (and if you like cars ull get me) its like choosing between a monaro and a audi, u (or i mainly lol) would go for the audi becouse of the badge and quality, noone would go for the pc (monaro) after owning 1 becouse they feel cheap and like 2 things ramed together(vista and hp in my case) but macs were made for OSX so they go, dont kill me cuz its only my opinion ive had both and im switing bac to mac!
CompSupport4U 2 years ago
I understand ur point mate, and im not saying that Mac's suck, what i mean is that for the price and performance, the asus is unbeatable.
N1NJO3 2 years ago 4
The video was posted in '07 and no, the Asus is very beatable. I mean, look at the whole picture. Cost of ownership v. initial cost in the store and how much do you know about buying a MacBook Pro? Pro tip: there's a way to knock off $301-401 easy without losing a thing and still buying from Apple.
wraithofwonder 2 years ago
true i get what u mean, i got a hp for double the performance and half the price.
CompSupport4U 2 years ago
How many times have you reformatted your harddrive on that ASUS
Jessdog21 2 years ago
0 times, it hasn't given me any problems at all. Why the question?
N1NJO3 2 years ago
that's great n all but ur running it at a low resolution and very low settings. the whole point of crysis is watching the amazing graphics on high or very high, not barely squeezing 25fps most of the time on low/medium.

Macbook Pros with the GeForce 8600M GT have that UGLY video glitch where the video gets separated into horizontal sections......its subtle but nasty.
can be seen during the color clouds @ 30 seconds

I got a big question! can the new macbook 13" run crysis and modern games like this one?
the macbook 13" has 2.0GHz or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor ,SDRAM; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory, 250GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive.
Will it run? Please comment
N1NJO3 2 years ago
I think it's possible, i've seen people playing GTA IV on that machine (on low resolution though). I'll try to dual boot it with windows 7, and try with far cry 2 to see how it's doing

did you put it on macos, macos with parallels, macos with vmware, bottcamp xp or bootcamp vista?
crazyUTkid 2 years ago
it says in the description bootcamp.
drunkenbozo1994 2 years ago
anything else except bootcamp (especially parallel and vmware fusion) is too damn processor heavy by itself. to try and run a game on it is suicide for the macbook
invitationofchaos 2 years ago
1024x768...that's funny. you supposed to play at native resolution of your mac
1680x1050..but i guess your computer can't handle that.
Get a decent windows pc with decent hardware to game. Gaming is all about the GPU.
ASUS W90 Series W90Vp-X1 on newegg for $2,200.
Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz
18.4" 1920x1080 resolution
6gb DDR2 800mhz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2
320GB 7200rpm harddrive
this laptop might not be pretty but it has a spectacular GPU. 4870 x2 is legendary in gaming.
eternalkp 2 years ago
the mac users dont buy a mac for its gaming capabilities, it's more for multimedia work and OS X. the gaming part of a mac is just an excuse to don't buy another computer for gaming only
sorry for my english if I made some mistakes
maxohpne 2 years ago
you couldn't be more wrong. so why people with mac & their mediocre hardware attempt to play the most demand title like CRYSIS?
these reviews are dumb since they are in low resolution like 1024x768

Oh its also the 17" macbook pro, so the resolution will have to be higher, Can I run Dawn of war two on high graphics and still get 30-40 fps?
Frez121212 2 years ago
mine has 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo ,
1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB,
320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm, and
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB Im not sure if i should install XP (32 bit) Vista (32 bit) or Vista (64 bit) I have all of them, i dont know which one to use on bootcamp for better gaming.
Frez121212 2 years ago
XP for gaming, but the best version of Vista is the 64. Unless you MUST have vista for your games, use XP it's much faster when it comes to gaming, and isnt bogged down as much as Shitsta
jesterbrotherspro 2 years ago
i also have the same problem unfortuanatly i the version of xp i have doesnt work with bootcamp so i guess its the vista 32 bit home edition... on the same laptop will the frame rate be slow? i was looking to play with decent settings in the 25-35 fps range... is this possible or should i put the money into getting a new copy of vista?
rdhotchillypprs8 2 years ago

yah you need a better graphics card or dual would be the best
happydappyman 3 years ago
an average fps of 30 is not really good, but for the setting used, it's not bad, but for a higher average I would put all the settings at mid, I don't think 30fps is a really good game experience
maxohpne 3 years ago
actually believe it or not an xbox 360 game runs an average of between 30-35 FPS so actually 30 FPS on a mac laptop for crysis is pretty freakin impressive. i might have to get one of these for college =]
