Yep. Enemies have TOO MUCH ARMOR at the end. It's IMPOSSIBLE to beat with rockets alone. Usual strat I employed was SRM x6 -> MRL x6 -> PPC x6. Unfortunately the makers of this game thought when you overloaded on coolers that you can basically spam PPC and not overheat because the cooldown index automatically dropped all your heat. You can't tell how many coolers I have in this video but basically I used MINIMUM engine to MAX my coolers to spam PPC. Engines too heavy to make mech run fast.
Oh god mechwarrior SNES. Nostalgic bugs actually made me play the other mechwarriors. It only has two types of weapons; lasers, and missiles, no ballistics except for machine guns. Missiles were either homing, or non-homing but non would still track, only barely. But if you have 8 heatsinks, and you're on the ground, your mech CANNOT overheat even sitting in lava firing ppcs. So you don't need an engine at all. Mount 5 ppcs, max armor and jumpjets and land 0.5 sec every 10 and you autowin.
About the PPCs being used- no, that is not possible in the Mechwarrior universe.
I have not seen a Mech armed with more than 2 PPCs, ever, in the board game (Classic Battletech), which I have been playing with a group of friends, one of which is an excellent GM.
With that much heat, yes, you would auto-shutdown or have some sort of catastrophic explosion.
I use a Battlemaster, and even he has heat problems. There are turns where I don't fire with my Marauder IIC with dual Heavy Large Lasers.
wow thats fucked up, totally fucked up. Heat index at +38, can't move worth shit on the ground, only air. And fully loaded on Particle Cannons that should blast your mech with auto shutdowns after every round of fire, yet didn't.
I recently talked to a friend of mine who played this. They said whenever they got the heavier mechs they'd overheat like mad even with maxed heat sinks. I didn't get into technicalls, since I can reason what he probably did, but would anyone who played this game know why this would happen?
I love mechwarrior and all but i had a siesure and i dont have epilepsy! Too many ppcs its all shoot no strategy. but maybe im being to hard those were the, um 80's? early 90's? i dont know, might be fun to try

Yep. Engines are OVERRATED IN THIS GAME.
Who needs ground speed when you can fly faster anyway? #LOL

Man...too much PPC action. I beat this game when I was a kid; not sure of the setup I used.
But, pen & paper Mechwarrior? *Two* PPCs were overheat nightmare.
Give me a Marauder, Inner Space. I will smack down Warhammers all day long.
Can take down Clan as long as I have some artillery fire on backup. i.e., Longbow hiding behind some rocks.

Notthing should be able t take that many shots and live.
