Also CGSociety rated Blender 4th, of the coolest, most influential, CG products, films, etc this year.
I own Maya and Carrara. Carrara is very simple to use but has its limits. May is simple to start but gets very complicated as you advance. Blender is incredible software that rates up there with Maya and is extremely complicated to start but for free you can not beat it. You just have to have a lot of drive to make it pay off.

I used to use blender, but felt the developers and community were unprofessional and lacked concern for users trying to learn 3d. Anim8tor might be a lesser package overall ( and games made in blender have horrible camera work, just try any including yofrankie or mario etc. ) but the developer behind it listens and overall I find the UI totally adequate and a joy to use. Blender defaults are rigid in many instances yet they refuse to make any changes which shows zero concern except for elitists
@leebojammin Have you ever been to the blender artists support forums? They have been a huge help for me and a lot of other people. Blender was made mainly for modeling, animating, and rigging. The game engine is not the main feature of the software, so that is why you export your projects to Unity 3D.

Anima8or different, but most of these comparison videos are showing off fresh talent over any modeling abilities. If Anim8or wanted to add other things to the mix, all it has to be is a new button in with the rest.
All you'd have to do for boleen, for instance, is put an object through another, and then hit alt+something or other and there you have it.

This is way too old of a video to be comparing them. So much more can be made with Anim8or now. (And with Blender!)
I personally have used Anim8or since 2008 and it worked great. Recently, though, I've switched to Blender. I still do stuff I find easier in Anim8or (such as the cut tool) and just export to Blender. So I use both, really. Yes, Blender is much, much more powerful. There's no denying it. But Anim8or is still a great program to learn with. (And even use in conjunction with others)
Bias is very unfair, and the comparison is kind of rude. Anim8or DOES do cloth and water, but with some help. And with some programming, you CAN do games with it. Your just acting sort of jackassy to anim8or, and besides, you have to give Anim8or credit. All of that was fdone by ONE GUY. I use blender. Anim8or to Blender would make me extremely happy :D :D :D:
I don't know, I managed to render absolute crap in 3D Studio Max when I had the opportunity to use it, so showing crap made with Anim8tor doesn't prove that better things can't be done.
A link to official tech demos made with Anima8tor would be a more convincing way of showing what limits (and capabilities) might be in the software.

I tried both, blender and anim8or, cause I want to create Models for Unity 3D, and I really tried to understand blender, but it has too many options you just don't need for creating a model, and anim8or is really simple to understand and to use, in the end you can create faster with anim8or, so I prefer it!

this isnt a very good video. it merely compares realism, yet i have found that as i am first entering the world of computer generated images and animation anim8or is a very easy to use tool. i will, once i am good enough, progress to Blender, but i must mention that anim8or is not designed for experts; it is only designed for a basic design and modelling use. i have learned to use the two programs in conjunction: anim8or has much better modelling capabilities while blender offers textures etc...
Hand a watercolour pallet and a paintbrush to a three year old, and a 23p biro to a portrait artist, the biro is gonna come out on top. Seriously, no-one is claiming that blender isn't far more capable than anim8or, but this video is a disgusting travesty of a fair test. The quality of model which can be produced with either software is functionally identical, and depends on the artist. The only potential advantage of blender is in the time taken to produce it.
Anyway, Blender is a really great program but Anim8or is great for those beginners (like myself) and when I'm done working with Anim8or, I'll be moving onto Blender. If a person who already knows how to do the simple things with 3D modeling, they could already create great models that are used with Blender. Blender, just has a lot more to offer.

Need to get your facts right before you make a video. Anim8or can be used in games, and can use textures. Blender is probably better overall, but I'd say Anim8or is easier to use. Anim8or is great if your just starting out in 3D, where as Blender can be very difficult to get into.
Yeah... I wouldn't really consider Anim8or one of "the two major freeware 3d apps out there". Blender rivals Maya, Max, and Houdini while Anim8or is basically a better version of Pivot or Paint.
In short, it's like you're comparing the IBM Supercomputer to a toaster (or possibly a calculator).
Blender is better than anim8or but this is highly selective and is way too biased. I've seen some amazing creations with anim8or and with blender, I guess it just depends which one you're better with.
if you are going to compare something, WORK WITH IT FIRST, not just grab some random images off the internet and slap them together, chances are that other peoples work is beter for one is that you HAVE to be a better modeler to understand just a FRACTION of blender.
Comparison can be just like a science project, all the variables haft to be the same except for one thing. How much time did you spend on the artwork? Do you examine both of the programs equally? It seems this comparison was crappy, blunt, and unreasonable. You are more like an advertisement then a human being.
This video kind of makes me want to mess around with Anim8or and see what I can come up with, if only because I think it was unnecessarily cruel. I'm betting that with a knowledge of shot composition, lighting technique, animation technique and story structure, you could achieve perfectly decent results with it, even if the it's not as powerful as Blender.

The surprising thing is that a lot of the anim8or images he showed were from the anim8or galleries. If anim8or wants to show itself off, it could do a better job. As for the difficulties of blender, I originally learned 3D directly from blender an found it easy if you want to learn.

Second, how are you defining 'professional programs'? While Blender isn't used in major studios it has a large load of features and can match with 3DS Max, Maya and Houdini in many ways.
Third, check your spelling every once in a while. Spelling like that represents that you don't care and are too lazy to spend the proper amount of time writing out an argument.
you also forget anim8or is still in development, it also doesnt have nearly as many people working on it as blender, so not many people donate to it which makes the anim8or development even harder

This is way too old of a video to be comparing them. So much more can be made with Anim8or now. (And with Blender!)
I personally have used Anim8or since 2008 and it worked great. Recently, though, I've switched to Blender. I still do stuff I find easier in Anim8or (such as the cut tool) and just export to Blender. So I use both, really. Yes, Blender is much, much more powerful. There's no denying it. But Anim8or is still a great program to learn with. (And even use in conjunction with others)

Bias is very unfair, and the comparison is kind of rude. Anim8or DOES do cloth and water, but with some help. And with some programming, you CAN do games with it. Your just acting sort of jackassy to anim8or, and besides, you have to give Anim8or credit. All of that was fdone by ONE GUY. I use blender. Anim8or to Blender would make me extremely happy :D :D :D:

I don't know, I managed to render absolute crap in 3D Studio Max when I had the opportunity to use it, so showing crap made with Anim8tor doesn't prove that better things can't be done.
A link to official tech demos made with Anima8tor would be a more convincing way of showing what limits (and capabilities) might be in the software.

I have to say, this vid is unfair, I can make a vid with good anim8or and bad blender screenshots too, and then say that anim8or is better.
I tried both, blender and anim8or, cause I want to create Models for Unity 3D, and I really tried to understand blender, but it has too many options you just don't need for creating a model, and anim8or is really simple to understand and to use, in the end you can create faster with anim8or, so I prefer it!

yeah blender has more features but anim8or is simple and has a good ui (unlike blender) The only thing I don't like about anim8or is the lack of regular updates. Also this video is retarded because ANYTHING you can model in blender you can also model in anim8or. Blender just has more effects and crap. Blender might be more useful if you are making a movie but when you are making games they are equals.

But of COURSE Anim8tor would be lacking in some features, it's whole intention is to be a free program that's friendly to beginners and like others have said, in the right hands, Anim8tor can do what Blender does.

this isnt a very good video. it merely compares realism, yet i have found that as i am first entering the world of computer generated images and animation anim8or is a very easy to use tool. i will, once i am good enough, progress to Blender, but i must mention that anim8or is not designed for experts; it is only designed for a basic design and modelling use. i have learned to use the two programs in conjunction: anim8or has much better modelling capabilities while blender offers textures etc...

Hand a watercolour pallet and a paintbrush to a three year old, and a 23p biro to a portrait artist, the biro is gonna come out on top. Seriously, no-one is claiming that blender isn't far more capable than anim8or, but this video is a disgusting travesty of a fair test. The quality of model which can be produced with either software is functionally identical, and depends on the artist. The only potential advantage of blender is in the time taken to produce it.

Anyway, Blender is a really great program but Anim8or is great for those beginners (like myself) and when I'm done working with Anim8or, I'll be moving onto Blender. If a person who already knows how to do the simple things with 3D modeling, they could already create great models that are used with Blender. Blender, just has a lot more to offer.

one thing, anim8or can make models as good as bender, the real only difference is that bender is more advance, and i totally recomend anim8tor because its a beginners software and yes there are water effects in anim8tor but you have to be professional to do that kind of stuff.

@Kamagoi4521 I used to model and animate with Anim8or for a while either, but if you get used to the interface of Blender it is nearly as easy to use as Anim8or and also features like hair/grass or water are easy to add.
Try the 'Noob to Pro' books from the blender website ;-)

Need to get your facts right before you make a video. Anim8or can be used in games, and can use textures. Blender is probably better overall, but I'd say Anim8or is easier to use. Anim8or is great if your just starting out in 3D, where as Blender can be very difficult to get into.

Yeah... I wouldn't really consider Anim8or one of "the two major freeware 3d apps out there". Blender rivals Maya, Max, and Houdini while Anim8or is basically a better version of Pivot or Paint.
In short, it's like you're comparing the IBM Supercomputer to a toaster (or possibly a calculator).

Comparison can be just like a science project, all the variables haft to be the same except for one thing. How much time did you spend on the artwork? Do you examine both of the programs equally? It seems this comparison was crappy, blunt, and unreasonable. You are more like an advertisement then a human being.

This video kind of makes me want to mess around with Anim8or and see what I can come up with, if only because I think it was unnecessarily cruel. I'm betting that with a knowledge of shot composition, lighting technique, animation technique and story structure, you could achieve perfectly decent results with it, even if the it's not as powerful as Blender.
And yeah, I've always used Blender.

The surprising thing is that a lot of the anim8or images he showed were from the anim8or galleries. If anim8or wants to show itself off, it could do a better job. As for the difficulties of blender, I originally learned 3D directly from blender an found it easy if you want to learn.

Blender has a unique UI but that doesn't make it a bad program.
Second, how are you defining 'professional programs'? While Blender isn't used in major studios it has a large load of features and can match with 3DS Max, Maya and Houdini in many ways.
Third, check your spelling every once in a while. Spelling like that represents that you don't care and are too lazy to spend the proper amount of time writing out an argument.

@Robfire10 I understand your point, and while I agree that it's not WHAT you use, but HOW, I tried Anim8or. While i acknowledge it's power, I am traditionally a Blender user, and found Anim8or too different. But then again, when I tried Blender 2.5, I found THAT too different.
