Well I guess the old saying "good things come to those that wait" payed off. I finally found a NOP 3rd gear to replace the one I lost. I will incorporate it into my next tranny rebuild in 10,000 miles or so. For those that are not that familiar with a GT6 it is best to strip down a tranny every few years and replace the mainshaft needle bearing, sync rings, seals, worn parts and so forth. The transmission is the true Achilles heel of a GT6.
Differential problem. The diffy dropped a pin on the planetary carrier causing the rear end to seize. This instantly led to the transmission stripping out the gear I was driving in. It destroyed both the 3rd driving gear and the expensive counter shaft (lay gear) as well. I found a countershaft gear, brand new, on e-bay that had been sitting on a parts store shelf for 38 years. As for the diffy I sent off to Canleys Classics in the U.K. and had them build me a new one. bob

Very nice. I put a Bell sport exhaust on mine and I could not believe the sound. Fantastic. I miss that car.
Enjoy yours.
