Harlan city limits is about 28 miles East of a small town called Pineville. Thats where "granny sold out cheap and moved out West to. In the days Mr. Scott was singing about Pineville was considered to be "far off". Many folks thought it's rich riverbeds would prove to be great for growing tobacco. However in the early part of the century there was an algae like substance that grew on the leaves (quite possible that it was from the feces in the river flowing from Harlan).

Mad me cry, my dad was a coal miner for 27 years around maddisonville, but his coal mine went bankrupt and he went to work for the Mining Safety and Health Administration, he ran a roof bolter for his first 4 years while he only weighed about 110 pounds. His work is 2 hours away which is crazy to most people but he loves helping miners and making there work enviorment safer becuase he knows that he is responsible for so many younger generations of men and children.

Mad me cry, my dad was a coal miner for 27 years around maddisonville, but his coal mine went bankrupt and he went to work for the Mining Safety and Health Administration, he ran a roof bolter for his first 4 years while he only weighed about 110 pounds. His work is 2 hours away which is crazy to most people but he loves helping miners and making there work enviorment safer becuase he knows that he is responsible for so many younger generations of men and children.

I'm blown away you outclass some of the pros . They could take a lesson about putting your heart and soul into a song. One of the major problems in my opinion with much of our music today is this lack of singing from the gut. Bravo young lady bravo!

Very nice pipes - but you have not given proper credit to who wrote it and played it first. DARRELL SCOTT... Loveless's version is wonderful and she has a beautiful voice but please check out the ACTUAL SONGWRITER's version. It was written by him about his great grandfather.
