  • At first when I saw the name "Brutal Mario", I was expecting some n00b hack filled with munchers, invisible coin blocks, and dickish jumps. I could not have been more wrong.

  • SirRon would scoff at this...

  • that quickdraw thing was fucking cool :D

  • The level's name is "Tabi Nomi(ha/wa)ji Mari"...

  • That reminds me, I can probably read/interpret the level names now!

The level name is "Tabi no hajimari," which roughly means the start of a journey. Kinda reminds me of "Adventure Starts" from TSRP, since it basically means the same thing. I imagine the 'mari' is not next to the 'haji' because only the 'haji' would be written in Kanji.

    To the change title/description screen!

  • Now that I think about it, yes, its No Hajimari, since Haji is the word and the No is the particle. Good luck man!

  • @AxemJinx Mari and haji are not next to each other because the dots above ji are counted as one character. The same happens after tabi.

  • @Guardian016 Oh, the rendaku? Yeah, that makes sense.

  • @AxemJinx It's not about rendaku. The screen cannot fit one character and its dots together in one space because of the limited capacity there. If you type it here, it can be たびのはじまり.

  • @Guardian016 Oh, I think I was misappropriating the term. I understood what you were saying, though :p

  • I want to play this game!

Do you know how to download this game?

  • i beated bowser xD

  • I love Quick Draw.

  • The bonus is same to Kirby! LOL

  • jeje bonus of kirby

  • I'm looking for the download page about this game!

  • just go to google

  • that looks easy :3

  • This game has an incredible ASM.

  • 1:25, Luigi?

  • kaizo mario looks to be alot harder

  • thats because it was developed by sadists. this game was more an example of the extent of change that can be achieved with assembly, though considering the guy involved in making it designed content for vip mario, it isn't a suppsise how sadistic ig gets... if your curious, check out the koopa kids boss

  • Hm that doesn't look brutal o_o

But nice level design and gameplay.

  • Awesome hack! :)

  • I wonder what's so "brutal" about it. I was expecting something more like kaizo mario or SM Frustration, but instead what we get is a hack of SMW with different and nice backgrounds that look a lot like Yoshi's Island.

    anyway, nice going =)

  • Originally I had intended to make several videos of this hack, but that never ended up happening. This is actually the plainest level in the game. Subsequent levels use a variety of impressive ASM hacks that, for instance, stop time via p-switches or change the level palette in-game.

I'm sure there's a reason for the title, even if, from my experience, it's nothing like kaizo mario or similarly-styled hacks.

  • this hack creator has alot of ASM knowlege for being able to make brutal boss battles

  • The actual title is Brute King Mario. The plot is that Mario becoming King of the Mushroom Kingdom, but doing a terrible job at it, and lots of people want him overthrown.

As far as I know, at least.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes.

One question...Is it an smc file or a patch file?

A great emulator to use is Snes9x or ZSNES

  • nvm i got it working

i just had to get a clean rom (which is hard these days) and patch it, btw im using Snes9x

but its hard to play on a keyboard...cant seem to time the jumps right...

  • There is a logitech controller that is bout 20dollars and it looks like a playstation controller

  • really?

    Where at? walmart? gamestop?

  • you could try either wallmart, circuit city or best buy.

  • yea u need an emulator i play this on the emulator on my psp

  • the bounus level is like quick draw from kirby!

  • Kaizo Mario tbh :P

  • The thing about burtal mario is that the levels are boaring, but the bosses are very fun.

  • So, Mario saves the princess, then he becomes ruler of Mushroom Kingdom. He gets lazy and tyrannical and a sort of a brute. He proceeds to go onto a quest to fix his mentality. My memory is fuzzy but that is how I remember it as. I know for 100% that the brute refers to Mario's personality after rescuing Peach for the first time.

  • The reason its called Brutal Mario lies within the storyline in the game. Although if one were to play it, most likely they wouldn't understand due to the Japanese language being the sole source of language that is transmitting the player the information. However I do recall reading somewhere that the storyline goes something like this (though I don't remember it word for word nor where I found it. Continued in next post due to approach of character limit)

  • That's a really neat bonus stage!

  • ´brutale mario?! this is damn easy lvl lol your kiddin me

  • its mainly the boss's tht are hard its crazy ass fuck cause like monsters from final fantasy games come out and kirby and alot of diffrent game monster come out but thts later in the game

  • i want this hack BAD o, wat version of windows do u need 2 play it?

  • ................this is hard?....in what way?

  • I'm not sure whether the title of the hack is really referring to difficulty...but remember this is the first stage in the game. Not all hard hacks immediately start with hard levels.

  • thats not what he wanted to know. he wanted to know what version of windows is this.

  • this shit is childs play. Woohoo no save states, grow a pair

  • I include "No savestates were used" in the description wherever it applies, just to be clear. But you're right, this level doesn't really require it.

  • Why would you need save states? That level looked really easy...

  • GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • that star lasts a long time.

  • kevin ollie much?

  • thats tight is it a snes hack or gameboy?? and to find it i just look up brutal mario??

  • i played this hack if you need ROM instant message joeg1992 i can file transfer it for you

  • ...what makes this hard???

  • where did you get this? and dont say GOOGLE!

  • GOOGLE!

    lol teehee

  • googlegooglegooglegooglegooglegoogle

    googlegooglegooglegooglegooglegoogle

    googlegooglegooglegooglegooglegoogle

    googlegooglegooglegooglegooglegoogle

  • Wow...

There is a lot of time put into this hack...

  • it not on any system it on a computer and this is a hacked mario game you have to download it

  • what system did this come out for?

  • has anyone heard of Asshole Mario? I have! search 4 it here and u'll probably like it.

  • What's brutal about it?

  • What was the point of this video and why does it have a 4.5 star rating?

  • I am wondering about the same ^^

  • More importantly, why does it have so many comments?

I was planning to do more Brutal Mario videos, but I never got around to it. So, right now I only have a video of the least exciting level in the game. Maybe sometime in the future I'll post more.

Seriously though...there are hundreds of levels that deserve the amount of comments/etc. this video is getting.

  • this was brutal how?

  • Look at the rest of it. It gets hard.

  • oh sorry

  • the level itself looks more like yoshis island...

  • The minigame looks like that game where whoever presses the button first when the exclamation mark appears win. Quick draw, I think.

  • esta bueno llo tengo el juego a yegue a las 99 vidas y tambien tengo el super mario 3 hay ise un truco para llegar al wordl 8-1

  • Whats up with the random minigame at the end?

  • nice level, but i don't see what's so brutal about it

  • huh

  • yay for Kirby Rip-off mini-game!

  • lol Samurai Mario

  • where did you get this i need to LP it!

  • how to play this :|

  • similar to lots of hacks, like kaizo, but the bonus stage was unlike anything i had ever seen before

  • i dont see how its brutal but nice bonus game

  • You would eat your words once you get to world two....

  • This is pathetic compared to kaizo including world two. Two is cake

  • kaizo was made by 2 pros, this was made by a single , not so pro, but come on, theres donkey kong bosses in this hack, its yoshis island graphics, and graphics from other games, i guess this one isnt for difficulty, but for fun, and looks

  • I'm having a bit of a problem. I patched the IPS, but instead of going to the world map, it just goes to the bonus part (where you swordfight the Koopa Troopa, Chargin' Chuck, and Bowser). When it's done, I can't get out.

  • Also, I'm using zSNES.

  • I want this hack. If it's real

  • is this lunar magic cuase then how do u have coustom bosses and how u change GFX ( Sry im a newb to lunar magic)

  • the gfx were hacked differently. no lunar magic

  • i try downloading it and if i try to play it on Snes9x it doesn't work

  • The level name is Journey's Beginning.

  • cool game wish i could play

  • The Bonus is like Kirby... Hahaha

  • lOl funny bonus game

  • its like samuri kirby

  • This looks like one very cool game. Like how the hacker added an entirely new bonus game.

  • how is this hard

  • where can i download this hack?

  • This looks really tame compared to kaizo mario...or rather, actually playable by normal humans :-D

  • brutal mario doesnt look too brutal

  • I like the minigame where you cut people's heads off. XD

  • me too lol looks like a kirby gba game i had

  • It made me think of anime... even though I hate anime... still a cool game. It's wierd to think of how the minigame would work, though... maybe you have to push a button once the red "!" comes up.

  • lol i don't like anime either except DBZ

the mini-game is sort of like a ninja cowboy duel(ya know ten steps then you fight)

  • Yeah, not seeing any steps, though... but I guess it's a bit like that. It'd be fun to fight that way in real life... you both slash and then see which one falls apart in a couple seconds. =O

  • lol

  • Hey, I found that Kirby game you were talking about... you sure it wasn't for SNES? (although a remake of the game I'm talking about is coming out for DS soon)

  • its from kirby superstar on the SNES. there was asimilar minigame. they even used the same sprites with the !

  • can i get this game please ?

  • the sword thing was something like from a kirby mini-game, wasnt it?

  • snes9x emulator

  • I have the rom but what emulator do i use?

  • the samuri minigame is from kirby lol.

  • w00t at the samurai minigame

  • The thing at the end was weird

  • brutal

  • wheres brutal?

i just replyed to it! :P

  • Wow!!! That looks extremly fun, especially the sword mini game at the end!

  • Oh, the minigame...

  • Well aside from that, this seems to be the only level in the game that really has no asm hacks in it.

  • I don't get the point.

  • hmmm?.... a new project?

    looks pretty good axem

  • No no, not mine, I'm just demoing a couple of levels from this one.

  • oh ok

  • how do you edit the overworld?

how do you insert custom music?

I need help with ExGFX. How come when I load ExGFX, it doesn't look like the GFX i inserted. Like instead of a desert laybrinth i get some grassy land. SOMEONE HELP ME! IM SO CONFUSED!

  • the bonus game is from kirby super star!!

  • how do you get this???

  • How the fuck do you get Yoshi's Island textures?

  • lol, is this the first hack you've ever seen?

  • I think so.

  • Hey, I think I know a bit of the info box at 1:19, it has something to do with getting 100 coins to get a 1UP! :D

  • Actually, I think it has more to do with getting 100 bonus points to enter the bonus game, just based on the fact that it's right next to the exit.

  • This is indeed a very nice hack with lots of surprises, especially in the second half. I love the Seiken Densetsu 3 boss with the three heads near the end. I agree that this hack sometimes seems a bit unbalanced, but overall I think it's fun and definetely one of the best out there.

  • Wait a minute. This isnt "Brutal Mario" this is some other hack, hmm I got this one.

  • yeah this hack is crazy, I love the secret of mana 2 levels and bosses near the end. They simply amaze me.

  • *is intrigued*

  • Nice man. 5/5 just curious but could you do a speed run of Death Trap Zone from TSRP2? If you can't I understand but thank you in advance if you can.

  • it was too easy. i didn't like the bonus game that much. may i post the next level of this game?

  • o.O It's the first level...Sure, post the next one. I don't post videos based on what others have up anyway...
