  • I have not seen this movie since I was a young teenager in Brooklyn, New York and went to the movies to see it!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!! Do you have the full version???? I'd love to see it!!!!!

  • After Shaft and Superfly, this is my favorite 'blaxploitation' movie, and I've been waiting impatiently for an official dvd release for years. I taped an edited version off the TNT channel late one night on VHS about 15 years ago, but it has since deterioted and is no longer watchable..It was released by MGM, which means Warner Bros owns it now. It wasn't a big box office hit which may explain why WB hasn't released it yet. Hopefully it will be released soon on their Warner Archive Collection !

  • Man I didn't know Vonetta was gone, she was the first crush I ever had on a movie star back in the 70's, what a beauty she was.

  • OMG!!! I remember this movie, it was very good and yes Calvin Lockhart was ahead of his time.

  • Never knew this movie exsisted. A lot of these movies are out of print, tied up in legal limbo or they can't find the rights/buy the right to re-release them. Looks like it was a good one.

  • GLORIA = PLAYED GINA'S MOTHER FROM THE SHOW "MARTIN"

  • 0:09 That's Gina's mom Ms. Waters!!!!!!!!!

  • @Firelogger KEEN EYE !!

  • @Firelogger She was also "Diamond's" mom on The Player's Club, as well as on of Lamont Sanford's girlfriends on Sanford and Son...the lovely Judyann Elder.

  • @arkansoul Yes I remeber her telling Lamont to get the chicken out of the fridge. The same episode when he got his own place, and Lynn Hamilton (the same actress who played Donna Harris) was his landlord.

  • @Firelogger Those ladies back then were more beautiful than these ladies are now...to me. They were natural.

  • @arkansoul True. REAL HAIR, REAL NAILS REAL WOMEN.

  • @arkansoul And also she plays as Gina's mother of the show "Martin"!!

  • I like the background music in the scene where the dj and the light skinned lady are sitting down talking..........

  • the starring character is full of crap.....

  • She looks just like Beyonce from 4:25-4:32

  • @DVL32 lol...Beyonce has nothing on her!

  • @dmovie27 Hahahahaha you soooo right...This lady was beautiful and classy...even the one played on sparkle Lonette Mckee couldn't touch Vonetta McGee....Georgous. One talent Soul Sistah!

  • @DVL32 She's the ORIGINAL Vonetta Mcgee. She had quite a career. May she RIP

  • @DVL32 Beyonce wished, hoped and dreamed of coming anything close to the Queen Vonetta. Beyonce is like the cute kid sister.

  • Calvin Lockhart, Billy Dee Willams , Fred Willamson, and Richard Roundtree were major Black stars of the 70's era!

  • Is Mr. Lockhart dead also? Man I didn't know Ms. McGee was dead either. Tis was one of the best Balck movies that they made! I loved his energy, when I saw him in the predator movie I was like hey that's calvin lockhart from Melinda, and people were like and...it then occurred to me, that these actors were not known to the new generation and that's so sad. I wish I could make them known to every black child on this earth!

  • @arlenerogerswilhite Thank you for such a nice comment. Yes, sadly Mr. Lockhart passed away a few years ago. Hopefully this film will be cleaned up and released one day. It is a shame that these films have been kept away from not one but a few generations of black children. They probably could've had a positive influence and made a difference. There's a LOT of films Mr. Lockhart did that many people don't know about. He wasn't just Biggie Smalls.

  • @dmovie27 Calvin was before his time....he, Ron O Neal and Billy Dee were underutilized....Most of the actors/actresses like Calvin/Billy/Ron were classically trained theater performers who had liitle or no options after the early/mid 70s era Hollywood passed on them...

  • @taylor4660 Yes very true. A lot was lost sadly by not utilizing their talents more, but we have to be grateful just the same for what we did get. Sometimes it's not about quantity, but quality.

  • @dmovie27 Calvin's character is patterened after 70s DJ Frankie Crocker....

  • @dmovie27 Right on bruthu!

  • @dmovie27 calvin lockhart is/ was the MAN!!!

  • Man, I did not know this movie existed. If you could upload the entire movie, that would be groovy.

  • Thanks for putting this up!

  • thanks for posting

  • Thanks so much I have been looking on HULU for MELINDA, my favorite. I met Calvin Lockhart in '84. He looked at me and asked, "Didn't we have a kid together once"? Had anyone else had said that I would have been offended. But since it was him he got a pass. Saw him again at the Hilton in Hollywood years later and I said "No we didn't have a kid", I walked away not waiting for a reply.I was feeling myself that day. LIFE IS STRANGER THAN FICTION.

  • @yourgrandmadarling Re meeting Calvin Lockhart, what was that experience like for you?...What struck you most about him when you first saw him?

  • "your beautiful and I'm beautiful so its only natural that we would gravitate towards eachother"lol haaaaaaaa! Smooth!

  • Calvin Lockhart was fine! Classic movie.I never saw this one! Thanks for posting!

  • What year did this come out?

  • Calvin Lockhart!

  • RIP Calvin Lockhart and Vonetta McGee

  • The band inside the night club was jamming hard. I'd love to have this soundtrack. That DJ is a smooth talker and he was laying it on thick, but Melinda was keeping him in check.

  • I just found out she passed away..........my she RIP...thank you Ms Lady...thank you

  • OK, Frankie's assistant...correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she play "Mother Water's" Gina's mother in "Martin"??

  • @tonybklyn yup, that's her way back in the day. :)

  • @tonybklyn yeah u are right that is her..she also had a small part on sanford and son as one of Lamont's girlfriends

  • The legendary Vonetta McGhee (1945-2010)

I'll miss you lady. Thanks for making my world a little brighter! Much LOVE always and forever!

  • @dmovie27 So sorry 2 hear that Vonetta McGee has passed. She was relatively young and a great actress & beauty. RIP, Vonetta.

  • @dmovie27 she died....oh my lord...

  • @dmovie27 If you ever know of where I can buy this movie please let me know. Thank you.

  • can ahyboby upload this film or were download from

  • Calvin looked and sounded just like apastor in one of my local towns.. SPOOKY ..

  • it's so unfair how can they have white movies from the 70's ,but not black movies from the 70's

  • I ve been dying to see films like this one again, but thats been since the 70 s. Now that its 2010, its not easy trying to find classic s like Melinda. I even tried screaching on Netflex, but no one has a slight clue on where to find it.

  • @hhtigger03 Hopefully Warner Bros. is restoring it for release. The prospects look better than they once did. Keep an eye out for it.

  • @hhtigger03 Try Sanity.com. I found The Liberation of LB Jones and Paris Blues there, both for under $20.

  • Stay Tuned...Warner Bros. just released some long awaited blaxploitation titles from their vault and they looked great ( Black Samson, Three the Hard Way, Black Belt Jones). I believe Melinda is next up on their list. I just hope they're able to find a quality print to use because the one this clip is from is terrible.

    Thanks for watching. :)

  • @dmovie27 Wow please keep me posted I have been wanting this movie for so long!! I kept thinking it was Lonette Mckee but it was Vonetta Mcgee my bad..Man I lvoe this movie Calvin Lockhart and she was so beautiful.

  • I've been looking for this movie since VHS became a common item in the home. I would love to see the entire flick. I wanted to be Calvin Lockheart, or just like him, since I was 10yr old.

  • a few days after watching this movie (in 1972), my girl friend and I went and bought what we called "Malinda Wig" We thought we looked just like her. hahahaha Takes me back. Thanks for posting! would like to see the full version.

  • Thank you for the comment and the story. I know that was a sight for sore eyes to see. :)

  • Didn't particularly like this movie, but it had the hottest sex scene I've ever seen in an R-rated movie between Calvin Lockhart and Vonnetta McGee.

  • show you right! :P

  • omg who is that woman at 2:37?! she is fine as life!

  • Vonetta McGhee. they don't make em like her anymore!

  • thanks.

  • Vonetta McGee

  • thanks

  • Vonetta McGee was so pretty...Calvin Lockhart was fine honey...

  • Black folks were "doing it" back then.

  • @dmovie27 you said it, baby! what the hell happened to the swagger?

  • @sher3394 Two of the most beautiful humans to ever grace the face of the earth.

  • Classic "Jet Set" LA, James Gadson, LOVE IT!

  • Oh, was this Jim Kelly's debut? I didn't know that. I just wish the studio would invest in this movie and clean it up and release it. That's the LEAST they could do for the late great Calvin Lockhart.

  • WoW! Melinda (1972) This WAS and STILL is a great film!!!!

I am such a fan of this film. I saw this flick when I was 15 when it was a first - run flick. I saw it the first week it came to Washington DC. Calvin Lockhart, Vonetta McGee and Rosalind Cash starred in this fine film

  • Also......Jim Kelly first film.

  • I have to go and rent this one. Thanks.

  • Anybody else notice Vonetta McGee look's just like Ruby Dee.

  • Yeah, I can see the resemblance.

  • @danimcc1 Funny, I think she looks a lot like Beyonce.

  • @tonybklyn I just found out Vonetta McGee passed away...my she RIP...my heart is broken
