The root cause of lawlessness, war, poverty, misery that drives people to take these horrendous chances must be fully addressed before the pirate situation is solved. Somalia must be assisted in obtaining peace. The many problems and the suffering of the people on land must be alleviated first to fight off piracy. Failed states ought to be helped, not ignored.
