  • They threw away the mold after this one.

  • he aged really well! holy shit

  • Levon Helm - greatest drummer in the history of rock. Ringo is good, Keith Moon is great, Levon Helm surpasses them all.

What other drummer sings?! He still has a great smile and a smile in his eyes. A true legend!

  • Find" Mystery train" in YouTube performed by Paul Butterfield and Levon Helm. He was fantastic drummer and singer ...

  • 8 dislikes? What the hell? 8 dislikes? Jesus, what do you want? Go outside, start walking, when you get to the sea, keep going. Assholes.

  • What is it called?-Levon:Rock `n Roll !!

  • Bless his heart. So glad to have him still with us.

  • Well said BoozehammerofGalerm Levon's quite a guy Would love to spend the day with him just to hear him talk and make music

  • Levon is awesome, but who is the tard that doesn't know the difference between comprise and compromise?

  • What an inspiration . Thanks for this so much

  • Hey thats the guy in shooter!

  • Lol the CBS logo is an eye. This program is called "Eye to Eye". More illuminati references than I feel like taking in.

  • oh man, it breaks my heart to know that all good things must pass....

  • All the best to Levon Helm, great person and player, an attitude that is the way it should be.

  • Levon is the man. Saw him last year at a small amphitheatre at the Minnesota Zoo. Wonderful show. He's an awesome drummer. The band he's playing with now is incredibly strong.

  • I love his humility!!!

  • Look for him in "Shooter" as the ex-CIA spook, terrific little cameo.

  • @Syncroincity "Still got the shovel"

  • One of my favorite musicians

  • Just saw him 2 days ago at a Ramble. What a treat. Singing or not. (he did a little). He's a joy to watch and be in the presence of and one hell of a drummer with a style that's all his own. And the rest of his band....... he always surrounded himself with the best.

  • He was brilliant in 'Shooter.'

  • That's what a fantastic human being looks and sounds like. Bless you, Levon Helm

  • Dio lo benedica, davvero...

  • What's up with this interviewer?! It's Levon Helm man

  • I'm so fortunate to see him live, and was able to shake his hand. I don't care what anyone thinks, but I feel that even his voice now is classic. It's probably because Levon is such a talented and soulful singer that his voice can carry regardless of it being raspy. You're the best Levon!

  • THANK GOD LEVON'S WITH US!! THe way he says music reminds me of Elvis and Buddy H and the rest of the greats

  • Geez, who the hell was the sound guy? The interviewer's mic had a hum to it, time to replace that cable I guess.

  • Levon is a miracle and we're so grateful for it. Amen to the God blessing of Levon!

  • Levon, I'm so Happy for you ...you've been through hell. Your a brave and talented man. Your music, Your voice , Your drumming is so awesome to watch and hear. I think your the best I've seen. When i watch a video of The Band I have to watch it over and over....Can't get enough! God Bless You and Yours.

PS...I love your voice. It's not that often you see a drummer that can actually sing Great like You....

    God Bless you Levon

  • Recognize him from the Mark Walberg movie - 'Shooter'? Played the guy in the cabin that gave advice on paper-wrapped bullets.

  • @deledlightsolutions

Wow. I never would have known that. I'm a The Band fan. Geeze!!!

  • Long live Levon. Amazing singer and drummer from the best band ever. Long live The Band!!!

  • Wonderful story! And a wonderful man of music!

  • Levon is the Ultimate Drummer of all time In MY opinion . His vocals were awsome too! Just watching his expressions as he drummed were thrilling!! You can see how much he loved his Profession.

  • It never gets old, listening to Levon sing, play or just talk. Keep it a-coming....

  • Well I love his voice, it's one of the best

  • Levon Helm is the man, I just want to give him a big hug

  • What an incredible sweet man, makes me love him even more :)

  • Aw first I heard of this, God Bless you Levon and good wishes for a lasting recovery

  • Probably Robbie Robertson "disliking"...lol..

  • Ive seen him several times this year god bless Levon and his family. What a wonderful person and entertainer.

  • People who hit dislike are a very sad lot thats for sure, they must live in their little sad sad world, Levon is a true Gentleman all the boys in the Band were nice Blokes, Magical Music.

  • Welcome back Levon

  • legend

  • The members of The Band are all excellent musicians....Robbie, Rick, Levon, Richard and Garth..The Last Waltz is a classic..

  • just watched The Last Waltz on DVD and wondered where are The Band members now?..and voila!...luv to see him play the drums, he is one of my influences since I play drums, too..more power, Levon....

  • @rrnc5lmce where are they now? richard manual (pianist) hung himself in 1986. rick danko (bassist) died from heart failure, and garth hudson is still active though not as much as levon. robbie is a rich music supervisor for dreamworks who on occasion makes progressively worse sounding solo albums (though his first two were pretty damn good)....there you go.

  • @Putaspellonyou thanks a lot for the info, friend...

  • I agree fuck Robbie----- He's not shit without the Band---- ever hear him sing--ouch-

  • fuck robbie robertson. The first time the rest of The Band knew the Last Waltz was going to be the last Band show ever was when Buck Henry introduced them on Snl only a month before the show. and Roberston kept everyone out of the licensing of the songs and the movie rights. He cheated everyone in the Band out of money. Levon Helm speasks the truth. Preach On Levon.

  • @MrTfoust87 The Band had been together years, & guys build up irritations when they are traveling & working together for years. Robbie was stuck w/ a bunch of serious addicts besides the usual tensions. Robbie has stated the other guys helped out some with arrangements but not lyrics, & arrangements are worth very very little in publishing. The other guys haven't sued him either. You can publish a bitter book with selective facts and unproven claims, but court requires ability to back up claims.

  • @MrTfoust87 Levon and the others screwed up their own lives a lot. When you look back at a drugged out mess and you have no money left you want someone to blame, and the ex-colleague who is successful happy and healthy is an obvious target for bitterness and resentment.

  • he was in the movie the shooter.

  • Love this man but he speaks lies, lies, lies. His book was based on some crazy made up conspiracies in his head.

Lots of people drinking his koolaid.

  • I agree. seems bitter and jealous. it's like move on. be gracious like Robertson. Just play some music

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful musician but Levon's book is full of lies and delusion.

  • LEVON ES UN CAMPEON!

  • A true legend and inspiration god bless Mr Helm

  • ole levon has always been a man of wisdom and always will be

  • "Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble Show's are a Must see "

  • @startrek19591 He did act in Shooter, one of mye favourite scenes btw

  • God bless you, Levon. You are still the best of the best!

  • @The liberalsuck: Helm was working with Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawksin the 50sw and early 60's in and around Toronto, Ontario. I never heard this story about him evading the draft as he spent most of his time in Canada. If it's true, I'm dissapointed in him. See my comments to you on the post with the the Band at the Canadian Juno awards. I screwed up your name. Sorry.

    Ken, Toronto

  • I've always loved Levon Helm. He seems like such a down to earth person. There never seems to be any pretense coming across when he speaks. He's good people and it comes through. I'm so glad to hear to that he's recoverinh and doing well. Peace.

  • What a TALENT!! I have always loved this man!

  • That cancer looks like it dogged him bad, he looks sick..

  • For a guy who doesn't much like the sound of his own voice, he has one of the greatest I've ever heard in my life. When he sings, he really brings it.

  • God bless Levon Helm...

  • levon helm wow. im 24 and he is one of my favorites. he's a true artist

  • You can't blame Robertson for ending the Band when no one was showing up anymore. People speak to things when they don't have the full story. Robertson was also a producer on the film and did more work than any of the guys and not to mention he was the lead guitarist and closer in proximity to most of the featured performers. Jealousy is a very UGLY characteristic.

  • @Schashey Thank you for saying Exactly what i was about to type/say, YES~! He's a Legend in his own time~! ♥The Band

  • I go to school with his nephew! I live in Lamar, Arkansas, and he's got family here.

  • Katie looks like a guy lately

  • fuckin love this man's voice

  • One of the greatest voices ever, and a down home guy as well. He says he's not in love with his voice, well I am.

  • Audio is awful

  • beautiful soul

  • I have so much respect for this man, can't be expressed in words.

  • He still plays live at his pad in Woodstock. The, "Midnight Ramble" sessions, I believe.

  • He considers himself the drummer? Yes great drummer, every stroke contributes something to the song. But his is one of the great voices of rock, what a humble man. We can all learn something from his talent and humility.!

  • one of the best singers around! and what drummer! wow! rock on mr. Helm! :-)

  • What a talent and what a wonderful man. He's right he is the drummer, emphasis on the. I've heard it said to hear him drum live brings tears to your eyes. Way to go Levon!!

  • I loved him in "The Right Stuff."

  • she loves to give head...

  • iv met him and been to his house

  • Who the HELL are this people who click "dislike" on this? God Bless, Levon.

  • @KarlaMay terrorist's

  • @KarlaMay They be morons!

  • @KarlaMay ...they are stupid people just ignore them! This man is a wonderful example of how a person can overcome! God bless you Levon!

  • @KarlaMay robbie robertson fans thats who!

  • @scrumbulent I signed up to youtube just to tell you that you're garbage buddy. This is a man talking about overcoming a disease and you have that kind of disrespect? You're f'ing doo doo pal, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

  • @MrJimroche dude i was talking about robbie robertson your ignorant asshole. i love helm and this interview is inspirational. go read yoru history buddy and youll find robertson and helm didnt get along well at all and robertson even blamed richard manuel's suicide on helm its bs. i love helm so those dislike are the garbage not me,. stop starting trouble for no reason like half of the people who troll youtube comments to try and make themselves feel better. your garbage

  • I wish he was my grandpa.

  • God bless Levon. I LOVE Dirt Farmer and Electric Dirt as well as his stuff with The Band

  • I love The Band, but revisiting the Last Waltz the outsized egos of many of the rock stars take part, really put me off. Their first two albums will stand for all time and I can still listen to them, they never wear out.

  • Saw him last night and although he wasn't singing as much due to recent vocal chord lesion removal he did do "Ophelia" and part of "I Shall Be Released", but his joyful drumming and mandolin playing remained as energetic as ever. His band is just full of talented folks and they did Levon (and The Band) proud. He is the quintessential Americana artist!

  • What a mensch! They don't make 'em like that anymore! God bless the man! Hope I can go to the Midnight Ramble next year...we'll see...

  • I'm in theater and I have to play an old man. Totally basing the character on him haha

  • glommed a great word.....you don't hear it much anymore

  • Great artist musician singer. A Legend in his own time.

  • God bless this man. Saw him yesterday. He is the consummate showman.

  • Levon Helm the man !

  • wonderful dude..was an actor too was in THE RIGHT STUFF..

  • @chiledoug He also had a role in the movie titled 'Shooter' with Mark Wahlburg.

  • @shilo901 COAL MINERS DAUGHTER ALSO

  • @shilo901 He was also in that Tommy Lee Jones movie "The Three Burials etc..." cast as a blind man.

  • This true legend will be guaranteed his place in history, and he will be right up there with the best of the best.Outstanding man and player. All hail Levon Helm. ^bows^

  • Right on

  • One of the most underated muscian in the history of rock and roll.

  • y is the sound quality when Levon Helm speaks so much better than when Anthony Mason does?

  • Did the interviewer Anthony Mason actually say "...each one (compromising) a period of how long?" How do these folks get their jobs?

  • WHAT A GENTLEMAN. Where have all the gentlemen gone?

I see he has chosen wisely his sentimentality. He knows whats important, and doesn't harp on every mile marker. I wish to be as level headed someday.

Mr. Helm, I wish you and yours nothing but the best.

    Thanks for sharing,

    -b- KCMO

  • Levon... you DAH MAN!!!

  • What a gracious man.

    Legend.

Now, I know why I kept listening for all these years!

God be with him and bless him!

(And none of his movies were all that bad!)

  • He's a damn good actor also.

  • Bless Levon. My God...he does not see himself as a vocalist - he sang some of the best songs ever...The Weight, The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down.....

  • @rpdugoni Up On Cripple Creek!

  • Levon is the MAN!!! Soooo happy you uploaded this interview! The sound of The Helm will live on forever!!

  • He's so sweet...

  • God Bless That Man

  • time to give this man a kennedy center honor or something major like that....

  • i can't get over how much older he looks here as compared to the 70s and 80s. but he's still alive and well enough and that's what's counts.

  • Just saw him at the Edmonton Folk Festival ... one of the most powerful, perfect evenings I've ever had. The man has magic. Always has.

  • I saw Levon and his band last night. Magical.

  • This man is a national treasure and I am so happy to have discovered his music at a young age. Thank you sir. Lets here some more new stuff :)

  • Man, I love The Band

  • A total musical stud.

  • Levon Helm and the rest of The Band are truly amazing. I can never get tired of their music. Everytime I watch The Last Waltz I wish I could of been there with them and all the other great artists that were able to have been there and also played with them. They were one band that never got all the credit they deserved.

  • I hope everyone realizes that one more day with Levon Helm still making music is truly a gift.......

  • Keep on sangin' Levon.

  • It is always a joy to meet people as sincere and authentic as Levon Helm. And what a double blessing that a personality as warm as this had been coupled with a collection of amazing talents.

He is deserving of all the success and contentment that life can offer.

  • my man levon. what an inspiration. the smile is genuine. awesome truly an like the person before me said an American classic.

  • ebron - agreed!

  • God bless you Levon, keep going my man. kevery12 it is Levon's belief that God helped him, perhaps you should try a little big of that yourself and stop calling people old coots.

  • Now I don't know about all the god blessing stuff but for some reason i like this old coot hope he lives the remainder of his life happy.

  • God bless Levon Helm!

  • A great talent. wonderful singer, wonderful musician.. talented actor. we are blessed to have him in the world!!!

  • one of the best voices in the business...

  • It would be realy cool if Levon buddied up with tallest man on earth

  • @lostbuffalo That would simply be amazing

  • Cool

  • Great man

  • Mr. Helm is true gentlemen and a music icon, a inspiration to all. God bless him. he is a class act if there ever was one!

  • @startrek19591 yes he is

  • @startrek19591 ...He is a draft dodger. Is he a good musician? Yes. Do I like his music? Yes. Do I like his singing voice? Yes. Is his dodging service in the military for his country an inspiration to all? No.

  • He's as cool a person as he is a musician. Classy.

  • What a joy he is.

  • everybody thinks they're cool cause they everything about the Band. STFU and watch the damn video

  • Thanks for posting this, it's made my day to have watched it! Levon Helm seems such a humble man. He has a grace that many musicians sadly lack IMO. I saw The Band when they toured Australia in 1986, but they had lost Richard by then, and Robbie stayed at home, and as good as they were that night, I'm positive it would have been so much better had Robbie & Richard been with them. RIP Richard Manuel and Rick Danko. Play well and play often Levon!

  • Humble, appreciative and Class personified. Levon Helm. Respect earned, not demanded. Todays 5 minute, one hit, human trash reality punks, take heed. You'll be forgotten 5 minues after your freak show cancels.

  • how could you not like this guy? Wished I could meet him.

  • And people don't like this guy, stick it to em'! Keep on rockin'

  • thanks for such beautiful music over the years levon...

  • "Ain't it for my health" a new documentary is coming out soon about this brilliant musician.

  • He may consider himself a drummer first, but he's actually a very good singer..

"The night they drove old dixie down" is my personal favourite, but "The weight" is also a great one.

  • Have a stick of Beechum bro.

  • Such a pity about losing his voice to cancer - one of the world's greatest singers.

  • @Stevieboy130664 he didn't lost his voice to cancer bud

  • @Harryhoodz

I meant his ability to sing - he was one of the great white rock/soul singers

  • The interviewer is an ASS

  • I love Levon helm...his music and on film...he was great as Loretta's Father, and he was also in the Doll Maker (A Jane Fonda movie) it was really good...

  • what great man levon helm,,, robbie robertson destroyed the band , god bless ya brother glad your still around

  • Go and see Levon if you ever have an opportunity!

  • you, the drummer?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! oh my god! i love him. you have a better voice than 99% of any front man that exists!!! genius. i am really sorry for his bad time with cancer. thanks science!!! |o|

  • My Hero!!!!

Warmth and Love from the house by the sea.

    Bosse Saxell

  • Levon, Thank you!! Thank you for your wonderful music, your passion and your real human qualities and your everlasting groove!!

  • I'm only 12 but i absolutely love the band and the history of this band. The Last Waltz is the greatest movie of all time

  • @smslts youve got good taste in music kid... now go get a guitar and play it till your fingers bleed and make wise choices in life :)

  • @smslts Good on you! I agree wholeheartedly

  • @smslts the last waltz was a horrible movie for me to watch. the end of the band caused by robertson is far from great. read up and youll see that noone in the band wanted to do the last waltz and scorsese and robertson just kept pushing it forward. if you notice 75 percent of the movie is robbie robertson

  • @derekgiannone I dont think Robbie Robertson treated the other members of the band right. He made plans and got himself set up pretty good before he pulled the plug on The Band. I dont know the entire story, but in my opinion what he did was not fair to the others. Also my opinion working with limited knowledge, Robertson should have spread post "The Band" wealth among The Band members more evenly. Each of them contributed to their successs. Different mucisians would not have been as successful.

  • @smslts 12? That is awesome! Keep on the same track you are on little guy. You definitley have great taste in music.

  • he got horse

  • Im 22 australian and levon helm is extremely AWESOME ELECTRIC DIRT rules and on vinyl record sounds beautiful
