Wow this sounds like our Carribean May Pole in Nica. But ofcourse without the influence of the Afro-Drums. Same Meaning just different style and music
Fine.. a renaissance and baroque concert for children´s use under the maypole. Twice each Henry Purcell and William Byrd among the tunes ! Up to 0:25 "Hole in the Wall" by Purcell, following by "The Soldier´s Delight" (attributed to Byrd) up to 0:56; from 1:06 to 1:29 "Lilli Burlero" by Purcell, and the highllight comes at the end: from 2:08 to 2:23 "The Carman`s Whistle" by William Byrd. Please search at least for the last tune here at YouTube to enjoy the wonderful original version !!!
Additional: The last tune is the version named "Jamaica" from Playford 1670. But my first statement was not wrong: the tune has a history in itself, and contains as 2nd part "The Carman´s Whistle".
hmm... i've noticed that in almost of all of those Balentanes or Maydays the little girls are almost always wearing long skirts and cloths with light colors
Its a possibility, but what is sad if most british people don't care. I'm half english half greek and i really do care. I will celbrate these traditions just for the sake of keeping them alive, I just hope other people will do the same and not be embarressed of their own culture, know what i mean? too many people think these things are "sad" but its not fair on the future generations to give them up:(
Its great to see those keeping the Pagan traditions alive in the British countryside. We need to keep the spirit alive. The queen of the May's magic is in all nature.
these are so much more fun when u dont know how to do them XD
I know this from experience lolz
