Those who say Bob Peck shows no emotion need to watch him as Sir Mulberry Hawk and John Browdie in Nicholas Nickleby. This man had an extraordinary talent for showing emotion through his eyes.
I also was in a multi-cast production last summer, and all of the Macduffs were loud and shouty - it was a great thing to see it stunned, subdued and quiet. It brought a whole new level to the scene. And when I got a good view of his eyes Peck was still showing remarkable emotion (even if more subdued).
Is it wrong that I know these great actors first as Emperor Palpatine, Robin Colcord from CHEERS and the hunter who gets killed by raptors("Clever girl!") from JURASSIC PARK?
McDiarmuid is great. His twin roles in this are both amazing. Ross is a smooth little bantam of a politico and his Porter is a cheery gnome who suddenly turns very scary indeed.
The best acting is distinguished by an artist holding two contradictory stances at once; the people who can be attractive and repulsive, kindly and threatening, weak and manipulative.
though i teach history i showed this to my classes when i was relating historical fact to what shakespeare wrote in his plays, the project was a lot of fun, seeing what shakespeare wrote and what history says. BUT after showing this to my students THE LOVED IT and requested that he see it again. SO i showed this again in class. Shakespeare in history class can be a lot of fun. for all i say.
no words can do justice to these GODs of the theatre.
I wouldn't call that zero emotion. He just plays it more stunned rather than crying or screaming like some would. That's one of the great things about theatre: one character is depicted by countless people, and therefore countless different ways.
omgggggggggggggg i hate shakespeare i just need help with my homeworkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Americans would be this high caliber of acting if they had a stronger theater culture (i.e. a National Theater).

Muldoon from Jurassic Park
Sherriff of Rottingham from Men in Tights
and of course, Palpatine from Star Wars
amazing. they were young once!
peeron 4 years ago
Roger Rees was not Palpatine in Star Wars. That was Ian McDiarmid in both trilogies.
