Sorry to burst your bubble, but seriously...I don't think anyone would be rebuilding any of the Olympic class ships exactly the way they were back in the early 1900's. I'd mostly point to the repercussions of the Titanic disaster in the first place. There are rules and regulations in place to prevent big beasties such as the Titanic/Olympic/Brittanic (Gigantic) being half built and sent out to sea, basically....

I was # 538 to sing and I saw a comment to make her a diesel ship because of pollution well a steam engines doesn't have to pollute as for if can use any heating fuel that can boil water so you can still use steam just a different fuel than coal.

In 2008 an American Guy and the Belfast Council were in talks over doing this in 2012.

It would take alot of work.

The artical was posted in 2008, and they said 'We will confirm if this will go ahead or not during the summer'

Summer 2008 has been and gone, its now nearing Summer 2010.

We have 2 years until 2012, this would take ages to build.

I live right beside were the Titanic was made and theres no sign what so ever of anything being done yet :(

I would love to see a new titanic built, but face it they would have to re design the whole ship to suit the laws of today, the ship wouldn't do so well I don't think any one wants a third class room the whole ship would be different, so I say lets leave Titanic as the ship of dreams, and remember her as she was. she will never be forgotten.

even if they took all the oringal artifacts out of the titanic musuem that they have brought up from the ocean floor it wouldnt be enough to fill the ship,,if they rebuilt it,,,you cant take a big ship and just call it titanic it wouldnt be titanic if it didnt look like titanic inside and out side,,,

the only way the titanic can be REBUILT is to have the money to do so and  to FIND A COMPANY THAT WILL REPRODUCE THE TYPE OF FURNUTURE AND LIGHTING FIXTURES that the oringal titanic had,,you cant build a large ship and just call it titanic,,it would have to be as close to the oringal as it can be,,what company can make replicas of the spiral stair case and lighting fixtures and furnuture ,,,I doubt it if it would ever happen

There are already talks about taking the Britanic and turning it into an underwater museum. Already, many hobby shops all over the world are selling models of the Titanic produced by Revell.

I think building another Titanic would be rather expensive, how do you plan to pay for this? I also do not think an Exact replica is a good idea either. Build a ship that resembles her but make it safer with more lifeboats and surely without steam engines as well.

They wouldn't be allowed to build the exact ship... But the ship with gps,weather,radar systems, and now-days engines...But if theyjust would get the shape/paint/feel/enterrior/ of the titanic i geuss alot of people would be pleased...

Thats quite of a problem. No company wants to spent the money.. The ship would costs over 600million dollars (if i am right). Aslong as a millionaire Or a company don't want to invest in the ship.....No titanic then...

Wrong. One World Trade Tower is already 6 million dollar. The Titanic doesn't even beat that high money. The Titanic should be around 4 á 5 million dollars.

Don't worry. The license of the Titanic 2 is ready on Harland and Wolff, the design plans are ready. The ship has green light and it will be build in the upcoming years.

It was already world news when Harland and Wolff published that the Replica of the Titanic was ready to go in October 2002. But the project cancelled and the SSTitan team is trying to get it build in this century.

I don't know why so many people don't want the Titanic build. If we rebuild the Olympic they don't seem to have problems, but the Olympic is just the first White Star Liner and it is a replica of the Titanic. But we have to rebuild all three ships. The Olympic served for 25-years and the Aquitania served for 50-years! The Britannic never carried a passenger and it sunk in World War I as hospital ship. And Titanic sunk on first maiden voyage and had no future!

+ Airplanes has taken over travel..some people need to understand that the only way to travel was by ship (in that time) now we go on cruise for fun.

Instead of rebuilding the titanic they should raise the titanics sister ship the britannic and put it in the dry dock that was built for it at harland and wolff. it is the best preserved sunken liner in existance and the only one from this time period that could still be raised. To see this in real life in a dry dock, Titanics sister, would be amazing, instead of some newly built copy.

Part 2: to rebuild the ship to sail they could increase the sikze of the ship to the current largest ship currently sailing for cruses. They could get away with having the exterior being the same but internaly the ship would have to be overhalled to fit safty regulations of today. also the sleeping quarters would have to be uniform and not class devided. Radar and sonar would need to be instaled as well as moden equiptment for her safty regulations would need to be up to date.

Part 1: although not practifcal for a comertial liner it would be an interesting museum to trully experence the grandure of the titanic. It would be a drydock musium so she could be shown fully, and have plreanty of stalf to give guided tours and to cook in the resturant.

Who want to pay fore a spartan 3th class cabin without shower and toilet. Even here first and second class cabins where small and only a view have private facility's. No one wanted to pay fore such accommodation. And I cane go one and one. Unrealistic and to late fore a introducing in 2012. Considering the obstacles a shipyard and owner have to take. Unrealistic expensive.

Rebuilding here is unrealistic. She have to be redesigned from scratch. using here old blueprints is simply not possible. The whole ship was designed as a 3 class vessel. you have tho change the layout to make it work. Simply rebuilding here as she was is not the option.

Why rebuilding the Titanic, she was not the most handsome ore unique vessel in the world. Here title largest was soon to be lost to a trio of German Liners. Here interiors where found on several liners build by Harland and Wolff. here glass enclosed promanade was not the first. In 1908 the Dutch liner Rotterdam (H&W build) was the first. here only fame was here sinking not more not less. And doing so she was not unique to. Many other vessels sunk on the maiden voyage.

I didn't know there was an official petition for this until now! I just signed it and my sister did, too! They should make it set sail or whatever on the same day the actual Titanic set sail except in 2012 so it would be 100 years later.
