  • so deep.

  • this reminds me of Love for $17.50 by Charles Bukowski

  • I thought this thong was about a homeless man who stays be the statue of liberty and what he would do to protect her(freedom) thumbs so people can see

  • @tehpoopflake I dug this song the very first time I heard it. It was very obvious ( to me at least) that it was about a schitzo homeless graffiti atrtist in love with his own painting. a 40 foot tall woman and he was'nt gonna leave her side. I don't quite understand the lyric "she's gonna testify on my behalf down at the navy...." so if anyone has any insight on that I would appreciate it. Thanks. The statue of liberty!!! WTF !!!

  • it's about graffiti, watch his interview about the song

  • Ratatat With Lyrics.

  • @ScrubBickies no.. just no.

  • Pablo Picasso: An Expert ; Beyond sharp shooting...! ://

  • This song is awesome

  • This song is about a homeless schizo who is in love with a billboard.

  • @nathanhayes82 Woah.. You're comment has opened my eyes.. i now understand the meaning of life....

  • @nathanhayes82 sorry it's not a billboard ..it's a huge paint on the wall..that's why he's famous and doesn't want the cops to take it away...;)

  • @melloz77 he made it!!!!!

  • I think it's symbolism in that he's created something of himself and no matter what, he knows its beautiful. Those people driving by to admire or just to go to work in his mind are marveling at it. It may be a painting, graffiti, hell, it may be a t shirt. Idt the object is what is important. Rather that he's willing to defend what he has created. But it's one of those songs with many meanings and all are valid. Just defend it like it was the only one. Then you'll have understood the song.

  • ive always thought he was talkin about the statue of liberty but i like the homeless painter meaning way better lol

  • the longboard video. Nuff said.

  • The way I interpret this song is that he is protecting a painting...either one that he created or one that someone else painted...it is 40 ft tall...and the police are trying to take it down. He is defending it and it causes a sensation that get the painting and him placed in newspapers and on T.V. and everyone that supports him pat him on the back and give him money...he is homeless and delusional but is protecting a beautiful piece of art...that's just what I get from it...to each their own

  • Homeless person. Paints a massive mural of a beautiful woman. People drive by the mural and take pictures of it. The mural is in newspapers. People pat him on the back and give him change because he created the mural. The police want to remove the graffiti. He becomes infuriated and threatens them. Because he is insane he believes the woman in the mural to be his lover and is confused as to why people call her a painting.

  • Yea it says "...For some reason they're calling you a painting."

  • wait this songs about the statue of liberty?? or am i missing something ?

  • not cocaine he has a mental illness

  • @narcissisticpolitics No he has the illnes of being AWESOME

  • Its about a painting.. the name is pablo picasso..and the woman that he loves is forty feet tall.. its pretty obvious. there is no "hidden" meaning in this song..

  • @mixxeddiva06 That's kinda what I was thinking but...whatever...everyone wants to find some hidden meaning...I think the song can mean many things...let people decide for themselves what the song means to them...you know? Lol

  • He might be talking about heroin. he talks about heroin in a couple other songs?

  • Girl = City

Man in song = Homeless man

Mr Officer = Taking over, trying to kick a homeless man out of the city he loves: the city that has treated him so well

  • Their website says that it's about heroin. He says "got a stick and a bottle pretent i got a razor"

  • @123456cheerio Doesn't change my interpretation. That's what music is all about.

  • Their website says that it's about heroin.

  • its about dealing weed

  • Same 4 pictures the whole fukin song hahah

  • my opinion don't mean shit but he's talkin bout ol girl Mary Jane..

  • @Malis420 ok that makes no sense. name one reference to weed in this song... thought not

  • @ryanbaxter420 of course there are no weed references, but check out the lyrics.. they have a certain resemblance to the topic, Shiiit i thought u knew 420..

  • @Malis420 in the context there is no relation between this song and green, just watched the lyric vid. you may jus smoke too much if its on your mind that much

  • I am not entirely sure, but it may be leading to Pablo Picasso himself and his enormous painting Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. It is an idealized representations of female beauty.

    ALSO...

"People hand me quarters, They treat me like im famous" - Picasso did live poorly and had little money, dealers gave him hard time Painter Derain said: "In some day Picasso will be found hung beside his huge painting, he loves so much"(I'll pretend I got a razor...)

  • You're actually retarded if you don't think it's about weed, not that your idea's aren't nice but deep down you know it's about mary jane.

  • This songs about a homeless man's love for the building in which dwells. I asked Cope personally and this was his response!

  • "HER" refers to the buidling that the bum is trying to save from getting torn down. Listen it is really interesting.

  • @theantluv Thank you so much, I get it now

  • @theantluv nice one

  • nice song

  • "it is a metaphor for someone who becomes one with and falls in love with their work and will stop at nothing to protect it. ChaCha"

( I did not come up with this but it's in my opinion a great way of seeing it)

  • ash that dislike bar off and keep this song playin

  • This is the song that made me fall in love with Citizen Cope. Beautiful.

  • i apsolutely love citizen cope; it really is pure perfection for longboarding.

  • Thumbs up if you melt at the sound of this song beginning.

  • My day was interupted by this beautiful song...

  • its about a homeless guy n a billboard <3 citizen cope!!!!!!!!!!

  • anyone who hates this song or any other song my citizen cope .. obviously has no real taste in music ... just sayin.

  • i remember wen my bf told me to listen to this song by cope eva since then i fell in love wit his songs...

  • why did i stop listening to Cope??? i missed this soo much!!!

  • pretty GAY nah REALLY GAY

  • @LITTELTANK77 yeah ur pretty gay thinking tht this is pretty gay... u juss dnt understand the song...

  • pretty GAY

  • This song has always struck me as being about a homeless vet talking about the American Flag, I could be WAY off, but it's always been the way I've seen it

  • @OnlyRealOne8876

    hmm, thats very interesting...

    hm, i liked it.

  • Its about a homless dude who drew a painting of a famous actress on a billboard and sleeps under it. And the police try to take it down and he goes crazy because he loves it. Great song.

  • DAM YOU CAN'T EVEN RIGHT THIS SONG WITHOUT WEED

  • I have this song stuck in my head....Keep it in!!!

  • Its good to know that there is still good music ;)

  • he's in love with a famous movie star!! that's why she 's 40 feet tall( billboard) and why all people treat him like he's famous! no weed no nothing! pablo picasso because that woman is a piece of art! right?

  • lØl_áNýÓñË_wAÑnà_chÀt_wïth_mE_i_fEél_sÓ_lõnêlY_tòDÄý╝

  • I think there are strong arguments both ways for the "woman" being weed or a billboard. Personally, I think it's about a delusional homeless man in love with a billboard. If you think it's about a guy who loves weed, good for you. I dunno which one of us is right so just pass the rolling papers and let's have a smoke and be friends.

  • Are you sure its not about grifitti?

  • statue of liberty.

  • Damn..I used to listen to this song allll the time in grade 9 and now I'm done high school....i havnt heard this song since grade 9 either but it feels like i JUST heard the song...i sang along the whole way with a lil help from the lyrics in the description haha. Awesome song, thanks for showing me this once again!

  • I believe the songs about a homeless navy veteran who is also a talented painter and his wife either became a famous star or he sees her as his famous star. He painted a mural of her where he lives and he will not leave or let anyone harm "her". Making you realize how some of our soliders end up...So sad.

  • @kertrayable actually it's about this homeless man who is gone crazy, he's in love with a pablo picaso painting of a girl, but because he's crazy he thinks she real and that their dating. he ends up stealing the painting because he thinks she's real, and the cops want the picture back so that's why he talks to "mr" offcier :)...thats why he says for some odd reason their calling you a painting

  • @kertrayable very interesting take on these lyrics man

  • Its a painting for all the people who don't know what it is and most of you don't

  • @beasty1231 ur a pontificating dickhead :)

  • the song is probs about his own art

  • I think that his song is about a homeless man who makes grafiti art on a wall or overpass. The police want to get rid of it but he defends it from them and other people who want to deface it. People give him quarters and pats ont the back and treat him like he's famous because he made the art. People drive by just to see his mastrpiece and take pictures of it.

  • @TheBepJohn The girl he loves is on a billboard "The woman that I love is 40 feet tall" "For some odd reason they keep calling you a painting" and they come to change it and he kills the dude and it starts a whole line of problems

  • @TheBepJohn YOUR WRONG THATS NOT WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT:) DUDE YOUR WAY OFF. HAHAHAHAHA

  • @TheBepJohn Actually there was a homeless crazy man that defended a large(30ft) mural of a women. The police came to remove him so that a crew to paint over it.

  • @MrMidgettou WORD!

    too easy!

  • K. Crazy guy is in love with a chick on a billboard. He has climbed up there and refuses to leave her. The police are trying to get him down. The helicopters are flying over filming for T.V.

  • @JaredWilson29 @kertrayable actually it's about this homeless man who is gone crazy, he's in love with a pablo picaso painting of a girl, but because he's crazy he thinks she real and that their dating. he ends up stealing the painting because he thinks she's real, and the cops want the picture back so that's why he talks to "mr" offcier :)...thats why he says for some odd reason their calling you a painting

  • @1egyptiangirl i think your mostly right.. but it seems that "painting" is actually a picture on a billboard that he is in love with. hence why shes 40ft tall, and cars drive by to see her.

  • @mac423 hmmm then yeah that makes more sense well maybe the billbord is an add about the pablo picasso painting cuz im just trying to think of why they would name that song Pablo Picasso

  • @1egyptiangirl I believe He painted the picture, there for is an artist and a little crazy like Pablo Picasso

  • @1egyptiangirl everything makes sense except for the 40 feet tall ;)

  • @RaphX87 hmm you're right lol maybe the Pablo Picasso painting is on a billboard? lol either way he's a genius for writing this song! great lyrics!

  • HINT: "But for some odd reason they keep calling you a painting."

  • i think hes singing about a picasso painting that he loves and wants to protect.......... he loved her so much that he didnt see her as a painting he saw her as a natural thing of beauty. well maybe im wrong..... but nonetheless this is an awesome song.

  • Pablo Picasso was a painter. He's singing about him. Not drugs. Not some random homeless man. Not some douchebag joining the navy. He's singing about the man the song is titled for. People are stupid.

  • homeless guy - billboard... Citizen Cope is too good a writer to make one of those silly weed metaphor songs..

  • @jessegilmour1 This song is about a homeless man who's only companion is a billboard and he will fight to the death to keep her because he loves her and is the only "person" that has never left him,

  • anybody sure whether its a billboard by a homeless guy? or a marijuana plant from a dealer?

  • im not sure what song came first, but to me this song and "dapper mob" by sandpeople sound very similar...or its just me

  • my niece put me on to this song i dont usually listen to this stuff but this jam is tight

  • its a painting

  • O ya

  • why is there a thumbs down button you tube should get rid of it so the haters can fuck off and go hate themselves

  • my new favorite song why couldnt i have heard this days ago!

  • people hand me quarters

  • pablo picasso was never called an asshole! lol

  • nice song

  • Ya know, if they hand him quarters, wouldn't he be a homeless person protecting a billboard? It can't be a drug dealer, due to the fact that if so, they would be handing him dollars, not quarters. Also, the line "I got a stick and a bottle" and " PRETEND it's a razor." kinda says that he's either a bad drug dealer that can't afford a razor. he isn't a drug dealer. As for the "patting on the back" it could simply be that he's locally famous for defending the billboard. I have NO idea why though.

  • Who cares what its about. This song is fucking awesome.

  • Dude. You guys. It's called Pablo Picasso. Come on, use your brains. Read up on some history about Pablo Picasso.

  • could be homeless dude talkkin bout a billboard... could be a drug dealer singin bout marijuana... no one knows... ill song... interprate as u will...

  • he is referring to a chick on a billboard

  • mistah officuh, if ya come ta take er then that means one of us, gon end up in a stretcha saaaaay

  • I love reading everyone's ideas on what this song means. It really entertains me. Thanks for being so creative, everyone! :D

  • I think he is an ex navy seal who is now homeless and deranged "testify on my behalf down at the navy" and "People hand me quarters", and has fallen in love with this street mural that he painted and the cops have come to take it down and the press decides to cover it "They say that a wild man defending his lady But for some odd reason they keep calling you a painting" so he's standing up for what he loves

  • a homelessman on drugs whos in love wit a billboard gets busted?

  • this is about a billboard and he is a homeless dude but he loves the chick on the billboard "at night the lights hit her features"

  • idk i like the remix...try searching "second period swag" and lemme know which u think is better.

  • the woman that he loves is a billboard of a movie star. he is a homeless man, who is slightly crazed.

    "people hand me quarters"

    think about it.

  • Take the track for what it is

  • ok... let's, for a moment, consider there is only one way to interpret these lyrics. Then, the lyrics reffer to a painting that the author is in love with. He is crazy, and believes this painting to be a real person (but for some odd reason, the keep calling you a painting). In his imagination, they are lovers and she's the only one who doesn't think he's crazy. And the thing with the officer, it reffers to the fact that if a policeman will come to take him away from the painting, he will fight!

  • the man ate the woman who was the marijuana plant.

  • Mr. Officer is God trying to cause a rift between the love of my life and I. Boys and Girls! Cope is an artist, and whether this song is about weed or not... interpret it they way you would like! Any good artist (like cope) will tell you that their music is expressive and wants the listener to personally interpret their lyrics to how they see fit.

  • So this is the way I see it, pablo picaso fell in love with a painting right, he loves it but it isn't real. this guy seems like hes homeless, "people hand me quarters and pat me on the back", his love is freedom , peace of mind from smoking maybe, the officer is going to take away his freedom but his freedom was never real, it was fake from drugs like pablo picaso's love for the painting wasnt really real.

  • This song is Not about the statue of liberty. My friend is on tour with him. Check out my page, he got me free tickets to the show. Cope is a HUGE weed head, this song is about Weed!

  • Maybe its about an Artist and his connection to his work (on the canvas). It may be illicit or offensive but like all Artist they Love it, Defend it and Protect it like you would a real person. To us our work is more than just art. Either way I love this song.IMO

  • he is talking about a painting by the spanish paintor pablo picasso (wo lived in southern spain Málaga) and he fals in loe with the painting, and he thinks its a real person. tribute to pablo picasso. in my opinion.

  • Could it be a hobo crazy man who is in love with a poster on a billboard? 'but for some odd reason they're calling you a painting'

  • I'm pretty sure the Statue of Liberty is taller than 40 ft......

  • the woman he loves is The Statue of Liberty. 40ft tall, famous. he's a famous bum who hangs around The Statue. She can't bat an eye cause she's a statue.

  • this is mr. officer, not pablo picasso

  • the statue of liberty is 151.1 feet tall. before you start calling everyone else dumbfucks, learn2google.

  • ok u dumb fucks this song is about freedom the lady he loves who is forty feet tall is the statue of liberty and he is saying the mr. officer is the goverment trying to take his freedom away so he will kill anyone who stands in the way of his freedom

  • fuck... i love him so much!

  • how would you know what kind of music faggots fuck to dude?

  • @wmeister86 What the fuck is your problem you goddamn retard. What would you rather listen to? Justen Beiber? If you dont like the music then why are you watching the video

  • the woman is whatever the people want but the gov't is fighting (graffiti, drugs etc.)

  • the woman is a marijuana plant!

  • @kiikete1 yeah thats why he sings "for some odd reason they calling you a PAINT"

  • @kiikete1 a 40 ft marijuana plant? that would be kinda hard to hide...

  • @kiikete1 It's a billboard

  • @RuskeyMafios no its about weed, open your eyes alittle, duno why people believe the homeless guy in love with a billboard story I mean it makes a little sence but copes a huge stoner, you think he wrote it about a homeless guy? or the dope he smokes?

  • @IngloriousBear OK, let's assume it's neither about weed or a homeless guy. The only other thing it can be about is Pablo Picasso. That's the name of a song, Picasso was a painter. Perfect sense. It's not about weed.

  • @RuskeyMafios pablo picaso was an artist who fell in love with one of his paintings even though it wasn't "real". Clearence Eastwood is a brilliant songwriter and this song probobly has a special significance to him. Weed's really adicting if you use it enough and you get to the point where you cant go for more than 5 or 6 hours without it and in a sence you fall in love with it. He probobly considers his love of weed like that of pablo picaso's and his painting, open your mind a little.

  • @IngloriousBear You open your mind a little... all you're interested in is the weed theory.

  • @RuskeyMafios its not a theory, its what he wrote the song about, actually I havnt listened to this song for almost a year and could care less about ur oppinion, I remember the same "theory" exept with the statue of liberty back then but that got rulled out, like you said, its about pablo picaso who fell in love with one of his paintings, its about being in love with something that isn't real, some can't understand why you would love it but apperently clearence eastwood does, its about dope bra

  • @IngloriousBear Your spelling makes me want to cry. A theory can't be ruled out by people if they don't know what the fucking song is about in the first place. If it's about being in love with somethign as if it's real, it can be about anything, because people love different shit. Dogs, weed, paintings, sculptures. For all YOU or ME knows, this song is about kitty cats. If you want to rule out a theory, or be sure that it's about weed or a billboard, you need the artist to come out and say it.

  • @RuskeyMafios haha pardon my spelling, I figured that wasn't necesary on YOUTUBE, and Im glad you have the definition of "theory" figured out, youl figure out what the songs about eventually.........just give it time to sink in.

  • @IngloriousBear It means something different to different people.

  • @IngloriousBear i think u guys are mixing up "the story the song is telling" and "why he wrote it". the story is bout a guy that falls in love with a painting on a wall and all that.

the inspiration or the "why he wrote it" could be anything really...like weed or any other thing u guys mention. think bout it yall are both right

  • @elisaac22 I couldn't care less

  • Comment removed

  • Great song! Krazykevin

  • after listening to the song many time its about the goverment(cops) taking away the man rights to paint his mural.. he will defend it at any cost because that is his masterpiece to him HENCE pablo picasso

  • The woman is Graffiti.
