  • @lulnafringe10 - she's not American Indian, but i believe she's Mexican-American

  • is she an american indian woman?

  • funny, because she married 3 years later. didn't work out so well though, go fig.

  • @Mimiandjoaniebaez

Talking about my mom, this is funny because, well, you see, sb in a movie said that people how make things by the millions and billions each year for many decades and more decades to come don't necessarily make those things far better than other people on a small scale of number, as McDonald's doesn't necessarily make better burgers than your mom just because of AN ADVANTAGE OF ROUTINE AND NUMBERS and KNOW HOW and stuff like that. That remark made me smile, because TRUE!!!

  • @Mimiandjoaniebaez

    THE PROVERB GOES LIKE THIS:

""And be aware that you are unique, just like anybody else!!""

But the way she is unique, is definetely unique!!! I remember a Dutch comedian, badmouthing against woman that they all wanna be considered unique and irreplacable, but that desire is exactly what women share together by the millions and billions WORLD-WIDE. Everybody wants to be considered unique by the crowd, even terrorists and school killers and comedians and politicians etc

  • Obrigado pelos belos videos desta que foi uma grande lutadora dos Direitos Humanos e contra as arbitrariedades dos governos mundiais. Deus Salve a Rainha JOAN BAEZ

  • Hermoso, verdadero, como un manantial de agua clara.

  • Mi megtanultunk angolul.. megérte, egy ilyen dal csak gyarapíthatja a mi kultúránkat, Ti is tanuljatok magyarul, az sem semmi....

  • Joan has beauty where it counts, the inside.

And the courage to speak out against what she saw as wrong.

Most people just take the easy route, not this one.

  • omg.. she looks like bob dylan.. and bob dylan looks like joan baez in those old clips.. pure soul

  • Great song. Joan had one of the most beautiful voice of the 1960's.

    lol I'm anti-marriage too.

  • You forget just how wonderful and pure she was, right from the start...

  • always makes me cry...so ,so true

  • Sie spricht mir aus der Seele!

  • I love her she is so awesome.

  • This was performed that same year that Bob Dylan married Sarah Lownds...a little slap in the face for Bob, no? I've always been a big BD fan, but she outshines him by far with this tune.

  • So effortless and beautiful.

  • she has a fantastic voice.

  • Is there a cure for marriage allergy -?

  • I think the respose before mine said it all. her eyes tell such a story during the singing I found myself wondering the circumstances surrounding the writing of the song and the pain, especially the pain...

  • I just got inside info. that Joan Baez is scaling the number of shows she does way down starting 2011,I suggest if you want to see Joan in a live concret, you better get to it. My wife and I are traveling 1500 miles to be in her presents this fall, and I'm already looking forward to being there.

  • wow her voice!!!

  • Wow. I got goose bumps & I don't like Joan.

  • This woman was HOT! Dylan must have been stoned (and threatened!) when he broke up with this talented, and gorgeous lady! Joan didn't hide her bitterness, but continued to knock Dylan's songs out of the ball park!

  • Just lovely! For me Joan is the first!

  • wedding cake is good. why do people have to change things that they have been to busy to work out

  • The woman could sing... by far the best singer in the folk/ protest/ pop era of her time - and one of the all time greats too. The voice and the poetry of the lyrics last a lot longer than the topical politics of her life. Art and beauty last.... politics fades in time.

  • Didn't like her politics but she *did* have talent and,in her own way,she was kinda pretty in her youth.

  • cool... I have only ever heard the Johnny Cash version before

  • awsome i feel like a hairy ape right now, cause i've got hair standing straight out from all over my body.

    Sweet chills....=)

  • does anyone know the chords she uses?

  • What a voice!!

  • Nowadays we got crap like Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

  • Sie singt so klar...da krieg ich echt Gänsehaut!!!!

  • I know that both her and Bob say this song is not about them, but a lot of people still believe it is. She had a pretty serious thing with Bob going then. No matter what they say, the words make a lot of people believe it is, don't they?

  • @SuperBigBaBoo diamonds and rust is your answer

  • I know both her and Bob say this song is not about them, but a lot of people still believe it is. She had a pretty serious thing with Bob at that time. no matter what they say, the words make you wonder, don't they?

  • Oh yes the sexual revolution! I so envy them as well. Guess it just left a passing streak in India and India has a long way to go for its own sexual revolution. Anyway a melodiously sung soulful song...and Oh my gawd is that beauty! Love her.

  • i love her.

  • her voice is sooo amazing

  • Her vocals are just so unique and sweet with a very professional quality to them. It always grabs me. My stepmom went to high school with her in Baltimore suburbs I think. She was one of the "popular" girls, worried about the perfect makeup, all that stuff. I think she would have been a valley girl in this time period. She described Baez as being mousy and unpopular. They had a talent contest one day, and Joan blew the whole school away. :) Karma! I love knowing that.

  • love it!

  • This was beautiful!

  • I think Joan covers Bob Dylan almost as good a Jerry Garcia...She puts her heart into it so much...Thanks Jonie!

  • amazing voice.

  • A million views? Damn. Was this chick famous or something? I mean I know it's a Dylan cover but still.

  • @migduh Yes, she was famous. She was THE folk singer of the anti-war movement. She did not just cover Bob Dylan, but she was also his lover and his confidante. She sang at Woodstock.

  • @BrokenSouls She was Dylan's lover? Really, when?

  • @migduh Hope someone might answer your question when you get out of grade school.

  • sorry mr dylan, but this is the most emotive and beautiful version of this song i have ever had the pleasure of hearing.

  • Die Traurigkeit der Liebe, des Lebens trägt Stimme: Joan Baez! Das Herz trägt die Proteste in und gegen den Wind. Danke!!

  • amazing !

  • only joan will call it a protest song!

  • It seems to me Joan Baez was very beautiful and relevant for her time, she was a very good spokesperson in the folk genre, like for instance Mary McCaslind, so these songs Dylan wrote were in way songs tailored made that she sang very well, unlike Dylan though she rested mostly on her laurels and reveled in the times. While Dylan being the true genius he was and the Beatles. Evolved as musicians and songwriters breaking new ground album after album.

  • no me gusta, ME ENCANTA!!!!!! :') bah...lo amo!! jeje es una idola, una divina!

  • johnny cash

  • I'd been dating a guy for almost four months and he broke up with me a couple days ago. He wanted pretty much everything mentioned in the song and for me to need him. That isn't me. So I can really relate to this song. That's why I'm doing it for my school's talent show in a few days. I'm really trying to reflect my own emotion and what Baez shows here. It will be tough, but a good way to cope in my opinion.

  • @mareeeann0987 you do know this is one of Dylan's songs?

  • @dudebearpig05 Yeah, of course.

  • when she sings we listen.

  • There's something lovingly ironic about Baez singing this song. Lovely.

  • Is it just me or does she have really long thumbs?...

  • Lovely.. An angel.

  • Beautiful haunting voice.....the one and only .

  • I also think she covers this songs amazingly and it's not easy to cover Dylan at all. I would like to invite everyone into Joan's music to check my original music on this channel. If you could take the time to listen and maybe leave some feedback it woud be awesome, since if you like this music you have some really good taste.

  • Joan Baez singing Vintage Dylan ~ No No It aint me Babe, Excellent

  • Brilliant <3

  • This is the only rendition of this song I've heard that makes sense. Dylan's too harsh, and the Cashes too perky. She doesn't let it drag, but the tone fits.

  • i love her.

  • I am almost 57 and i've been in love with Joan Baez since i was about 12. saw her in Belfast around 12 years ago with a great band (Fernando Sanders et al). Best concert i ever went to. I also heard her other times but this one was really special. This song has always been one of my favourites. Inevitably its by Dylan and she always sang his songs better than he ever did. emotion beats sarcasm and sardonicism every time

Wer will denn schon gerne inden Knast?

  • Muito bom!!!

Bem no ano em que nasci.

Talvez por isso gosto tanto de Joan.

  • I always think Dylan was such an idiot to say no to her....

  • what a fantastic voice

  • Comment removed

  • I think it works because a) she is so divinely gifted and b) she is the absolute antithesis to Dylan. They're opposite sides of the same coin and I love how she interprets his songs.

  • she is so lovely, inside and out. this is beautiful.

  • They say the eyes are the window to the soul. Watch this beautiful woman's eyes as she sings. You see into a soul that has truth, honesty and a genuine love of humanity, even when there is little about humanity to love sometimes. Her music, her life and her commitment to non-violence has been the greatest source of hope and inspiration for my own life. And, oh, that glorious voice. That magnificent glorious voice. Joan, "keep on walkin, keep on talkin, we gonna build a brand new world."

  • @butfulmuzik what a beautiful comment!I was just noticing those beautiful eyes myself......what a legend she will be remembered as a real soldier for peace

  • 'I guess i'm anti marriage' LMAO

  • im glad this has over a million views

  • HALF OF THEM ARE PROLLY MINE

  • beautiful and talented. i love the innocence in her eyes.

  • It makes me cry

  • woah!fabulous

  • amazing

  • Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin. The best femmale vocalists.

  • She just nails it, doesn't she?

  • The way she plays is soooooo beautiful.

    I think I'm in love.

  • LA AMO!!!!!

  • such a beautiful song and the lyrics are great. Joan really does sing it with a lot of feeling like she does with most of her songs, such a pure clear voice.

Pity those days are gone, when people still had a cause to fight and demonstrate for. What have we got now ? a no future generation.

  • We've got the same causes...even more...just not enough guts. I believe the times are a changin' and hope is always available...where are the leaders?

  • "A lover for your life and nothing more" is such a great line...

  • @KidMillions what about to gather flowers constantly to come each time u call and many more ,dylan my friend is great through out

  • It's not just the song. It's her youth that is so precious. Wish I had videos of myself when I was young.

  • Yes, she was so beautiful... I wish there were more young women like her today around!

  • @2dandami2 There are lots of women like her today. They gravitate to other interests as much of popular music is thoughtless tripe.

  • What a shame! When a person becomes a model through pop music it's more reachable...

those early Sixties were magical years in this sense.I guess we must wait for another war to have that post-war reaction so filled with emotions, ideals, high hopes, reflections, strive for truthness!

  • @perryfan10 You said a mouthful. I have no videos of myself in youth, except for about 5 seconds on my aunt's home movies.

  • @strawberryseason My Mom got 12 pictures developed about every two, three years. My baby pictures are all dated two years after I was born.

  • @perryfan10 Amen!

  • @VandalRoy I think we're so caught up in ourselves that we've forgot to celebrate youth. There are still kids that deserve to be listened to.

  • She and Bob Dylan were "linked romantically from 1962 until early 1965. Wonder how much of this song was autobiographical. Just seems like genuine pain and longing in her eyes, but every scintillating note from her mouth sounds authentic, doesn't it?

  • yes, I guess that they were both telling the same thing to eachother... "it ain't me".

  • camerrill, Yes she was in genuine pain there ,has Bob Dylan had just broken up with her after 3 years that they were together, she said she was madly in love with him at that time.

  • @camerrill totaly, you got that right.

  • @camerrill I would have to agree with your take on Joan's delivery of this song. To me, her eyes tell a story of longing and deep pain and while she sings the words, her heart just hasn't caught up to what she is saying? She seems to almost fall apart around 2:50 ... Not sure. Amazing performance and while it is softly delivered it is so powerful! Love this one! Thank you for posting! min:-)

  • @camerrill, great comment, nowadays singers/entertainers seem to be in for the wrong reasons

  • just beautiful!

  • I heard Satisfied Mind a few days ago for the first time, its such a great song. I adore her voice, she really moves me. Now I want to listen to everything she's recorded. I wish I had known about her when I was younger, she is so inspiring.

  • Joans voice is perfect, could isten to her sing all day.

  • I just went through a breakup that more or less can be described by these lyrics. The ironic thing is that I fell in love with the guy when he played me this clip. Well...if nothing else, I will always be grateful to him for introducing me to Joan Baez.'s music. She really has got the voice of an angel.

  • @HildeMarlene It is "ME". Every break up I know of is all about "ME". The "ME" generation is terrible at marriage because it is all about what makes "ME" happy and what "ME" wants.

  • @perryfan10 I'm curious about what you mean by "me". Because of course we are all driven by "me", we are always motivated by our own feelings and expectations and everything that comes with our genetics and our enviroment. And in that case not only break ups, but also what makes us stay in a relationship is all about "ME". But I guess you mean some sort of childish "I want the world to give me everything, but I don't want to work for it or give anything in return" kind of "me"?

  • @HildeMarlene I'm terrible at hurting people's feelings because I'm part of the "Me" generation too. Enduring 7 divorces and separations in my immediate family, I'm getting sick of the selfishness. We are not all driven by "me" but it is a hard concept to learn. I'm still working on it. Living your life by how it affects yourself and not by how it affects others would be a good description of "ME".

  • I had the great pleasure of interviewing Joan during her "Diamonds and Rust" tour in the mid-70's. She has been a guiding force and wonderful example in my life of non-violence and passive resistance. When you look into her eyes as she sings, there is no doubt about the sincerity of what she sings. Her voice has deepened with the passing years, but the heart and soul of her music has never changed. She chooses a song like a wise man chooses a friend. What a remarkable person and artist!

  • Times Change, Music changes with those times, we have far more freedom, and ways to express that freedom, I agree that some music has lost its value but not all, some music today has value and meaning, just dont look mainstream...

  • fantastica

  • Wasn't she just superb? I had one of her first albums in the sixties. Yes, the sixties were a revolutionary time but I didn't realise it at the time. We gained some things from that era, but we lost some too. That's life.

  • This is way beyond rating. You just can't put star value on this. Humbling.

  • This is beautiful, I so envy the ones who experienced this beautiful era of sexual revolution and beautiful art.

Nowadays people don't even care about the art and the beauty of a meaningful song, nowadays they are just in it for the money.

And what is the worst is that teenagers nowadays don't care about the world or tomorrow, they don't care about the lyrics, they just want a beat. I am 17 and I feel sorry for the world I live in.

    We need a revolution.

  • I was born in 1951 so I was there at the time. Yes it was a good time to be born - I felt we could do anything, even go to the moon. But on the other hand I never thought I would ever see year 2000, expecting WW3.

All cannot be lost though you are just 17 and can see the world for what it is.

  • Although I agree that the overall over-all effort involved in making contemporary music has gone down, I believe there are still songs being made that are meaningful.

  • I couldn't agree more. I am 35 and my parents grew up in the 60s and I REALLY envy them! What a brilliant time to be young with all that incredible music. REAL music!!!

  • i know im so jealous! i wouldnt want to be born back then though. so many great bands :( the beatles, roling stones ect.

  • @SuperSpringsteenFan Don't envy them. There was just as much crap or more than today. The good songs have endured, the crummy ones are in a dump someplace. Unfortunately my friend seems to dig them up occasionally.

  • God I remember being that naive.

  • Godess Nike said, "JUST DO IT"! Start with yourself! I´ve talked to some people of your age and I think you shouldn´t listen to what MTV or any other people say to ignore music from the past or whatever. You have to learn from the past, but put your feelings into all you do, despite the *mainstream*, because all the revolutionaries didn´t listen to others, they MADE THEIR OWN HISTORY AND TIME.

  • @MisanthropicPulp I agree 100%!! New music is pure sell out coporate shit music!!

  • @MisanthropicPulp paolo nutini and brett dennen. its starting

  • @MisanthropicPulp In the 1960's they shot college students for protesting the war, lead was added to gasoline causing everyone serious harm, sure some beautiful art and music was produced by drug fueled artists but most of them are dead from frying their brains; I like the world now, it's a much better place than the 60's.

  • @perryfan10 In some ways things were better and in some ways worse. That is always the way it is with history. In the 1960s there was a lot less traffic and suburban sprawl. I used to ride my bike to town and not have to lock it up. There was a lot less noise (subwoofers, car alarms) and less crime. I liked it better except for the following: the lead gasoline, women not yet entering the professions and people not accepting gays.

  • @strawberryseason My bikes all came from the dump so were not worth the trouble of stealing. General Motors bought little rail lines in the 60's and shut them down so people would drive cars and live in suburbs. So we can thank them partly for suburban sprawl. (they also owned part of the lead in gas, company.) Women are nasty people to work with because they are smarter. At least the ones I know.

  • Yeah, the car companies do bear some responsibility for sprawl.

    Regarding women -- haha ;)

  • @strawberryseason As for accepting gays, our church minister in the 60's was a gay woman and she was fantastic. The gays who trumpet promiscuous, immoral behaviour and the media's image of gays have not helped at all. I know lots of gay women personally who live decent, moral lives. Strangely, I know only one gay guy and he has issues.

  • @MisanthropicPulp ur a very enlightened bright young person! dont give up someday there will be a revolution

  • Comment removed

  • @mamamaddd started becoming hippie. lol

  • @MisanthropicPulp If we had more people like you on this planet, there would be a lot of crap we wouldn't have to deal with. Thank you for posting. And thank you for restoring my faith in the current generation of youth.

  • Some of the most kick-ass lyrics ever written. "Speaking strictly for me, we both could have died then and there".

    Joan Baez, legend.

  • Eine fantastische Künstlerin!

  • Great song, beautifull singing!

  • So beautiful! A true deity!

  • I think I heard this song for the for the first time when I was about 12 years old. Didn't make a lot of sense to me then, but I loved the lilting tune, and most certainly, Joan Baez' voice.

Now, after almost 30 years, with the knowledge gained from painful experiences in my personal life, this song has taken on a new meaning ... it touches the heart!

  • It can be about anyone. Still one' of the best versions of this tune.

  • This may be a small thing, but it's the refrain. Joan Baez adds "Babe" to "It ain't me you're lookin' for." So, "It ain't me you're lookin' for, Babe." The lovely little rhyme on "for" is lost. Baez has such a beautiful voice, I still like the song. But what happened to her taste — or maybe just her humility. She should trust the lyricist. She makes this kind of mistake over and over again, and I noticed that Dylan complained about it on stage, standing right beside her (somewhere on YouTube).

  • I agree with you, greghh. I also seem to recall that Dylan wrote, "I'll only BRING you down" not "LET you down", a much softer and woosier version. It was patronising (matronising?) of her to make changes like that.

  • Another one, Rumiton, was the old Simon and Garfunkle song "The Dangling Conversation." Actually, Paul Simon in recent years says he's embarrassed to have ever written that song, but that's an old man judging a young one, in my opinion. Anyway, one part, about trivial discussions, goes, "Can analysis be worthwhile/Is the theater really dead?" Joan changed that to, ".../Is the Church really dead?" For such a beautiful singer (and maybe person too), she could be tone deaf.

  • Creative projects that I have been involved with often suffered from something like this. People who were splendid backdrop artists wanted to be flute players, terrific potters wanted to sing, singers wanted only to dance ballet. If we all stuck to what we do best, the world would be a nicer place. (Or maybe it wouldn't. WTF do I know?)

  • LOL! Maybe creative artists, who need bigger egos than quiet little fans (like me), are the clearest examples of human nature. I'm the same way in small things.

  • Good point. Maybe they are all good at showing us to us.

  • Search utube for Bob Dylan w Joan Baez i dreamed i saw st. augustine live

  • @Mimiandjoaniebaez

That is very interesting. She must have gotten involved with Dylan after she broke up with Kim Chappell. Then Dylan left her for Sara.

  • This live version is better than the studio version,is the first time that i see this thing happen. :)

  • I loved the fact that she got married only a couple of years after she said this :)

  • Indeed raeynah - you're right

  • Dustpile: it is advisable to write something you believe in as well as something you want to share with the rest of the world. In light of this there are songs that chant this kind of beliefs (which i completely support by the way) and songs that encorauge opposite beliefs, starting from catholic church hymns, for instance...the "brainwashing" matter is down to people that let their brain BE brainwashed. I wish there were more people who were keen to be brainwashed by this song than others. xx

  • Amazing!

  • She is one of the great folk singers.

  • Sad but true for some or maybe most ;)

I LOVE Joan! Youtube brings me back to Saturdays jammin' with my Dad sometimes...great memories :)

  • haunting

  • She's absolutely a treasure and had the guts to put it on the line for what she believed in.

  • story of her life.. a champion.

  • this was a usual protest against the typical conservative american people getting married just like how the system tells you to . this is what made the 60's :)

  • actually, bob dylan wrote this song to explain, that he didn't want to be seen as a protest singer

  • this woman is so amazing!

  • sinto me flutuando....

    no infinito........

    talvez como a vida,

    quem sabe a morte,

    a eternidade.

Tina - Fpolis -SC - Brasil.

  • Such a beautiful voice! And such sad eyes..

    One of my favourites, definitely!

  • Let's be fair, we'd all be gutted about that.
