Chronic infection from live vaccines has been documented long before Wakefield et al postulated this possibility in relation to the MMR vaccine and it's link to autistic regression in a subset of children. It's hardly a revolutionary proposition. The church of vaccinology, like most organised religions, has been subsidised for far too long by the taxpayer. These vaccines are causing long term disability and chronic illness in a growing percentage of the population.
SecretSylph, you seem to think the data in studies of the vaccine is taken by doctors every time the give a vaccine. It isn't, for precisely the reasons you're worried about - that would be far too open to abuse. The children involved in the studies will have been picked beforehand, both those who do and don't receive the vaccines . And the scientists conducting the study will collect the data themselves, they won't just use whatever some GP tells them.
Nemateleotris is confused. We are not saying we do not want to give 3 jabs in one go, we do realise that the MMR jab is a single jab...duh! We do not like the fact that the MMR jab contains 3 seperate immunisations mixed together, which has caused more side effects than giving a single jab at a time. These side effects, (such as when my kid got rushed to hospital straight after the first MMR jab only to be told it was unnconnected ) are life threatening and going unreported.
I'm sorry but that data is recorded and compiled. You can find the results at places like the Cochrane Library. The evidence is that the combined jab is safer (and perhaps more effective, but that bit isn't control-tested I don't think, so it may be a coincidence) than the seperate jabs.
Sorry to hear about the stressful hospital visit for your child.
@Teghead No, because the doctor says it is unrelated to the jabs the side effects were not recorded or compiled. That is my point. I know several mums whose kids had complications straight after the jab that were told there was no link. It is all about getting a cheap vaccine on the market not about our kids. I grew up when all these diseases were around and never met anyone with any after effects but have done so with the jab.
I don't get your point precisely. Your first sentence, I don't understand, can you please re-phrase it so I can respond?
Please don't be offended if your anecdotal evidence persuades me less than a study of half a million children. As a sample size decreases, so does the statistical significance of any results. Also your story may be altered by individual bias as it is passed between people. Memories tend to be innaccurate also.
Are you worried about MMR-autism, or something broader, btw?
Unless all doctors record bad side effects of the 3 in 1 MMR jab the results are going to be bias. Doctors will not admit the bad after effects are connected. My kid was rushed to hospital with suspected meningitis and his speech deteriorated after the jab - other mums I know say their kids have also had a noticeable mental change after the jab. I am not against vaccinations, I am against mixing a lethal cocktail of them and the 'doctoring' of the side effects.
Its very easy to throw up a false positive (i.e.wrongly conclude your hypothesis is correct) if you assume that because something happens with something else, it happens because of something else.
We have much more rigourous techniques than that to establish causation.
Jeni mentions democracy in the context that we each should be able to choose whether or not to get vaccinations. The trouble is, too often legislation is passed without our knowledge or approval which takes away our ability to choose. At that point it's time to choose new representatives who will legislate according to the benefit of their constituents.
We mums don't want to put our kids at risk - that is why we want a single jab and not 3 in one! Not one parent has told me they do not want to vaccinate, we just want to use a safe vaccine.
Not only is she an awful radio presenter who is well past her sell by date. She is an irresponsible one which is even worse, misinforming people who require facts in order to make intelligent decisions..........usless cow, sack her LBC
If her daugther have a reaction to vacination, which is just weakened version of the sicknes, imagine the reaction the girl will have to a full strength sickness, wich she propaly will get since she is not vacinatet. The mother is basicly putting her child life at risk for her own belifs
Quite a rant there, she must have been exhausted after that little outburst. Shame it was a load of b*****ks. And its a shame this all could all be settled simply by offering parents the choice of the vaccines seperately and yet they still refuse.
Whether you were being serious or not, the fact remains she did say that. And with the silly accent too. If you want to hear Ben's side of the story, I interviewed him this week for the Skeptic Zone (dot) tv.
cool, i'll listen to it, i recognise Phil Plait, i like him, i think i might have heard him on the Astronomy Cast.
every time she opens her mouth she says something stupid. how can you make a point of being rooted in the east end when she's lost any trace of the east end accent? she can't be that proud to be cockney!
even beckham kept his east end accent, but not jeni she's too good for that. lol i know i've gone OT, i suppose i'm one of those crazy people on youtube xD
3:00 what did she say? did the doctor leave her in the kitchen?!?? he must have been really upset to do that! shocking. i think i'm going to have to have a nap to get over it.
did he really do that to her do you think? or is she making that bit up?
maybe i misheard that bit, i'm not sure.
Jeni Barnett, i hope you get over the shock of being left in the kitchen by that doctor with the stupid accent in Canada :)
jeni, what happened to your east end accent, you don't sound cockney to me???
I Can't believe how stupid this woman is. She asks what is measles and whats in the vaccine, yet she somehow comes to the conclusion that it's not good for her child... I don't follow her logic!
What a dull witted, dangerous, moronic, ill-advised nincompoop.
If Wossy gets 3 months unpaid leave and Russell Brand was sacked for hurting someone's feelings, what do you think should be the punishment for contributing to death of the kids we as a society should be doing the upmost to protect?
holy moly. I wish they could just sit this woman down with a transcript of what she said and make her sign off on it. This is as much an assault on grammar as on reason.
She doesn't say what reactions kids are suppose to be having, no data.
She doesn't explain HOW she knows that her child "couldn't have the jab".
Typically unfocused, fluffy & emotional CRAP from people who think they have a right to broadcast whatever seeps into their mind no matter how damaging to public health.
and YES ! there is a drug company making the vaccine and getting paid for it ! so what ?
I'd agree with Bailey, but her crap puts everyone at risk.
She is talking out of her backside. My friends little boy has serious asthma and food allergies and has had his MMR without any side affects! She needs to look at the real facts rather than make up her own! She is absolutely bonkers but dangerous with it.
Rubbish. This is another uneducated moron with a conspiracy complex. Measles and diet are unrelated, dope. Should we have stopped inoculating for smallpox?
You should NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECLINE IMMUNIZATIONS. If you want to stand "alone" don't be surprised when everyone who wants Mumps, measles and Rubella completely eradicated blames you for it, BECAUSE IT IS YOUR FAULT, idiot.
So she is suggesting that vaccines aren't necessary and could be avoided by having parents stay at home? Surely that can't be serious!? She also rants on about wanting to hear from an expert about what measles is and what the vaccine does... isn't that what her doctor is for? You know, the one who is actually informed about the subject.
Honestly, I think people should need a licence to reproduce and she certainly wouldn't pass the test.
I happen to commend her for her actions. Let all the stupid people die. Anyone who doesn't believe in science shouldn't take vaccines, especially anti-evolution religious fanatics.
Really, let's encourage those who just can't get down with the whole "rational thought" thing to go back to superstition, faith healers, and shamans.
The ultimate proof of evolution will be when those who oppose it do so honestly, and extinct themselves.
What is wrong with childhood illnesses??? EVERYTHING!!! Just because they are generally only caught by kids doesn't make it good! children died of this!! That is like suggesting that what is wrong with africans getting AIDS because they are the main people who do!! She is a fool!! she repeatedly says vaccines are good and then says the exact opposite in the same sentence. I hope she is sacked!!
She's 'raised a biological child and two logical ones'? Does this ignorant, pathetically feeble-minded anti-science douchebag even have a clue what appallingly ridiculous bullshit she is spouting?
"I hope nobody tells her that evolution is a secret conspiracy by villainous biologists(...)"
Shhh! What are you doing?!?! Erh um, ha-ha, that is, is, is so funny. That joke you made there. As if biologists were secretly conspiring to lie about evilution to help our own wicked goals. Th-that is, phoaw, my sides are splitting, I declare. From the joke that you made. Which was not at all real. I'm going now, but not to spread evilution propaganda or anything.
Circle the wagons of course and form a defensive ring around yourselves. Well except for one or two of you who decide that you are going to have to deal with the attack sometime so you don't participate. The natives get trhough because you left a hole in the defense and a bunch of harm happens, not to you but others. Do you really have the right to put others at risk because of your uneducated oppinion? Such stupidity from this person. And what does being Jewish have to do with MMR?
Hmm, My ethics prof is of the same oppinion. And he get paid for this??
So lets see if I can help here. Say your travelling west by wagon train in the states in the 1800's and you get attacked by the native population, what do you do? part 1
