  • Dowwnload the audio from this song at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • ok so i'm only 13 but i love this song because my dad showed me! and it's so catchy! but i prefer Jay and the Americans' version wayyy better

  • @meghanlizadominique Wow, you're 13 and hearing music this old?? That's a good thing. And I respect your opinion and everything...but The Shangris' version is by far my top pick. Just because of its strong sound and the fact that it's about a guy and not a girl, which makes it more unheard of, especially for the time.

  • Rowland S. Howard makes a quite good version too, in fact the first that I heard, followed by Who Can Say, by The Horrors a few years later.

  • It's not really an answer, more like a cover with the gender of the lover changed. This is common in songwriting when different artists cover hits.

  • Definitely prefer the Jay & The Americans version..!

  • Definitely prefer the Jay & The Americans version better..!

  • If you think that the Shaangri Las version is better you better get your hearing checked.I remember the girls version too

  • @ringo244 If you think Jay & The Americans version is better you better get your emotions checked.

  • Don't know where you got the Jay and the Americans soundtrack, but it is so great and the amplification is just perfect: just the way I remember it.

I think that Jays version is better, but that;s just me, I suppose.

  • Sangri Las' version much better. Don't recall ever hearing it before.

  • is the shangri-las version similar the "what's a girl to do?" by Bat for Lashes

  • Love the Myxolydian chord progression on this tune.

  • I agree with a popular music site that states that The Shang's version cut the Jay & Ameicans version to pieces. Can't name the site as UT will delete my post.

  • everyone else has said this but, Faris Badwan took some lyrics and kept them up and awesome! This is awesome and so are The Horrors!

  • shangrilas hands down for me. i'm 43 from england and never heard this song before, but mary's voice just makes me tingle with the lyrics

  • hmm...

Faris nicked the lyrics for Who Can Say :L (L)

  • @exaggeratedhandshake Well, it's not really stealing. A lot of The Horrors music represents the music they listen to. One of the reasons why The Horrors are such an interesting band is coz they do small covers of old music into their music.

  • ah, the horrors take the lyrics from this and put it in 'who can say', i can see why these were faris's (the lead singer) inspiration

  • Mmm. Fine combination, fine memories.

  • wow i never knew shangri las had a response to that song thats awesome

  • Was Jay Black the lead vocalist on this song? This one of my favorite ajY7 the americans songs ..it's this & come a little bit closer

  • Jay Black replaced Jay Traynor in 1963-64. Traynor was the lead on SHE CRIED in 1962.

  • Soap; I aske the question out of curiousity

  • @Soapking1965 Jay Traynor aka Howard Cane & Jay Black is aka David Blatt

  • The Shangri-las are, and shall always be, incredibly awesome. It was truly wonderful to see and hear them perform on TV and radio in 64-66.

  • I first heard this on Rowland S.Howerd's 'Teenage Snuff film' album, but did hear it was a cover version,

also recorded by The Butthole Surfers,The Shangri-Las,Oz Mutantes and Peacock Spleen 9.

  • This is the answer to the jay& the Americans version.... there were a lot of answer songs back then

  • precious thanks
