Thanks a lot, this looks like it'll be helpful. My rear derailleur hasn't been switching to the highest and lowest cogs. I thought it might be those 2 screws that adjusted everything but I wasn't sure. I was more so fussing with another screw that seemed to move the whole derailleur height from the gears.
@Boesman29er After he loosened the cable with the chain on the middle gear, he let the derailleur drop to its own level. Whether it moved up to the biggest gear or dropped down to the smallest gear after loosening is how you know which type of derailleur you are dealing with.
@Boesman29er Yes you are missing something, well actually the video neglects to mention it, however, you may notice he does do a quick shift to the proper gear. This will give you that slack you are missing in your cable. When he loosened the cable he was at gear 2, the chain dropped to its natural gear (on my bike it dropped to the smallest 8th gear)...you will need to shift your gears to the appropriate gear in order for this to work. Good luck!
Really Really good vid man. I've always adjusted my own derailer with limitied results, because I didn't completly understand the High/Low limit screws. Very easy to understand and I've got everybike around my house shifting better than new. Save me money and time from putting them in the shop. Good Work!!
What is that adjustment screw located above the 2 limit screws for? I see that it moves the derailer mechanism, but I don't know what the effect is. Thanks.
Just wanted to say thanks, I've saved lots of money by using your videos to make adjustments. I'm looking to see if you can put one together on re-building a front tire when replacing a front hub...cool, thanks!
Another great vid! Decided to go ahead and check the bike before my test and tune on my way to work and sure enough it was off thanks again, great vids!!!
Thanks for posting the video man. Ive been having some major problems with my chain nog staying on the cogs when I shift and I think this might help, along with some fine tuning.

Am I missing something here or did he need to drop the shifter down to the lowest gear after he loosened tension?

Awesome video. All rear derailer videos should have at least this much content. This gave me a clear understanding of how the system works. Thanks!
