Love this video, love the gyros. Every single romance I write lately seems to start with a trip out the I-15 through Baker for Gyros... Did you notice the pernicious use of Michelangelo's David? So far as I know neither of them was Greek...
The history is a long and bumpy road but i can say when the first owner and his dear wife ran the place, and the other Mad Greeks before Baker, the food (and environment ) was superb. Now I read that Mad Greek sold to a group of Mexicans and that would certainly explain why its run down hill. Really too bad. The food was huge, authentic and stupendous. And not expensive either. What a shame!
in greece we never rap gyro in aluminiun foil..always with paper used for cooking also only in southern greece they put tzatziki. in nothern greece it's optional and they put ketsap and mustard instead. potatos and tomatos are the other ingredience used for makeing gyros.
can you tell me if the tzaziki a the mad greek uses dill or mint? i t hink its dill and ive been trying to replicate their sauce since forever but i cant get it right
They don't dip gyros in tzatziki here in Greece... :P They put tzatziki in the pita in the first place - and the tomato... they never put letuce in the pita!!.. Just go to the guy over there and tell him you want "Mea peta gyro, ntomata kremmidi tzatziki, aektos an aehes tirokafteri!" (One gyro with onions, tomatoes and tzatziki, but i would prefer tirokafteri instead of tzatziki if there is any).
I ask for tzatziki on the side, and "dip" it because that way I get more in each bite, and that way, the sauce doesn't drip all over me.. :) Just a personal preference... And I am with you on the lettuce.. :)
