  • Many thanks this uploading this. . . Wonderful !

  • Actually 130-150 years from now

  • Still,looks like a great series.I have to read the books first.Cheers!

  • Bucharest is shown above as a Mitteleuropa city, with centuries-old medieval buildings, when it actually had no buildings older than 130-150 years(in 1939).But I still can't figure out where it was shot.Perhaps, a film remake could prove more authentic

  • @gfdgdf535 It is Ljubljana, Slovenia.

  • Only that's not Bucharest.I wondered for quite some time, since I first heard that they made it into a TV series, how exactly interwar Romania was portrayed.I'm a bit dissapointed, they could've at least used some archive footage(I think British Pathe has some);then again, the odds of actually shooting in the hellhole that was Romania during the 1980's seemed imnpossible.

  • This is an absolutely outstanding series!! Not only is it well-written and adapted for the screen, but it also features Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson (whom I LOVE). Thanks so much for posting the series!!!

  • I've heard the opening title tune live before in Hungary. Anybody know it's true origin/name?

  • @doughnut33 The melody is named "Barbu lautaru" /watch?v=nZp5gnAZvgw

  • @AlexTD86 It sounds like Mugur, mugurel to me /watch?v=7EHoHwYaZAc&feature=related

I am not a musician, so I am just wondering

  • forgot to mention - I love Prince Yakimov, too. Ronald Pickup did a fantastic job of the role. You want to dislike him at first but then you grow to like him, even though he is pretty dumb and wreckless. He's like a naive child, yet very endearing.

  • Absolutely love this miniseries. I own it on tape and DVD; won't part with either, just in case I need the backup. It's a major dose of Ken and Emma in their early days. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • I' was wrong, only after world war 2 did Roumania fall into Soviet influence and and join the Warsaw Pact.

  • wow! I forgot that at this time Rommania was Communist

  • Poss my favourite period drama ever. Prince Yakimov is my hero!

  • hehe how brilliant you are for uploading this!!!

  • it is going to take a while, stay tuned!
