Hi folks. Slight change of subject. Possibly purchasing a truck and need some advice.
Which is cheaper in the long run?
To have two vehicles, one small cheap car for job commute and truck for utility purposes, therefore paying registration, insurance, and maintenance for two.
Or having one all-purpose vehicle (truck). Worse on gas but only paying all those fees for only one.
@2WheelinTacoma 2009/2010 model F-150's have Locking Diff's but they are only availble on the FX4 model. However as of 2011 Ford made the locker more avalible as you can now get it on other trims as well as the FX4.
I couldn't stand to even look at such an Ugly truck in my driveway. Much less own one. I'm sticking with Chevrolet. Look a million times better and Can actually last a million miles. I've driven Several fords trucks and I'm not impressed at all.
@Pantera4LifeXTX I not going to shit you. I'm a Ford truck guy but will admit that I am not sold on the styling of the current F-150 eventhough I own two. However, the 1500 Silverado is no better. It has some ugly sheet metal and that three-piece vynil and thin-gauge tin front bumper is simply ugly. If it was all about looks, I'd go with a black Ram 1500 Laramie. The Silverado 1500 is just cheap throughout and ugly.

@lariatfx I agree, the new fords...and new trucks in general, aren't that great looking...Personally I think the 78-79 or the 92-96 F150 generations were the toughest looking/best looking trucks ford made. Back when trucks were trucks and not cushy, oversized vehicles most use to get to the grocery store and back, lol.

Sorry but..Ford has the dumbest commercial's of all time. they are so fake, it even makes me more repulsed to want to ever buy one of their cars. I considered FORD when looking for a new truck, but all the advertisements are totally fake. So fake that it discourages you the buyer completely. You have to be a neo maxi zune dweebie living in a cave in America to believe that anything they say is true. So I ended up buying the Tundra, and out tow my buddy in his F-150 up El Cajon pass every time.
Ford simply won because it's the best truck. it may not have the most power (well, actually, now it does with the 6.2L Raptor), but you can push it a lot harder in every way, without having to worry about something going wrong. trust me, I know this first hand. out '07 and '08 F-150s are just amazing, especially considering what they have to go through. try hauling a fully loaded bed of oak up and down a mountain trail all day with a 4.6 V-8. only the F-150.
my 95 straight 6 f150 can pull a 5600 lb bobcat on a 2300 lb trailer with the bed full of scrap metal no problem. Once I accidently let the guy at the concrete recycling place load 8000 lb of gravel in my 2600 lb dump trailer, and the truck was able to pull that. I would take an old american straight 6 over these new V8 any day of the week. And WTF is up with them putting pussy ass aluminum heads on these big v8's?

The Ford F-150 is the best truck period, better than Chevy, Toyota, GMC, Dodge, Podge, whichever. Tundra is absolute garbage. The Silverado is absolute dated garbage that wishes it was an F-150 (probably wouldn't take it for a gift, frankly). Go with the best, and this is the F-150 all day, every day and twice on Sundays.

The Ford won because despite its lower power numbers, It still out pulls the Dodge. And the Dodge has that god awful 5-speed automatic that can't compare to Ford's new 6-speed auto. But even so, Dodge' lead in power over Ford wont last long. As soon as Ford drops the 5.0L V8 in the F-150's its game over for Dodge. And personally I would like to see the boss 6.2L in ALL F-150's myself. Not just the Raptors. The 5.0L would make a great 400hp base engine.

I'm looking into buying a new truck, but am very undecided. I need it to haul stuff in and for carrying my 3 children to school and events. I like the Ford's features and styling. The Silverado and Gmc are pretty nice looking trucks and I have always owned chevrolet. And I think the Toyota is a nice looking truck, especially the big 4 doors. I like the space it has in the back. Although I have never owned a toyota before.
If you want my advice, go with the F-150. It's more capable in terms of towing and hauling, has the highest safety rating in both frontal and side impact and crash tests and the best safety features for your loved ones. It's roomier and more refined in terms of build and material quality throughout compared to the Chevy. I think the Tundra has some serious quality deficiencies which will soon make you regret that you actually paid good money for it. I used to be a Chevy guy until recently.
get the f-150 the toyota is the biggest peice of shit the chevy is nice but a peice of shit the dodge is nice but not on the same level as the f-150 yet so i would go with ford for safty reliability and towing no oither truck comes close and it gets the best gas mileage
Toyota trucks have this problem in general. Have you ever seen a Tundra go over the humps in those test runs that the F-150 just did? It's a funny ass sight. The Tundra's cabin and bed look like their gonna rip apart.

while the f150 has 3 different engines 4.6L 2V V8, 4.6L 3V V8, and the 5.4L 3V V8. Or you can go to the f250 with more powerful engines; the 2011 f250 will come out in the spring of 2010, it will have more powerful engines with better fuel economy.

In the 70's you bough a truck for life it dosn't mater how many miles on it or how old its is because they were made to be fixed unlike a new car. i have a 79' f250 with 579,000 miles on it you dont get that out of a new vehicle without spending a fortune in parts and repairs on it.

Yes , Im not disagreeing with that , Ive seen a couple of those "Great Wall of China" trucks over here in the UK and I agree they are pretty poor . I suppose I could say I am also a Ford man. My current F150 ( its a fairly basic 1998 2 wheel drive single cab long bed V6 ) has never let me down once in 10 years . Ive never had anything go wrong in all that time ( its very well serviced / looked after ).
However , I still like other trucks and Im not automatically against all other makes.

I move cars and trucks for Hertz, so I get the luxury of driving all makes and models. The Ford trucks kick all the competitions asses! The Ford's feels safer moving through traffic, there is no camparision in ride, and the Ford will outrun the others, I know...trust me!

I should also note - I have the 4.6 3 valve, with the 6 spd auto tranny - According to my manual its rated at about 290-298 hp, and the 5.4 doesn't have that much more of a hp gain over mine - Less u need it 4 a lot of off road driving, save ur $ & get the smaller engine, BUT make sure u get the 6 spd auto, w/the bigger differential. I'm lovin it, incredible mpg w/25 mpg @ 60mph!
I just got the 2009 F150 XLT model w/the 4.6 V8 and 3.55 differential... Its rated to pull at least 7500lbs with the bigger differential. I believe all of the F150's regardless of engine size can pull (on paper) between 10-11k lbs
the base with the weaker engine and 4 wheel drive can tow i think over 5000 pounds...the platinum top of the line with 2 wheel drive can tow up to 11,000 pounds i think...look on fords website for the chart

i´ve got a 2006 f-150 fx4 5.4l v8 supercrew. very reliable, powerful and family-friendly and
right here you´re the king of the road with such a truck :D though it´s very costly
one gallon costs nearly 7 dollars a gallon :(
one filling costs up to 230 dollars
but there is nothing like an f-150

Sorry but..Ford has the dumbest commercial's of all time. they are so fake, it even makes me more repulsed to want to ever buy one of their cars. I considered FORD when looking for a new truck, but all the advertisements are totally fake. So fake that it discourages you the buyer completely. You have to be a neo maxi zune dweebie living in a cave in America to believe that anything they say is true. So I ended up buying the Tundra, and out tow my buddy in his F-150 up El Cajon pass every time.

Ford simply won because it's the best truck. it may not have the most power (well, actually, now it does with the 6.2L Raptor), but you can push it a lot harder in every way, without having to worry about something going wrong. trust me, I know this first hand. out '07 and '08 F-150s are just amazing, especially considering what they have to go through. try hauling a fully loaded bed of oak up and down a mountain trail all day with a 4.6 V-8. only the F-150.

my 95 straight 6 f150 can pull a 5600 lb bobcat on a 2300 lb trailer with the bed full of scrap metal no problem. Once I accidently let the guy at the concrete recycling place load 8000 lb of gravel in my 2600 lb dump trailer, and the truck was able to pull that. I would take an old american straight 6 over these new V8 any day of the week. And WTF is up with them putting pussy ass aluminum heads on these big v8's?

The Ford F-150 is the best truck period, better than Chevy, Toyota, GMC, Dodge, Podge, whichever. Tundra is absolute garbage. The Silverado is absolute dated garbage that wishes it was an F-150 (probably wouldn't take it for a gift, frankly). Go with the best, and this is the F-150 all day, every day and twice on Sundays.

The Ford won because despite its lower power numbers, It still out pulls the Dodge. And the Dodge has that god awful 5-speed automatic that can't compare to Ford's new 6-speed auto. But even so, Dodge' lead in power over Ford wont last long. As soon as Ford drops the 5.0L V8 in the F-150's its game over for Dodge. And personally I would like to see the boss 6.2L in ALL F-150's myself. Not just the Raptors. The 5.0L would make a great 400hp base engine.

I'm looking into buying a new truck, but am very undecided. I need it to haul stuff in and for carrying my 3 children to school and events. I like the Ford's features and styling. The Silverado and Gmc are pretty nice looking trucks and I have always owned chevrolet. And I think the Toyota is a nice looking truck, especially the big 4 doors. I like the space it has in the back. Although I have never owned a toyota before.

If you want my advice, go with the F-150. It's more capable in terms of towing and hauling, has the highest safety rating in both frontal and side impact and crash tests and the best safety features for your loved ones. It's roomier and more refined in terms of build and material quality throughout compared to the Chevy. I think the Tundra has some serious quality deficiencies which will soon make you regret that you actually paid good money for it. I used to be a Chevy guy until recently.

Toyota trucks have this problem in general. Have you ever seen a Tundra go over the humps in those test runs that the F-150 just did? It's a funny ass sight. The Tundra's cabin and bed look like their gonna rip apart.
However you run into ignorant people who think that alot of power makes the truck when in reality if you look at the specs. the F-150 is a better buy than most other trucks and it is better at doing "actual work".

all the 3 cabs can get the same towing capacity of 11,300lbs with only 2 wheel drive. But the regular cab gets more payload capacity of 3,030lbs.
So if you want 11,300lbs towing capacity and a payload capacity of 3,030lbs together get the regular cab.

while the f150 has 3 different engines 4.6L 2V V8, 4.6L 3V V8, and the 5.4L 3V V8. Or you can go to the f250 with more powerful engines; the 2011 f250 will come out in the spring of 2010, it will have more powerful engines with better fuel economy.

but if a person wants a light duty truck for everyday driving, i guess the ranger is not that bad a choice. especially the cash/delivery allowance ford gives, it's only about +/- $20,000 (i live in Canada) for the highest 4x4 trim.

Yes , Im not disagreeing with that , Ive seen a couple of those "Great Wall of China" trucks over here in the UK and I agree they are pretty poor . I suppose I could say I am also a Ford man. My current F150 ( its a fairly basic 1998 2 wheel drive single cab long bed V6 ) has never let me down once in 10 years . Ive never had anything go wrong in all that time ( its very well serviced / looked after ).
However , I still like other trucks and Im not automatically against all other makes.

I should also note - I have the 4.6 3 valve, with the 6 spd auto tranny - According to my manual its rated at about 290-298 hp, and the 5.4 doesn't have that much more of a hp gain over mine - Less u need it 4 a lot of off road driving, save ur $ & get the smaller engine, BUT make sure u get the 6 spd auto, w/the bigger differential. I'm lovin it, incredible mpg w/25 mpg @ 60mph!

I just got the 2009 F150 XLT model w/the 4.6 V8 and 3.55 differential... Its rated to pull at least 7500lbs with the bigger differential. I believe all of the F150's regardless of engine size can pull (on paper) between 10-11k lbs

the base with the weaker engine and 4 wheel drive can tow i think over 5000 pounds...the platinum top of the line with 2 wheel drive can tow up to 11,000 pounds i think...look on fords website for the chart
