Her music is incredible, but as a lead singer her voice is just too dry for the emotion going on in the instrumentation.

Look up a group called Kardes Turkuler, if your interested in the daf. They use this sort of percussion a lot, they sing in many different languages mainly from the middle east, they are pretty cool.

I always liked Mar...with Glen. I loved The Swell Season, I loved the songs she wrote back then. But the songs on 'Anar' are not really my thing. I do like this performace though (as I always like Tiny Desk Concerts). Still don't know what to think of her solo stuff.

It's called a Daf. It's a Kurdish drum.
