There's a white and orange car at :56 (passing) and then again at 1:06 (parked) and 2:09 (parked); doesn't the famous green beetle make it's first appearance parked at 1:26; green VW Van 3:26 and again at 4:13 and 4:52. A white beetle also pops up now and then, but they were pretty common.....
sorry, I was bored. green Falcon at 1:28 gone at 1:31, I think a white Lemans at 4:21, 4:29, 4:59. green Chevelle at 5:40, 6:04, 6:07 and 6:09. dark top Galaxie ( LTD?) at 6:04, 6:07, 6:42, and 9:42. light top galaxie at 6:10, 6:42, and 6:44 and it looks like Steeve passes a Pontiac Catalina at 6:21 with same coloring as the one at 8:33
just look for the car chase scene from the film "the burglars" (or le casse in french) with Belmondo to find out that you don't need muscle cars to shoot a great (even better than this) car chase
Film Editing In those days was Not very good. Try watching Adam-12 seasons 1-4.There is a Two tone White over brown Mustang that is in a Lot of sceens.
Despite what any of you think, the Mustang was 68 Fastback, with a 289 3-speed transmission, they're were about 6-8 of them built, by Carrol Shelby, for the Movie, nothing more, nothing less, I know, because I've personally worked on a replica car, and have argued the point numerous times and won. I've saught after for years for the last 2 cars that were intact after the film, but all traces ended after 70 sometime.
Vi há muitos anos e revi agora.....lindo...e ele era 1 louco tambem....e vi outros filmes com ele....1 homem lindo...e partiu cedo com 1 cancro bjs p todos
I really dont care how many hub caps came off the Charger or how many times they passed the green VW,still the best chase scene ever, why hasn,t Bullitt been redone ??
Actually, Green Beetle sightings 2 & 3 look like pretty good continuity. Isn't the Charger passing it in the second sighting and the Mustang passing it in the third?
I have analyzed this chase scene for 30 years...you should know that the "duplicate" cars you point out, are simply the same vehicle at a particular point in time, viewed from multiple camera angles (with few exceptions). There are many other things about the chase scene other than just duplicate cars, such as the fact that they were shooting chain balls from the shotgun. Enjoyed watching the chase scene again though. I've probably seen it over a thousand times.
Imagine walking in to a showroom and saying i`ll have a new Charger in black with the 440 and 4 speed! It`s true you don`t know what you have got untill it`s gone.Thoughs were the days.
Its not duplicate cars. Its the same scene shot from different angles. No, not a GT40, a bored 302 with straight pipes. Now, the Charger was the problem, too much power for the Mustang to keep up with. They had to keep telling the driver to let the Ford catch up.
@mysticwalker2112 where did you hear that. After all these years. Both cars had pros and cons and were built up a bit for this hard driving. They were light with breakable unibodies. Mustang had a 390
@kalbahamut '68, '69 and '70 Dodge Chargers are extremely popular and sought after. As far as the suspension being terrible... you are full of it. This Charger used it's STOCK suspension and everything held up fine... thank you. In addition, to help keep these cars competitive.... the Dodge was handicapped with narrower G-78 tires instead of the standard G-70 and still done well. Enlighten me... give me a Japanese car HALF as popular from that era. YOU CAN"T. hahahaha
@label1877 hey dipshit, I hate Japanese cars. I'm not some ricer fag. I drive a Dodge Viper. and sure the Charger was a hell of a car for its era but the suspension still sucks. Have you driven any of these old muscle cars before? Did you just assume I like Japanese cars because a common defense of import fans is that they make up for their puny engines with superior handling? My Viper or any Corvette can beat any Jap car in a straightaway AND the slalom, I know that. Don't assume...
Steve Mcqueen, Lee Marvin, Clint eastwood, Lee van cleef, ernest borgnine, Robert ryan, John wayne, Eli wallach, Bruce lee, Chuck norris, george kennedy in the picture defending 'the Alamo', now that would have been epic.
At 2:44 or so, the getaway car has a rear view mirror. At 4:12, it's gone. 5:13, it's back.6:41-gone. It's an exciting chase scene, but kind of pointless. They're chasing him, then he's chasing them. They went on a semi-deserted street where they could easily have gotten him,but they wait until they're on a FREAKIN' HIGHWAY before he even loads the shotgun! They want to KILL him, but they're running AWAY. WTF? And with the whole damn desert there, he runs them into an exploding gas station.
Sounds like a Quin Martin production. (the soundtrack), gotta love those muscle cars back then. They would pull up and your whole chest cavity would vibrate. 102+ Octane of power.
Actually, the whole scene is nonsense because if the 2 guys were chasing him, once he appears behind they just had to stop when he is close and shoot him! Why would they try to run away? I never got it since the first time I watched this movie.
This town is plenty of green beetles, isn't it? hehe. I wonder if they took the pain to change plates numbers...
The taxi driver at 3.07 is typical. Anywhere in the word these guys are all a bunch of sob playing police and taking care of other ppl lives
The white Firebird is seen 3 or 4 times...the same scene with the Beetle...I think a silver Cadillac is shown in the city (the driver horns his Caddy) and on the road, when Bullitt runs in the middle...the Galaxie cab is seen 3 times too, once is parked...
absolutely ..THE GREEN BEETLE was part of the experiance when this came out in the theater we were sure it was used by the production teem! camera car maybe for some of the rolling shots ..count all the bugs lol ..part of the fun
@tdealmont im sure he was downshifting and upshifting like you are supposed to do with a transmisson and the green bettle at the 5 minute ish was on the same hill
@tdelamont There are many, many details in the Bullitt chase scene that are completely nonlinear. We learned simply to enjoy it rather than picking apart every single detail.
That was fantastic! I love that movie. There are so many awesome cars there. I sometimes feel like I was born 30 years too late. What must it have been like to get a brand spankin' new '68 Mustang right off the showroom floor! Todays cars just don't even come close.
This car cost about 3900$ US brand new. Gas was about 35 cents a gallon at about 107 octane fully leaded. This was when AMerica was at its Zenith with no bullshit regulations. This was when America Was America. Ford 390 cubic inches at about 9 miles to the gallon. the video dont lie. RH DSD
@DIOSpeedDemon Agree. Good old times, but that couldn't possibly last forever. This kind of consumption would exhaust all the earth's resources pretty soon. Today a Range Rover consumes about the same though....
Even beyond the car chase scene, I can't recall an actor making a movie so great by using his lack of dialogue, facial expressions, body movements, as well as the way he walked, from the opening scene to the last, as he looks at himself in the mirror.
Just check out the trailer's here.
Of course it helps when your production company is involved and McQueen picked Peter Yates to direct.
BTW, the stunt driver here is the same one who eluded Roy Schrider in "The Seven Ups."
When the stunt drivers got the Chargers and Mustangs, they tested them down in L.A., in the hills near Dodger Stadium, and they stated that the Charger ran rings around the Mustang. And that was with stock cars, handicapped with the skinniest wheels they could find.
the driver of the car......actually drove in this chase. so he and mcqueen would practice by driving around a track and touching hands to get comfortable with driving so close......
@imstillstuckinthe80s All soundproofing was taken off the mustang engine interior to make the motor sound badder. this is a pretty tame motor for 1968. A Hemi 426 had 700 hp. right off the showroom floor at this time.
@plenum1138 ya that feature ever sense it came out has ruined videos for me ill look for a video and find ones with text and crap all in it and have to search for another half dozen before i fidn one that's not all covered with texts.
Great Video,,,,I had only spotted the Green Beatle........but that motorcycle was driven and skidded by Steve McQueen....I have won many bet on that fact......annonate that if you like.........Steve was the best........
Kinda hard to tell but I think that green beetle number 2 might actually be at 3:22..second car parked on the right...hard to judge the color in the shadow though.
If your really a chase scene fan, you'll recognize the driver of the charger from another equally cool chase scene from the movie ''the seven-ups''.......
chargers are cool dont get me wrong but if they were gonna go the chrysler route i think a hemi-cuda would have been rly cool for a matchup with the mustang
your wrong guy he was a stunt driver in the 60s and 70s. he done alot of car chase sceens. and what he is most famous for is james dean died in his arms after his head on car crash. and his name is bill hickman. not tring to be a hard ass jus droppin a lil info

@imstillstuckinthe80s All soundproofing was taken off the mustang engine interior to make the motor sound badder. this is a pretty tame motor for 1968. A Hemi 426 had 700 hp. right off the showroom floor at this time.

that hill is awesome since they made it a 2 lane.
at night its rely sketch cuz not many people drive it at night.
note to self: landcruisers at 70+ on that hill are a bit sketchy.

OutlawMercenary 2 years ago
chargers are cool dont get me wrong but if they were gonna go the chrysler route i think a hemi-cuda would have been rly cool for a matchup with the mustang
