I'd been looking for this TV MIini Series for a long time. I loved it and it is on my top favorite list. Thank you so much for sharing this marvelous film with us
Bucharest is shown above as a Mitteleuropa city, with centuries-old medieval buildings, when it actually had no buildings older than 130-150 years(in 1939).But I still can't figure out where it was shot.Perhaps, a film remake could prove more authentic
Only that's not Bucharest.I wondered for quite some time, since I first heard that they made it into a TV series, how exactly interwar Romania was portrayed.I'm a bit dissapointed, they could've at least used some archive footage(I think British Pathe has some);then again, the odds of actually shooting in the hellhole that was Romania during the 1980's seemed imnpossible.
This is an absolutely outstanding series!! Not only is it well-written and adapted for the screen, but it also features Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson (whom I LOVE). Thanks so much for posting the series!!!
forgot to mention - I love Prince Yakimov, too. Ronald Pickup did a fantastic job of the role. You want to dislike him at first but then you grow to like him, even though he is pretty dumb and wreckless. He's like a naive child, yet very endearing.
Absolutely love this miniseries. I own it on tape and DVD; won't part with either, just in case I need the backup. It's a major dose of Ken and Emma in their early days. Thanks so much for posting it.
These novels still follow me.
