One of my favourite U2 songs, hidden away on Rattle and Hum. Don't think they've ever performed it live. Absolute bliss. The way it takes off at 1:40...
I've literally had this song on repeat on Windows Media Player for the past eight hours, and I am STILL not tired of it. It is an excellent song, and probably the most underrated song and most unheard song by U2.
you know this is u2 at the very best absolutely adore this song but i really am very annoyed that bono turned out to be such a cock it really annoys me
I remember this song so much, I made a mix tape with this on for my girlfriend, ( now my wife of 20 yrs ), and played it over and over. Eighties U2 when they were at their absolute best b4 everyone decided they all had to save the planet an sell out!!
U2 in their prime, jesus, they were second to none. Incredible vocal, stunning guitar, always were the ones to beat. Maybe they should have stopped a few years ago to keep the purity of what they achieved but who knows.....
uh.....ok maybe the more recent lp's aren't on par w/ war, unforgettable fire etc, but they all have great songs. heck that 'moment of surrender' song is incredible from the new record....
However although some of their most recent stuff is not at the level of their 80's and early 90's, I still enjoy songs like Stay (Faraway, So Close) or even Walk On.
I also enjoyed lots No Line on The Horizon. Again, no comparison, two completely different bands but still rocking music.
@whelanttt I take it you have not really heard much U2 since then? They are still top of there game and i think there best work is still to come. They blow me away with every album and when i see them live i always walk away in awe. That is just my thoughts everybody has there own i suppose. :)
@whelanttt they are like the best wine in the world best at the beginning but growing even beyond comparason with the years thank god if there ever was one for giving us these angel like inspired artists. everytime you think theyre tired of it they come back and blow me away again. i feel proud and blessed i saw them twice already in concert . they are sooooo much even better live than on record. proof of theyre true geniality the more you study them the better they get what messages...
THis song should be all over the air waves!!!!!!! It is simply spell-binding!!! Magic! To me, if you want a song to take you to a place and actually make you want to live in it, this is it!
haha!! funny, i went right to this one from the inxs video!!!! this is one of my top 10 favorite u2 songs. it's beautiful.
i hear they kept the actual tree used on the album a secret... wanting to keep people from getting to it... i heard that on a documentary. but it wouldn't surprize me if it was somehow gone..
I used to play "Where the Streets Have No Name" as I drove to grad school in the 1980s. The main guitar riff would kick in about the time I got on the highway. U2's songs, whether set in Ireland, America, or someplace else, are about the journey, the quest, the desire for adventure and meaning. They are consistent with Irish legends, Christian and pre-Christian.
No, probably not about Ireland. Perhaps about the end of a love affair and new sights (if not insights ~ Ha! do we ever learn?) and sounds searing their way into consciousness from the stunning backdrop of Arizona ~ a kind of road movie experience ~ whatever ~ I think it's a powerful song by Bono and beautifully sung too.
definitely a song about America, but whats great about music is you can make it what ever you want. This is one powerful song. If you ever have the opportunity to drive across the United States be sure to have U2 Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum and Achtung Baby for good measure. And be sure to stop pull over get out and take in a moment with this beautiful land.
Ok guys, if you think this song has to do with Ireland, then you're not understanding the lyrics.
T
his is clearly a song about America. If you live in America and listen to the lyrics, you'll see why immediately. The references to highway 66, dry deserts, Mississippi,Death Valley (California), and even the title itself (Heartland) are things that clearly describe the US. Last time I checked, there was no Mississippi, Death Valley, dry deserts, or HW 66 in Ireland.
pues si, el estilo es el clasico de U2, el que se desarrolla del 84 al 87. los mejores temas son de esa epoca. las caras B son excelentes. heartland es un tema que encaja perfectamente en ese periodo.
Oh yeah right...they're talking about Ireland!!! Call yourselves U2 fans...Go and listen to the lyrics..they are obviously talking about the USA. I dont think soooooooo Get a Life
Agreed, this has been one of my favourite R&H song. Everytime i listen to it i've got tears in my eyes and feel completely melancholic - no other song manages this after such a long time.
