But this song is dealing with an assumption about how one African might act upon hearing about modern civilization, not an inherent white superiority. Any other conclusion is speculation. Carl Sigman and Bob Hilliard were not racists. Danny Kaye was DEFINITELY not racist (worked with UNICEF in Africa). Also, the jazz cities were far more tolerant than the rest of the country.

Danny and Satchmo were very well-known for their collaborations together. Yes there were stereotypes in the 40s, as there are today. But despite what you'd like to believe, not every white person thought blacks were inferior. Not to mention that my nine black coworkers absolutely love this song....
