What is the point exactly, of reworking Doom to full 3d? Is it scalable model instead of sprites?

Visually I think this game suffers from the change, and I don't see the immediate benefit to the gameplay. It does look like it was fun to make, and several of the models look really good... but given the choice between them, I'd stick to the original 2D game.

They are mostly good models, and except for the civerdemon not exploding, with great detail. But some of the models where a bit too square, and then i'd rather like good hand-drawn 2d (for example, the 2 barreled shotgun looked weird)

decent to good monsters for me:

lost soul, cacodemon, mancubus, (brown cacodemon - can't remember the name), archvile, spidermastermind (and it's spawn! can't remember the name either).

all the biped monsters except archvile suck ass so bad it's not worth using the models.

WHAT! no Cyberdemon Blowup death...

the only monster model that looked cool was the lost soul, the others SUCKED.

the other models (minus gore, dead bodies, weapons, and ammo) where GREAT

the lighting from the light sources could make some sweet levels! but personaly I like the gore, dead bodies, weapons, ammo, and more imporantly MONSTERS sprites better than there model counter parts.

I'm having problems with my doomsday engine. I would be in the middle of a game (with the 3D models) and the game would stop and I would get a message saying that the program has stopped working. Also my game is hardly working as smoothly as the example above, with some lag in opening doors and performing other actions and the music takes a while before it loops again. Any suggestions?

This is what you get when a bunch of fanboys create textures/models instead of a team of professionals, but I don't see a team of professionals wasting their time on something that wouldn't make any money. It's pretty cool overall. The artists get an "A" for effort. But it could have been so much better.

Successful models for me were the Lost Souls, Mancubus and Bulldemons. Shame the Cacodemons and Imps are a little wet :( Spider Mastermind and Cyberdemon done quite well! Never saw his death animation though o_O
