As a child of the 70's and hence, the music of the 80's, I'm shocked this song doesn't have more views. Les Américains sont incroyablement très stupids. Yes, a bilingual American!
I'm old school--Genesis, Yes, Moody Blues, etc., but I sure count New Order as some of the best music I've heard in my life. (Not to mention Joy Division and Bad Lieutenant).
1987: I was 23. Had a great job, a 401k, money to burn, '87 Pontiac for a company car that I put a tape player in. I was blasting this tune in some hotel parking lot late at night. Life was good. I was going places.
All that is gone now, except I still have tunes like Shellshock.
They were SHIT live. Everyone knew this and Bernard even got pissed at one interviewer about 'Why does everyone have to bring that up?" Hahaha. Seriously, listen to some of their live albums (if you can find them) it's embarrassing.
@sherlock747 yes I used to have a Ford Cortina (mark 5) aswell, in the late 80's and used to play a New Order tape all the time at full blast with my mates, they loved this music too. It's my 46th birthday today but I still fondly remember those days when music was music!
@HatfulofHollow65 Happy birthday. I'll be 47 in two months time. Yes, the 80s was full of great music. One of the things I love about youtube is being able to relive all those times!!
An exquisite dance track. Just perfect. I remember the scene in "Pretty in Pink" when it came on, and for some reason I remember it really adding to the intimidation and pathos of the high school dance scene.
One of THE BEST dance tunes EVER. Period. Boo-yah boeyyyyyyyee!
btw, I wish New Order would produce more of this...don't get me wrong I love their other material as well. But this paticular song really is one of my favourite songs. iMo, they're the premier quintessential dance band of the 80s. Love'em!
aso-thx for your response but look at the album above the the senders comments...the original was in "pretty in pink" Anybody I collected one here in the states from England "PEEL SESSIONS" what was-is that?
Does anyone know what synthesizer these guys used on this track? I have an odd feeling it's a Yamaha DX7, but there is no record of New Order ever playing one. So what synths are they using?
I've been good, I've been bad, but common sense i've never had......priceless......long live the 80's.....although now I think us 37-44 year olds now have a LITTLE common sense!...LOL
Shellshock! Read the history. why they became New Order is a name in its-self. "Control" was the start. I love history,,,fighting for the truth is always best. New Order refined their music...they never sold out... hear the the cut that is undergroumd.
this was from the movie pretty in pink, the long version is available on a 12 inch record..... the good old days. they don't have jams like this on the radio anymore!
New Order would be my favorite band of all time. Second would be a tie between Depeche Mode, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen and the Clash.
Best ever lesser known bands would be Kon Kan and the Photos.

I can distinctly remember the first time I heard this song - on a coach on a school trip to Scotland in '87. Still sounds as fresh as ever.

Its a kind of mini-synthesizer-opera they wrote here, according to "Geisha boys and temple girls" by Heaven17.
Nevertheless one of the best songs NO ever did.
