  • the guys a legend

  • haha amazing :)

  • piano rapists lol

  • 0:49 ORLY??

  • i love this man :3

  • HUSH CAMERA MAN! Don't talk over Muse or Matt, I don't care what language you're talking in! DX

  • hihî_passt_hìêr_ñèt_reín_ábà_ïch_bìn_sò_einsâm_wîll_jëmánd_mìt_mïå_schrèìbeñ

  • Awwe, when he looked at the camera there, I smiled so wide. I've never seen anyone be such a character and perform such a pretty piece today so casually yet so well.

  • wait! MATT wat were u gonna say lol could have the showed this a little longer

  • Megalomania! XD

  • That was so beautiful :')

  • Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh no, don't STOP playing !

  • I am a girl. I want to marry him. But thats too stalkerish... haha

  • Matt Bellamy is God. He can do a concert in front of thousands of people, then go backstage, hunt down a piano and still have the stamina to play piano better than most people. Considering that he's probably spent the last 2 hours contantly playing guitar/ piano and he might be pissed, thats pretty amazing!

  • @xxlaurenellaxx I saw them live a few days ago.. he was right infront of me, and i could tell that he plays his music with so much passion with any instrument. It really is amazing to see <3

  • whats the name of this actual song by liszt?

  • @digisolve actually it's not a Liszt. It's Chopin, Op. 25 Etude 12. "The Ocean"

  • @imaganov Exactly. But Matt turned it into Bellamy, Op. 25 Etude 12. " Awesome "

  • is that liszt?

  • @twiwonder: it's probably Tom Kirk.

  • if i was a girl i would totall- ok well i might marry him

  • I think he was thinking about Megalomania around 0:26 while he was improvising this.

  • Hot damn he loves his arpeggios. And he can pull them off that quickly like it was nothing.

  • That'd better not be some paparazzi idiot watching him. Musicians deserve peace and quiet (and wine, obviously:)) to compose.

  • one minuit does the guy say he's DRUNK i would have never of guessed that.

  • This man is a genius. More people need to understand that.

  • @321conundrum I agree, Matthew is completely underrated.

  • @mmjarec true but he makes great music

  • @mmjarec Not true. Not anyone can play like this with enough time and money. It takes dedication and a drive to do so. I'm not sure if you're a music type of guy, but not the average joe can read sheet music. Matt is a virtuoso. Not only does he play piano, he plays guitar, keytar, and sings (those are the things I know he does). Being a virtuoso, makes you a genius. NOT just playing piano really well. So if you want to troll and say he's not a genius, do some more research.

    Love, A muse fan.

  • @mmjarec hey, hey, hey, hey....fuck you

  • is appreggio sweeps, not that big of a deal, people calling him genius.

  • Comment removed

  • @JEP177777 It isn't a walk in the park. This improvision he played here is not the aforementioned piece. And even if he can play it, he is still not a genius.

  • @fungipower Arpeggio sweeps are a guitar technique not a piano technique as far as I know. As to the rest of my comment, never mind. ...

  • @fungipower It's Chopin. And they call him a Genius because of the way he puts techniques like rubato, syncopation, and amazing arpeggios in his music.

  • @DavidCeran rubato? there is zero rubato in his music. (Muse, not chopin)

  • @fungipower I feel studio and live versions of certain songs, like Space Dementia, have a lot of rubato.

  • love it when he reaches for the wine glass at the end going "allright?" whilst laughing like it was nothing.

  • Matt + Wine Glass + Black Grand Piano + Black suit = EPIC!

    And so beautiful... :)

  • matt bellamy = fckin genius!!!

    MUSE<3

  • Red Wine...hahaha

  • @nxskynet yeah he says that is the only drink with alchok whci deos not me his throat dry...lol

  • he is genious!!! it's Megalomania but on the piano! i love Megalomania... and this is SO FCKIN BEAUTIFUL i'm out of adjectives..

  • @Utangel17 you only used 2 in ur whole comment haha, but i agree completely

  • @footlesself99 hahahaah ! xD

  • is he... playing arpeggios with... both hands? is he not crossing over? if he is i don't think i can breath.

  • genuis

  • What the F?! Epic!!! D:

  • someday...I will be able to do this...

  • he's such a god with the piano

  • ohhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyy goshhhhhh........please please please please please please please............ nevermind i dont even know what im trying to say. im so moved by that..

  • 'alright?' haha

  • i want him...

  • sounds like the last chopin etude

  • i thinks he trying to figure out a song that influences just listen to the melodic bass line

  • No, it's "The ocean Op.25 No 12 Chopin"

  • @aquatomato9 its not ocean, i play ocean its completely different lol

  • @aquatomato9

It's not Chopin's Ocean Etude, It's Megalomania... listen carefully, you'll see.

  • I only wish I had one quarter of his talent

  • lol i love how he says "drahmstat, germany"

  • it sounds like megalomania just with chords if you listen to it good it really does sound like it

  • Yep, they are almost the same in another tone.

  • What are the people with the camera saying? Does anyone know?

  • he's so wonderful. wish i could meet him

  • When I saw Matt playing this with a glass of wine on the top of the piano I thought 'this guy has class...'

  • Totally xD

  • this was also a prelude to sunburn

  • Wine Beats Beer anytime........ Especially if you play the GRAND PIANO

  • it's megalomania lol

  • We KNOW megalomania is on an organ, but the CHORDS sound similar... When someone plays a tune or a piece on guitar that was originally played on piano, do you say it doesn't sound like it, even though they are playing the same notes? Or do you even understand music enough to know what I'm talking about? -_-

  • Oh, yeah, thanks for that.

Of course I fucking know that its going to sound different on different instruments, I'm not retarded. I was just saying that *I* thought it sounded like Space Dementia, and as far as I know I'm not the first person to have an opinion of the Internet.

  • You are very welcome.

If you're not retarded then why are you saying that someone is wrong to think it sounds like Megalomania because it's "on an organ" and this is being played on a *different instrument*? I wasn't saying that it doesn't sound like Space Dementia, I was telling you that saying "no, ...megalomania is on an organ" isn't a valid argument against someone who thinks it sounds like Megalomania.

  • Ok then, it wasnt a valid argument. You done?

  • Yup.

  • o man thats friken awesome

  • I reckon he is just free stylin'... like 93willy said.. just some arpeggios, not actually as hard as it looks (but Bellamy IS the master at them)

  • Many bands would be drinking beer, or who knows what else...Matt Bellamy has a glass of red wine. :D

  • Chopin - Op 25 no 12 'The Ocean' Etude,

    to elenzln :)

  • thanx!!)

  • No, it just sounds very similar to that etude I think, if it is he isn't being very distinctive with the accidentals and whatnot.

  • It's very, very reminiscent of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Concerto, Which is where I think Matt got the chord sequence for megalomania.

  • Actually, on the CD he gives credit to Chopin for the piece, but that's a good mention it does sound a bit like Rach 2.

  • Space dementia / Rach 2 ;)

  • @ShOwBiZ88 i play space dementia. Holy shit its hard :)

    MATT IS A GENIUS

  • lol it's not so hard :)

  • Does anybody know what composition is it?

  • A grand piano and a bottle of wine, classic.

  • Does anybody else find it quite tasteful that a man plays piano while enjoying red wine?

    That's positively sauve!

  • @CursingComplex Isn't it just.

  • @CursingComplex it's very posh

  • it sounds a little like megalomania-does it not? whatever it is it's brilliant.

  • I can't wait for the resistance ... :-----)

  • wonder if this will be on the resistance? bells said he has been working on a piece for a while and im wondering if this could be it? :)

  • these are just some minor and 7th arpeggios

  • one word: awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • he is the best!!! I love his sound and his charme! i listen muse every day in my ipod.... i can't live without he's music!!

  • naaah, I wanted to hear more!

  • i wanna learn piano because of Matt...he's already my main guitar influence. my hero :'D lol

  • thats exactly what got me into piano and guitar! :)

  • wow. just wow.

this is from a rockstar as well.

    bellamy ftw

  • Lol Fancy Wine Glass And A Bottle By The Piano, Thats Bloody Badass, The Song He Was Playing And How He Was Playing It Was Beautiful!

  • How about they shut the F%#k up and listen to him play?

  • Am I the only one who thinks Matt is completely badass by the wine bottle/glass on piano basically alone in a huge room deal?

  • LOL bottle of wine :P

  • I'm in love

  • This sounds like a Chopin Etude.

  • Etude no. 1, Op.10 - that's the one with the huge arpeggios.

Alternatively you might be thinking of:

    Etude no. 12, Op.25

Chopin's Etudes are masterpieces. Well worth a listen if you like Matt's playing here. It's probably the music that inspired him.

  • Yeah..

Very loud and very fast ... and very easy.

Anyhow. I don't know any Rockstar beside Matthew who's able to play even ARRANGEMENTS of Chopin Etudes (: .

    I like him.

  • Are they easy? Ofcourse you've learnt them? I wanna learn them. Matt rocks at the piano, I love it.

  • rachmaninovs piano concertos sound very similar as well. a little more difficult but very similar

  • sounds more like Megalomania in arpeggios, though i don't think it is

  • its ocean etude op:25 no:12 by chopin but simplified!

  • no... its really not, hes playing e minor arpgeeios, chopin etude 25 12 is in c minor.

  • I have made a midi of this, it is megalomania, the exact chord progression from the beginning of the verse to the end of the chorus, but in Cm.

Try singing megalomani over the top to get a better idea. But this is 100% definately megalomania chords, not chopin.

  • i was saying it wasnt chopin, and yeh it does sound familiar to megalomania

  • yeah mate sorry i as replying to this general string of replies of the discussion hehe x

  • No he's not a master pianist from a classical sense. However is there anyone in rock who can play as well as he does IN addition to being a guitar hero and writes 100% of all Muse's songs? Oh did I mention he's one of rock's best ever vocalists?

  • yea I agree with you - There are a plethora of performers (even as young as 11 years old) who far rival his classical playing ability, but among rockers, he's the best

  • ZOMG WOW.

    lmao at the wine

it ridiculous how much talent is squeezed into one person... like just wow..

  • omg i love his piano playing!!!!

  • love the wine glass, typical Matt

  • and the bottle ;)

  • He does have a pretty tasty harmonic idiom. Uses his arms a lot though.

  • genius, as usual

  • Oh my god.

    That was beautiful.

  • he loves the wine the piano the guitar he is intelligent handsome he is the perfect man

  • but short

  • so true lol

  • i like the complitmentary glass of red wine. it's a fine touch.

  • i wanna piece of that. i seriously got turned on watching this =) matt marry meeee

  • WOW,hes so awesome love him

  • I'd turn gay for Matt Bellamy

  • i wish he would take me to paris

  • if you're not a male

  • lmao too far there

  • Me too :D

  • @gtbr24 Well said!

  • love this bottle of wine!

  • what he was playing was so amazing

so dark, so beautiful, also mysterious. I can only hope that I can play as good as him one day.

  • This piece is called "Ocean Etude", or Opus 25 Number 12 by Frédéric Chopin. I'd love for you to look into Chopin and other late romantic composers to find more of what inpsired you while listening to this.

  • The first about 15 seconds might be the Ocean Etude, but then he starts going to different chords, rather then the repeating C Minor, F Minor, A Minor, G minor, A dim5th Major, C minor Chopin used.

  • thanks!

  • This is Rachmaninov, isn't it? (lol, what an idiot i will seem if i got that wrong!) Anyway, Rachmaninov or not, Matt Bellamy is incredible.

  • God. I love him.

  • Awesome!! He's amazing!!

  • Matt is a multi-talented artist..he sings,he plays the guitar n the piano very well...u all should appreciate that....

  • he's been studying since 4 year old

  • Matt is multi talented artist..n u all should appreciate that...

  • DAMN!! he can play!! i love him!

  • I love how all you guys say there's more amazing pianists out there but fail to mention their names. There is no "best pianist" people. You'll understand that soon enough. It's about the finished product of music, not difficulty.

  • sergio tiempo, vladimir horowitz, artur rubenstein, i could go on and on and on, look any one of those guys up, as much as i love matt, they make him look ordinary!!

  • you forget something.... he is not just a classical player.

  • Horowitz, Cziffra, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rubenstein, Lang, Li, Hamelin, Kultyshev, Berezovsky, Ovchinikov, Eum Son, Ashkenazy, Kempf, Richter, Bronfman, Ferrarti, Freire, Pollini, Gavrilov, Shen, Kabavelesky, Lisitsa, Raphael, Avalos, Brobeck, Kurz, Lenner, Dong-Min, Igoshina, Yamoaka, Tamakshi, Busoni, Tiempo, Abrahamsen, Tsai, Pace, Franco, Marshev, Bergamo, Huagnci, Uehara, Profokiev, Franke, Kissinger, Kiss, Zimmerman, Perahia, Micheangeli, Magaloff.

  • They're not the "best pianist" but they're some of the more amazing pianists out there.

Though, personally, most people agree that Liszt is the best pianist to have ever lived, but, obviously he's dead now.

If you don't know more then 5 of the names I put, I suggest you search some of them, to see the sort of things pianists play...

  • Thanks for the list! I'm definitely gonna look into as many as I can

  • I'd reccomend Horowitz, Cziffra, Yundi Li, Eum Son, Kempf, Richter, Lisita and Zimmberman.

  • Awe.

I love the little smile at the end :]

And for everyone that is argueing:

    Matt Is A Great Pianist.

    LEAVE IT AT THAT.

  • I guess people call him a "Master Pianist" because of his presence, and the fact that they don't know anyone else with a skill level greater than his own.

How many mainstream artists do you hear who play piano like that?

I haven't heard many, aside from the British artists.

  • Plain and simple, this band is amazing.

Matt Bellamy's music brings tears to my eyes, and it's not because he's a master pianist.

I love the way he does his music.

In fact, I know a 12 year old who's a whole lot better than Bellamy.

But there's just this...euphoric feeling he brings with him.

  • Anyone know what he is playing in this video?

  • Just Arpeggios up and down. Don't be fooled, the technique is rather easy.

It's a shame that the fans are looking at him as a "god of the piano", but a good look and popularity counts the most I'm afraid.

  • I see what you're getting at but you can't deny that he's not GREAT. I mean see most people judge by difficulty, but who else writes piano tunes like him? I mean my point is that music is like a splatter of someone's mind, and it's not necessarily the difficulty, but the overall sound that matters.

  • Basically yes, arpegios played fast. Impressive but bedazzling. I saw Muse in 2001. He is making a lot of wind - and people like breeses. What I don't see is a struggle and therefore edge in their music. Nice guys altogether. Further I don't consider the piano work within Muse as compositions, they are fast played tones just as on guitar. The basic structure of Muse is compositoric; some bands should have that. A plus and a minus. Something keeps me make missing something...

  • he's playin megalomania

  • He's talented but no master pianist, no way. Apreggio after apreggio. I know 10 year olds that would school him on the piano, although I love Muse.

  • Oh my gosh just shut up!

We don't care about those 10 year olds that "play better than Matthew Bellamy"! Do they write music? No! They just look at some Beethoven or Chopin music sheets and play what they see. It's not "how well you play" that makes you a great musician.. it's what you do with your talent. Jeez. I mean, if Beethoven didn't know how to write music and just played what others played, no one would know who he was!

  • Look Matt is talented. Yes he writes very good music, sings very well, and can play the guitar very well. But I see some people on here call him a Master Pianist, and all I'm saying is that he is far from it. No need to tell me to shut up for expressing my opinion. He does have a unique style and to mix in classical piano with his style is very talented.

  • Uh, actually a lot of those 10 year olds DO write music. And before you write off pianists who 'look at some Beethoven or Chopin music sheets and play what they see', maybe you should educate yourself a little and listen to artists like Glenn Gould, Evgeny Kissin, or Ivo Pogorelich (all of whom write music as well as perform it). You most likely won't, because people like you think they know it all anyway
