Mr. McKenzie: Nice stuff, very helpful. Never been able to play like this - you've got me pointed in the right direction. Thanks for putting these in the ether. jfreeway
Have you considered jazz treatments of Mozart sonatas?
As always: Perfect substitutions - subtle voice leading. Great laid-back rhythmic feel on the solo lines: A big fan here. Keep it up. Love the acoustic.
i love the acoustic piano versions better actually, although transcriptions help beginners no doubt. Eventually people have to learn to play what they hear without having to look at the score so...this is probably the right time for acoustic piano.
Wow Doug -acoustic too! Lovely tone. As well as your usual impeccable playing you give us a master-class on the effect of squeezing the last drop of technical quality out of youtube. Can you tell us more about microphone placements and video upload parameters you are using to deliver this stunning quality?
Yes, please keep on playing your baby Grand on those videos. I don't think that midi based transcriptions add a significant value to the pedagigoc aspect of your recordings. And the pure artistic aspect (if ever these two aspects can be really seperated from each other) of your playing gains momentum from the acoustic instrument.
Smart-assed, enough, now I lay back, enjoy and learn by listening.
This is really great Doug! The camera angle gives us a perfect view to figure-out exactly the notes you are playing and your annotations and "highlighting" of the keys are terrific. Lots 2 learn on this one! ;-)
Don't stop using the baby grand. Its sound is so gorgeous with the songs you choose. Of course, I like how you lightened up the keys and hands for us to see much better than Darn That Dream. Always helpful, thanks.
feedback on the lack of transcription - THIS is really closer to a jazz lesson than a computer generated transcription. I like THIS video lesson better than trying to follow a transcription. THIS shows you playing a top class instrument and brings many great annotations and makes me ask, 'what is he doing there?'. So my feedback is, please don't fret the 'lack' of transcriptions.

Your Kawai grand piano sounds great! No wait, it sounds even better than that since you play on it!
Definitely a reference! Have to watch it again and again.
