He struggled with her issues and tried to help her ( I was carrying you) until he drank too much to escape the hardships they shared, made a giant mistake(tripped and fallen) by cheating on her , and they both came crashing down. Without his support she fell as well and everything he'd helped her with, everything they went through, was wasted.
