This is a pr speech for Joe Solmonese. If this kind of softball is what Mr. Sanchez is bringing to Barney Frank's office, I have to say "no thank you." I would have been more impressed if he boycotted the HRC banquet like most Bay Area trans people had the sense to do. You DON'T honor your brothers and sisters protesting across the street by ignoring their picket line. Inclusive ENDA will pass, and HRC, Solmonese and Frank will have little to do with it. Go Tammy Baldwin!
It's because when a president of an organization stands in front of a crowd of supporters and says that his organization will not support any bill that leaves out anyone from the GLBT community and turns around and does the opposite, tends to piss off that group.
I agree, it's extremely difficult for a bill of this magnitude to be passed without some modifications. Hence splitting the bill into two to improve the success rate of one.
Look up Barney Frank and enda. He pretty much sums it up
Homosexuality and transgender-ism are two different things. That's why it's so difficult to pass an inclusive ENDA. Why won't the trans community accept this?
Please reread my response! bit by bit does not work! Negative Stigma with the public? Is that is what you think? What has the UK to do with the USA? Other parts of the world are more progressive and a lot are less progressive it has nothing to do with HRC. (GLB,HRC)created this divide because of statements made by HRC that were not kept! Diego Sanchez's speech was very positive in the understanding of what was up across the street. How many t's do you have as friends How many do you even know?
Thank You Diego Sanchez for mentioning the T-people across the street and Your speech! Why a lot of us are upset is because HRC agreed to support ENDA with out the T after saying it would not happen! The Past performance and actions of HRC doing the same thing has caused the anger directed mostly at HRC!
HRC and JOE S. need to make a written and spoken public apology to the T-people and publicly withdraw HRC'S support of the current stagnate ENDA bill! HRC needs to do this!
I know you probable won't want to hear this, but I agree with HRC's decision. They way things work, as evidenced by the past, is that we cannot always get everything we want done at a time. It is easier to accomplish things bit by bit, then all at once. That's why I don't think the T-people should withold support from organizations like the HRC, that ulitmately have their best interest in mind. This is why we Democrats have problems trying to accomdate everyone, while Republicans know that...
...getting their constituents (diferent industries, social bigots) to be patient an wait their turn. Take for example, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." This was decried by many becuase it wasn't all that we wanted, to be able to serve openly. However today (which may not be the case had Clinton not ordered it), public oppinion (and the voters) is in favor of allowing homosexual people to serve openly. This is why we all must be patient, in order to achieve what we want. (I hate compromising values too.)
The past,Stonewall, the beginnings of "Gay Rights" T's were the leaders! T's need to boycott HRC now! HRC in using T's asbargaining chips! No T's = no Gay Rights! History has really shown that you get little by bit by bit! HRC in no way has the T's best intrest in mind. The last straw was HRC suporting a non T ENDA Bill after JOE S. told us a month before HRC would support an ENDA Bill with the T's That has caused people like me to become active and no longer patient! Regina
Okay, so your recognize the bit by bit part is true. I am not saying that Ts don't play an important role in gay rights, they do. However they are even more of a negative stigma with the public than GLB people do. Look at UK military policy. No GLBT first. GLB second. They are now considering the Ts. It is not OUR (GLB, HRC) goal to back seat Ts, it IS our goal to advance all GLBT people, no matter the time. Not supporting HRC only serves to divide the GLBT community, just what the bigots want.
ummm...
...I cain't quite put my fanger on it, but...
...there's something NOT QUITE CORRECT with this picture...
...What could that discrapancy be?!?
