This was a tough time in his life, I believe, after being fired from Purple in '89, I think. Believe he lost some self-confidence. A supportive wife and good manager and friends gave him "tough love," according to his autobiography. He had to stop the bad health problems. But he always bounces back! Love his expression in this video when he comes on stage. His eyes tell it all; he's thankful to still have such good fans. Love the guy!
I think it is funny when I hear idiots that say Ian Gillan did nothing after he left Purple the first time. A lot of this music was never aired or promoted as hard as Purple. Glad to see it back coming around and on Youtube.
Excellent song indeed! Sounds like a rocker tune that could have been on 'Perfect Strangers' or 'House Of Blue Light'm but isn't. I've always been into his post-70's Purple stuff, with Ian Gillan Band and Gillan. I have to check out the stuff he did in the 90's-present solo as well. Sounds interesting. I ordered 'One Eye To Morocco' yesterday after hearing 2 songs. Sounded great!
@highhopes14 I have not noticed similarities regarding facial expressions and way of picking the mic but, happily enough, Big Ian has a great way of singing in contrast to Mr. Plant's irritating voice (it reminds me of a gay man having cold :-) )
My goodness, so many great memories!! This is a video of the concert that Gillan&Co. played in Yerevan (Armenia) in May 1990. Loved those 4 unforgettable days. THANK YOU!
Man, this is fucking brilliant. Ian Gillan is one of the absolutelly greatest rock singers in the whole world. The high notes in this song are not as powerful as on the studio version, but the energy and the sound of his voice are amazing. GILLAN ROCKS!!!!

Guitarist is Steve Morris - different person entirely to Steve Morse. Great Guitarist, still collaborating with Gillian on some things...

for example wrote most of the songs on One Eye To Morocco
