  • i'm not from us so i have 2 question for u guys

1-doesnt it cost much more than just build another center for kings ?

2-are these guys doing that almost everyday ??

  • Arco Arena is such a dump! I cant wait for the new arena to be built

  • Looks like a lot of people standing around waiting and excess steps throughout. This could use some airspeed if you know what I mean. Process Improvement? 5S? No? Damn you military!!!

  • they must be really good at jigsaw puzzles

  • I've always wondered how this is done. Thank God for youtube

  • How many people work on this project?

  • it;s hilarious how they pull the seats into position :)

  • just a question, How did the hockey players play without boards?

  • woah tht, whatever u call over head thingy (i dont watch basketball often...) looks fake when it comes in at 2:05

  • Cool video and what's this song called?

  • funny how you will see people running around on the seats XD

  • this video is 3 min. but how many time need in the real time to do this?

  • I woud like to ask how often do they do the transformation, weekly, montly or may be twice a year? I am asking this question, because in my country we don`t make such a radical transformation. Fom soccer stadium or athletics hall to concert stage yes, but from ice to basketball, never done.

  • 2:07

    WTF

  • So strange to see the rink and court perpendicular.

  • The guy in the blue/green shirt seems really lazy

  • just like how ants look to us I bet this is how aliens would see us. mindless builders

  • Major flaw in arco arena's design. this is truly a basketball arena. Arco was never built for any type of ice event such as hokey. Cuz the stage is in the wrong place it should be long ways not on the side talking about the stage. Though this is still even with all the drama about being outdated ONE OF THE BEST places in the world to see a basketball game. No Arena in sports gets you closer to the court then arco Great vid. RIP Arco!!!!

  • lol 2:06 scoreboards suddenly drops down :D

  • arco arena is a dump. i mean.......who designs such a small cheesy arena?

  • @germxv

1970s - 80s garbage design. same with the airport.

  • whats interesting is that the rink is turned one way while the court is perpendicular...

  • I remember one game where they had to constantly stop play because the players were slipping all over the place from the condensation on the wood floors laid over the ice.

  • where was the Plexiglas panels for the rink in the beginning?

  • Stupid Sacramento Kings. Miami Heat is Obviously Better.

  • It's a shame that we're not going to be seeing that basketball floor anymore after next season.

  • Too bad it's not even the ARCO arena anymore. Now it's the "Powerbalance arena"

  • Yes, they are the freezer panels

  • @tlapse that is a strange arena. most times the court and the ice go in the same direction. what kind of setup is that? weird

  • @germxv An out-dated one.

  • @germxv Power Balance Pavilion, formerly Arco Arena, is shaped like an octagon, unlike modern arenas which are oval shaped. I don't know if that has anything to do with the way the ice is laid out, but in oval arenas the ice and basketball court has to be laid out in the same direction because of the shape of the building.

  • This probably sounds ignorant/stupid but how are they actually taking the ice off? Do they thin it out layer by layer and then just scrape it off? Im from the uk and just getting into NHL so this is new to me, thanks.

  • @jedimasterjack They melt the ice and pump out the water.

  • @tlapse Thanks man, thats cool, and around the 1.35 mark, it looks like they are stacking white pieces and taking them out? Is that the flooring that the ice forms onto?

  • @jedimasterjack Not in this case.. They break up the ice and shovel it into the trucks..

  • Comment removed

  • @jedimasterjack The kings also have a pretty old arena with more modern arenas the ice is always there they just put an insulated pad over the ice and the put the basketball flooring on top

  • @jedimasterjack they are panels ont the ice so they just remove them and there is the ice

  • @jedimasterjack NHL arenas have freezing equipment permanently embedded in the concrete floor. This video shows a temporary freezing surface suitable for figure skating, but not really hockey.

Shared hockey/basketball arenas usually put a layer of insulated padding over the ice, then install the basketball floor on top of that. They only melt the ice once or twice a year, unless there's a major problem.

  • @jedimasterjack Modern Arenas don't remove the ice. They lay the basketball court on top of it.

  • I have one question ???

Do you stay with your camera ???

  • @RubenCraninx In this case, the camera and computer were in a private box and the door was locked.

  • Now play it in reverse..

  • No wonder why Sacramento, CA needs a new arena. Arco Arena may be a "historic venue" in today's NBA, but it's no "basketball to hockey" arena.

  • i laughed when i saw that this is a kings basketball court.

  • imagine doing this everyday -.-

  • @Jamesznw I would love it! Because not only would I do this, I would also be able to see two great games for FREE and everyday! Imagine, you get paid and you get FREE GAMES!

  • can i watch the kings game 1st then I will hide in the bathroom then watch the lakers game? then hide again in the bathroom then watch clippers game?

  • 2:19 is pretting fucking awesome

  • These really are a joy to watch. Makes you appreciate man's ability to progress.

  • I expected the ice removal to be a little more high tech than "Shovel it into a truck"

  • One thing I noticed thats very strange is the courts face different directions. I don't know any arenas that do this.

  • @Galastin Unlike other arenas were two parallel sides are elongated like a rectangle, all four sides of the stands of Arco are actually pretty symmetrical. The arena is basically a square so the courts can face in different directions.

  • Get taller ! here is the solution " helpo growth formula"

    google it.

  • Is this a permanent change or is it seasonal?

  • @camperjohn6464 its seasonal they do it after each game

  • krass

  • It must take so much organization to pull a transformation like that off.

  • Sweet!

  • the best 3 minutes of my life

  • skating rinks are VERY expensive to maintain

  • dats hot

  • very cool! we have a great time lapse set at the Second Base Youth Shelter in Toronto - turning a rundown parking lot into a basketball court in only one day.

  • 10s-25s - They let the lampies on the ice? Whoa... and by my count they did it in about an hour and a half. Good work!

  • they are way slower than the air canada center

  • @storeflack Air Canada Centre doesn't take out the ice for changeover because an ice user(Mapleleafs) are permanent tenants. Arco arena has no ice tenants just basketball.

  • holy shit dude thats alot of work

  • Now, THATS AWESOME!!!

  • Good job guys! And thanx. We can enjoy sport thanks to them!

  • thats coool...i was wonderin how they did that

  • This is reallty impressive because it is not as ovbious that the arena can support a hockey rink as in other arenas such as the TD garden in Boston and the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

  • amazing!!!!

  • it cool but not amazing you little fuck

  • @RyanHerrboldtTV i'm thinking amazing because i'm brazilian ok?

  • @11ph22il Im sorry I was just having a terrible day sorry i was being such a jerk and i understand that in brazil they dont have big arenas like in america please forgive me

  • @RyanHerrboldtTV good job

  • all nba court are this

    from ice to nba hardwood???

  • Great video, its good to see how they change the floor from hockey to basketball, now i know how its done even though in most cases the arena crew leave the ice down and put something over the ice then the basketball floor.

  • Thats Cool!

  • some places like cover the ice with some time of thing and then put the basketball floor over that that way seems way easyer

  • This should take atlest more than 10 hours.

  • They only use ice at Arco for Disney on Ice/Figure Sating events, which is only about 6-7 days of the year. They make the ice from scratch before each of those events and scrape it up when it's over.

  • That's friggin' wicked. :]

  • i dont get it are they scraping off the ice? or what?

  • the ice is allways there

  • yes. their scraping off the ice. the white is from the planks underneath which I'm guessing to be waterproofed wood with linolium (or some other flooring) on top of it.

  • that's insane!! in a good way

  • COOL

  • Well these guys did it in 3 minutes :D

  • lol

  • @mongo399 uhh no they didnt, its time lapped

  • i think they did this at the staples center in 4 hours one time

  • looks fun

  • I had no idea they could change over that quick! Amazing!

  • 15 hours is not quick lolz

  • 15 hours is about right for this type of setup, however, for a arena with a permanent ice floor, the changeover only takes about 2 hours to complete.

  • a very long process.. i didnt even kno that the seats slide in or out. amazing

  • it must be so frustrating to be one of the people who has to constantly take apart and rebuild this.

  • A lot of arena's hire homeless people, and temps to clean up and do work like this. At least that is how they did things in Houston and New Orleans. I'm sure more cities are the same way.

  • :( i prefer the rink

  • watch it backwords and u can see them build a bascketball cort into an ice ring lol

  • Cool video !

...and what a waste of bloody time...all that man power and all those man hours...unbelievable

  • diosssssss que currada

  • All so some overpaid players can play a game

  • @Qopel

Overpaid? its gifted athletes doing what they do best and if the demand for them is so much why should they not get paid so much?? Its supply vs demand 3rd grade kid...Go back to school. If these 20-24 players attract over 15,000 people to watch them why not?

  • @adi1096 What are they making? What are they good for society? NOTHING. They are scoring useless points that don't matter, don't save lives, don't create food or shelter and don't create new medicines. USELES.

  • @Qopel I guess providing entertainment to millions of people is not a meaningful job? How old are you?

  • @marsfb88 It's meaningless...and so is my age

  • Impressive!

  • i don't know what they're doing before 1:30 ....

  • looked like a gaggle of ants ^^

    cool video!!!

  • can someone take me through on how exactly they do it?

  • just watch the video smartass

  • thats like wooow!!!

  • fuckin magic

  • It happened once when the ice started melting on the court during a hornets game I remember

  • Just great , man !

  • COOL

  • Niccceee thanks for the vid man :) (or woman)

  • that is awesome!

  • thats insane...

  • That's amazing.

  • i lik the vid its so cool but i hate the kings!

  • Incredible

  • how many days?

  • says in description 15hours : )

  • Thats the dumbest thing I've seen. Every NHL arena leaves the Ice there permanently and lays rubber mats over it to put the basketball court on. They don't tear up the ice every single time!

  • Arco Arena isnt an NHL Arena. It is a basketball arena, that can convert for concerts and Ice Shows. It is more cost efficient to Set up Ice for the 5-7 Days out of the year that they hold these type of events.

  • I paused at the very beginning. Looked like figure skating, with the lights shining down on them. The coolest video on youtube, other than "American West - True HD"

  • loved it!

  • this video is great i always wonder how they change the arena floor and now i know thanks for the video (tlapse).

  • what was that ice for? and why such a strange setup?

  • maybe for ice hockey ? dunno

  • I dont know exactly but it looks like it was a "Disney on Ice" type show. Definitely not Hockey.

  • THIS IS WAY TO EXPENSIVE!!

  • It would cost more to setup and maintain a whole new arena plus costs for the land.

Why use more space when you can just do this.

  • Hmm, they should build a hockey arena, if they always change the field, that costs too much.

  • oh its not going from a hockey game

  • Great video, what software did you use to pan around the video?

  • LAKERS!!!!!

  • Thats a fucked way to do a changeover. Usually all the ice stays under the court and a layer of fiberglass is put down

  • youre kidding me right? youve never seen it done before.

  • Whoa, thats .. much job lol

  • the description said f"from 15 minutes to 3 minutes" I want to coorect them that if they were to estimate into 4 minutes instead.

  • the description said 15 HOURS and who cares....

  • cool

  • nice

  • what a pain in the ass lol nice vid

  • I always wondered how they prepped the floors after hockey games---thanks for the post!!

Are there refrigerated coils under the floor or something like that?

  • wow man this video rocks i love it

  • Impressive! The quality is great as well! I'm glad Youtube allows this kind of quality now.

  • very cool and the music is awesome

  • cool! :D how long did u stand there with ur camera :D ??

  • awesome! (..and educational! haha)

  • thats awesomde

  • u would get plenty more views, if you put in the title "True HD"!!!! tahtws wat i do

  • Very nice! I like the movement to frame it out...good stuff!

  • The worlds biggest/easyest puzzle

  • some people just stand and watch the others working. lol

  • in HD it looks amazing!

  • wow yur right

  • that's so cool.

i bet this movie will get more than 1 milion views in a while...

  • 1 million views, that would be cool

  • cool music! and that skating rink was bigger than it looked :O it's interesting to see how they lay down each panel that make up the court.

  • Search on "brokenkites" to find more of his music

  • I love these! So cool.:)

  • Wow - that's an incredible amount of work.
