ive been there twice and am going again on thursday. im in south korea with the u.s. army and this is a tour we are all given the chance to be a part of.
This is some interesting stuff but I'd like to see some info on the ROK Tiger Division.I know a kung-fu instructor who trained over there while in the U.S. Army back in the mid 60's and he said their one of the toughest outfits around.
"Their most notable operations in Vietnam were "Operation Van Buren" and the Battle of Hoi An. During "Operation Van Buren", a ROKMC platoon of about 13 soldiers wiped out an elite North Vietnamese Army regiment, resulting in only 2 Korean casualties while more than 400 NVA soldiers were killed. The initial gun battle had devolved into bloody hand-to-hand combat. The ROKMC boasted an overall kill ratio of 25-to-1 in the Vietnam War."
Interesting point: South Korea did not sign a peace treaty. The war is in suspension. When visiting the DMZ you must sign a paper that says you understand you are in a war zone. Also the type of clothing is specified and one thing emphasized is: no pointing or hand gestures at the enemy, as it could lead to an assault. It is interesting to see the reverence of tourists from countries who stepped up to liberate Korea.

there is much more to the d.m.z than that. there are signs posted in korean that are communist propaganda all over. there are landmines EVERYWHERE. i was at camp greaves which was an american base about 2 km from the area you just seen, we used to jog up to camp bonifas for p.t. every nite you would hear the north and the south blarring propaganda over loud speakers at each other. sometimes we would wake up to north korean pamphlets all over the base that they would send over on balloons.
why would the NK's want to do that? as far as I know the soldiers only join up to avoid homelessnes and starvation, there must be some catch or something

Well both countries wanted unification during the late '40 and '50. DPRK wanted a communist state, ROK wanted a western-like democracy state. Now, it's likely that the ROK isn't interested in unification, because that will have an major impact on their economy.
Just a question, aren't US Soldier allowed to go to the northern end of te MAC-building? In every clip I saw they stay "relatively safe" in South-Korea.

In addition, the whole thing started when the Japanese invaded Korea. American is not entirely responsible for the divison. If you have to yell at people, you have to yell at everybody. If you only scream at the American, something is wrong with your logic.

actually, stalin wanted nothing to do with korea before it got divided. the americans r the ones who said, "let's divide korea" when russia was willing to give korea up. well, it was 2 seargents actually, so yeah. u can't rlly blame all of the u.s. for the division. and there was this massacre in korea in which americans killed a bunch of socialists, and that got kim il sung into power..i believe.

The Sergeant said that when President Bush made a visit to the Z in March 2001 to meet with the president of south korea..Two North Korean soldiers walked in and tried..I say again TRIED to shine thier boots with the American flag. The North Koreans try to provoke the JSA and ROK gaurds daily..it is a VERY dangerous area up there.

This is some interesting stuff but I'd like to see some info on the ROK Tiger Division.I know a kung-fu instructor who trained over there while in the U.S. Army back in the mid 60's and he said their one of the toughest outfits around.

Interesting point: South Korea did not sign a peace treaty. The war is in suspension. When visiting the DMZ you must sign a paper that says you understand you are in a war zone. Also the type of clothing is specified and one thing emphasized is: no pointing or hand gestures at the enemy, as it could lead to an assault. It is interesting to see the reverence of tourists from countries who stepped up to liberate Korea.

there is much more to the d.m.z than that. there are signs posted in korean that are communist propaganda all over. there are landmines EVERYWHERE. i was at camp greaves which was an american base about 2 km from the area you just seen, we used to jog up to camp bonifas for p.t. every nite you would hear the north and the south blarring propaganda over loud speakers at each other. sometimes we would wake up to north korean pamphlets all over the base that they would send over on balloons.
