@goldwinggb This is close to correct. According to Wikipedia the song was originally released by the Australian vocal harmony trio New World in 1972, then Smokie, and so on. I am pretty sure Dr. Hook played it live when my band opened for them in a little club in Maine in the late 90s early 2000s though. It does fit the Dr. Hook voice perfectly.
Smokie sang the a version true..but who the fuck ia alice was sang by a dutch band long before that and that was before Dr Hooks version..
