and check out The local Blues and classic rock Band Called

    RIley Road

  • Stevie Ray, Clapton, Hendrix and more. You can hear all of the blues influences. I think this album (Try) is the best Mayer ever sounded. But I like blues, so I'm a bit biased toward that sound.

  • Hell fuckin yeah, bitches.

  • this is so tasty

  • One word....amazing. My new favorite song...what?

  • Damn this is some hot shit!! Such a wicked groove...

  • This drum groove just gave me an orgasm.

  • OMG... He is perfect...

  • LOVE the ghost notes!!!!!!

  • fuzz and octavio or something?=

  • Amazing. I love Peter Palladino and his skills.

The three of these men together are incredible. I wish they'd come to Cincinnati.

  • Quelle abomination pour une si grande œuvre de Ray Charles !

  • @gaulteu I dont do well with French, but do I get " This is an abomination of the great work of Ray charles?"

If so, it's just a matter of one's preferences in interpretation.

Music is full of this stuff. We all like originals...and freedom is great.

If you are walking past a venue and hear this sort of stuff being played...keep walking past that door and go to a club where you hear YOUR sort of music emanating.

    God's love.

  • Simplemente, genial....!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah no offense or anything, but it seems to me like they should change the name to Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino duo plus John Mayer. Not to put down Mr. Mayer in any way, but I'd rather see more of his backing band than him. In this context at least.

  • my mouth was hurted by that smack on the ground when i heared that drum tone for the first time :-|

  • steve jordan is so fucking cool, im sorry for the language, but hes just so fucking cool!

  • Check out Elvis' version.

  • that snare is.. is... SEX

  • @cubsfiredbaker what do you mean? examples

  • @cubsfiredbaker Totally agree! As a drummer that snare sends chills down my spine!

  • @ScopeV2 : that's weird because I was thinking how awful it sounds. It sounds like he's banging on a can. It's just a piccolo snare that wasn't mic'd that well. I'd easily take a fatter deeper snare anyday. But I'm a 60's / 70's guy, so of course I don't like the modern sound of a piccolo snare.

  • @freezazoid Depends on what you're listening to. If you listen to the drums on it's own or the whole picture. In the groove style of the song the snare is perfect. And that's what it's supposed to do. There is no "best" snare. But you gota appreciate one that is well tuned for the sound it should produce in a certain track.

  • @ScopeV2 : I don't know man... I can totally hear a great lower sounding "pop" in this song. The island-like reggae sound is annoying to me. It's more like a combination of and island sound mixed with the drummer from 311. It's almost distracting because it's more present than the rest of the drums. Through out the whole song you hear his snare popping on the 3 and 4... and it starts to get a little annoying. Different sounds I guess turn people on differently.

  • @freezazoid just to be clear man (and I have zero intentions of dissing you or starting a pointless argument) the snare hits on the downbeat and upbeat of 2 and the downbeat of 4. like I said no argument with your taste in music is dictating. just wanted to be clear on how you're counting. peace.

  • @PeterBaldwinRocks : To tell the truth I have no idea what you're talking about with "downbeat and upbeat of 2". he hits on the 3&4 during the first bar... and then hits only on the 3 during the next bar. In america that's how it would be counted. But maybe you're from another country. Just count the 1/4 notes. 1,2,THREE,FOUR, 12THREE4. The words I spell out are the snare hits. I'm not starting an argument either... you seem nice so sorry if I'm being a bit condescending.

  • @freezazoid : nevermind. I totally get what you're saying. I was just counting the song out in 1/4 notes instead of half-notes like you. It just depends on what you're calling a 1/4 note. I'm just saying I would count what you're calling 1/8 notes as quarter notes. Especially since the song is in swing time. If you slowed down the tempo a bit you'd hear 123-123-123-123 as the eighth notes. and the 1234 as the quarter notes.

  • @freezazoid Yea, these are simply counting differences. Either way we're hearing/saying the same thing. Dude, I'm liking Terraplane Sun a lot. Did I spell it right?

  • Comment removed

  • @PeterBaldwinRocks you both are correct the difference is just how you feel the beat. freezazoid is feeling the quarter notes and your feelin out the half. which i think is a easier way to count cuz your not going so fast you know? but either way its just counting.

  • @freezazoid Actually, that's incorrect. The snare Steve is playing is the Steve Jordan signature snare made by Yamaha. It's actually quite deep (13" x 6 1/2") is wood, and has wood hoops. The high-pitched sound you're referring to is a combination of Steve's famous rimshot backbeat and the snare'sa tuning. And it's actually miked perfectly against the bass drum, which only helps to make this groove feel so good!!!!

  • @17drumhead Either way... my point was that it sounds very hippy-rock/dave matthews band/more hippy rock. I grew up in northern michigan and maybe just got burnt out on that kind of snare sound. It's sooo jam band.

  • like two pieces of bread, you can put anything between them (i'm talking about the pocket, groove, etc)

  • there's that steve jordan pocket. so freakin deep and smooth.

  • good remake...never heard any Kayne West(on purpose) but i got Rays version on vinyl

  • this is a ray charles original not rick nelson or kanye west

  • Well, its not a Rick Nelson tune man, its Ray Charles.

  • i knew it was ray fisrt for sure. im only 22 so dont completely blame it on youth lol. Mayers trio is awesome. cant stand him otherwise. but this Shi* is kicken!

  • Wow, Gold Digger! I love this song. I thought Kanye West had written it!?

lmao. Chill people - like a few previous comments have said, it's sad that most people are ignorant enough not to even bother looking at the heritage of music, when it's staring them in the face. God bless Ray....

  • @02CBUCK well put

  • its sad, this is a ray charles song but anyone who listens to mainstream radio would think this is that ''gold digger'' song by Kanye West, the way it begins

  • Agree.

  • no actually every1 knows this a Ray song bc the music video and the film Ray

  • everyone? really? i find that hard to believe..I know at least 20 people who if they heard the beginning of that song they would assumer it was Kanye Wests ''golddigger''

  • hmmm i guess

  • now you guess? man that was a dumb thing to even say to begin with..making a broad generalization that everyone knows a song just because of a movie is a dopey thing to say. I've never seen Ray but ive heard of this song, just blew your theory to bits

  • @parkerlane13

I mean considering Ray is a widely known movie (Academy award winning to be exact) I'm sure majority knows this isn't originally Kanye's. Plus the sample used is obviously not Foxx's voice. I said "I guess" to end our convo, but some ppl love 2 keep their mouth open.

  • yeah some people love to keep their mouth open. Just like some people dont know when to keep their mouth shut in the first place

  • Have a blessed day sir/ma'am.

  • Great intro!!!

  • Love it!!!

  • gold digggerrrrrrrr

  • he does sound like SRV but he does not compare

  • he was influenced by him. :P

  • i agree, JM is much better

  • Why they can't they replace the shit on the radio with this!?! What a jam.

  • much agreed.

  • This is the jAMMM!!!!!!! Steve Jordan/ Mayer! Thats the ticket! Love this! Thanks for putting this one up!

  • @jsalas89: What about Pino man.. But ye right, it's so nice to hear Jordan play that 4/4 so groovy

  • "fuck yeah, yeah" haha

  • I love how musicians with great talent come together to make even better music..This is a side project but it could easily be better than all these other half ass bands now a days

  • i just realized that not only does his tone sound kinda like SRV but his voice sounds like a less mature SRV

  • John Mayer, he makes me fall in LOVE with every song he (and his group) performs, I wish I could meet a guy with as much soul he brings <3 <3

  • this is the best version ever

  • look up "I've got a woman UKE"

  • dude why does he always have the sickest tone ever

  • pretty sure its because he's got the same tech as SRV

  • everybody is always talkin about that John's sound is exactly the same as SRV's but I really don't agree. He's obviously very much inspired by SRV, in his tone and in his playing style, but for me he completely makes it his own and gives it a twist that is typically John Mayer. I really like all of the non-mainstream stuff he does and for me he is one of the greatest guitar players of our time and an absolute source of inspiration for my own playing style.

  • agreed

  • agreed. couldnt say it better

  • Yeah man for sure.. He has a heavy SRV inspiration but he also intertwines B.B.'s high end Major-Pentatonic phrases, a little of Clapton's picking styles (more so SRV) and even Albert King and Freddie you can hear them all in there.. but it's his tones that make him sound who he is and the mixture of his picking styles with his rhythm and melodies.. it's awesome how in depth he gets

  • Because he has money and we do not

  • @skatekid032 best damn pickups, best damn amp haha

  • @skatekid032 Because he's a tone whore and thats a great thing.

  • @skatekid032 because he plays a fender strat my good man! haa

  • @42littlebit - He does play a Fender for most of his work, but on this occasion and several others, I think you'll find he's using that Gibson Custom ES335. Check out his cover of Ain't No Sunshine at Madison Square Garden! Such a sweet sound!

  • @MrStoll25 I thought it was the 355, somewhat similar to the Lucille clones...?

  • O fuck yes! ray charles just rolled over in his grave to hide the bonner he just got hahah amazinf stuff right there awsome cover

  • the groove in this is amazing.

i like how it shows his infulences

  • Yeah, i love it how Steve Jordan is playing. he plays the same pattern over seven minutes and you can't stop listening!

    That's GROOOOOVE!!

  • Jordan just keeps in the pocket the whole time, it really makes the song.

  • groovy, man

  • I bet Ray Charles would have loved this. It sounds so good!

  • Comment removed

  • i love that awesome gradual build up that they do. Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino sound great even without John Mayer. But the three of them together is just perfect. Hopefully my trio will be half as good as them someday. haha

  • Steve Jordan plays so, like, kinda hard to explain... perfect? every hit sits perfectly, all in all sounds great.

  • this tune gets me going so bad!

  • know what you mean. It's like John says in Where the Light Is, people would just watch Steve on his own. The way he plays makes the simplest stuff so interesting.

  • he is a realy good musican he is really good and this trio blowes me away ! it is a relly good trio and really good when steve jordan dose it 2 ! <3

  • steve jordan KILLED it. in the best way possible.

  • The groove on this song is just plain funky. Steve Jordan is a phenomenal drummer and the perfect choice for John Mayer.

  • Steve Jordan provides the best groove he has ever done to this song! :b

    Simply, but hypnotic ... :S

  • You haven't seen steve jordan at his best till you've seen him with Clapton. I got the chance to go see him a couple years ago......... There are no words to describe it.

  • don't forget about the beacon theatre dvd he did with James Taylor...definite grooviness there!

  • Haven't seen it but I'll check it out

  • oh dude i hope you had a chance to check out the Beacon Theatre dvd....Steve puts the "oove" in "groove"

  • this is possibly the coolest cover ive ever heard

  • I got a woman, way over town!

  • fuckin right dmnhntr32 JM is one of the last guys out there with some damn good talent, Fuck geco24, he has no idea what hes talking bout, JM rules man

  • I LOVE IT!

I've been looking for a decent guitar cover of this to work off of.

God Bless You Ray Charles. God Bless You.

  • why don't you listen to the original elvis version then lol

  • Ray Charles did it first buddy.

  • haha i know that, I meant the original guitar version, sorry for the confusion.

  • Ray Charles did this first, ya idiot! Not G Love & Special Sauce.

  • dude, he's one of the only dude in the music indrustry who plays real music. Not that stupid Shit they put all over MTV.

  • Mayer has a lot of talent and I like a lot of his music. But, I like Derek Trucks too....man, he's awesome!

  • ray would have done this with the,m at least he isn't saying goldigger. their doing the damn thing

  • Please tell me 1falasha, why you are watching this video/listening to the song if he does indeed suck so bad? It just shows your ignorance.....

  • I think this is really a good job. Of course its funk, but so what. What's wrong funk. I think Ray would have loved this cover.

  • I like the bass on this one.

  • It's funk, Jazz, and Rock in one Jam. It's way too progressive to be JUST funk.

  • steve jordan can bring the funk

  • GREATLY done of course that is wat i expect from JM

  • Excellent cover

  • thats really good

  • I hate to say it, but it's not bad.

  • one of the best covers of all time!

  • oh my god!steve jordan!he is pure groove!

  • pure truth brother !!!

  • I may know nothing about drums, but Steve is for real my favorite drummer.

  • thanks for the vid! JM3 kills this song of course

  • you ever played a guitar 1falasha?

  • Grow the fuck up faggots and spend your time doing something constructive rather than putting people down.

  • If any of you douchebags knew a thing or two about playing guitar or music in general you'd lay the fuck off an appreciate music for what it is. Fact is it comes down to a very subjective level. John Mayer is not the legend that Hendrix is/was nor does he suck. Any comparison with Hendrix or SRV is really unfair. He is good at what he does and deserves a degree of respect for that and not to be slandered with the poison cowardliness and anonymity of youtube comments sections.

  • You're right, but you have to admit, Mayer IS pretty freakin good. And it's easy to hear that he is heavily influenced by Hendrix and SRV. And yet somehow he finds a way to make his music "pop". Only time will tell how important he is. For my part, I think he rocks!

  • Don't get me wrong I am a huge John Mayer and JM3 fan but I think all these comparisons that people make with the guys like Hendrix SRV Albert King BB King etc is dumb and most unproductive. This guy can kick a sweet groove and deserves credit for that. let me put it this way I hate haters!!! Man I come on youtube to check out vids of artists I like. Why would you watch a vid just to rag on the subject?

  • Agreed. It seems every vid these days turns into a pissing contest.

  • ok, gotcha!

  • so why are you even watching it if you think its so rubbish?

  • you fucking suck saying john mayer sucks you probably like fagots like slipknot who have no talent what so ever they just play a shit load of notes fast you suck fucking horse cock and swallow his cum if you say john mayer sucks your a total fagg

  • how about you play guitar as good as that and sing and write song as good as he does......than come back and say its hype FAG

  • what do you mean? How is this crap?

  • Yea, this was Ray Charles, Mayer does a cool job of covering it, very different funk based beat.

  • hes cool!

  • Who originally sings this?

    great john cover.

    once again.

  • Ray Charles.
